just curious, this week I was diagnosed in being deficient in
iron I was just curious, this week I was diagnosed in being
deficient in iron and I would have hoped that this diagnosis
would have occurred maybe a few months ago when I saw my
general practitioner but it actually took a hematologist to
discover that. While my running has been at around 40-50 miles
a week has been going very well, supposedly I should have been
fatigued at times, and although I don't want to admit it that
has been the case(ever so faintly). My question is, as I begin
some iron supplementation this week and with my goal time at
the LA marathon being 3 hours and only 4 weeks away doesn't it
take a few months for me to get back to normal with iron
replenishment or will these iron pills that I'm starting to
take this week give me some hidden motivation? (encouragement)
sooner then I think. Curious what your thoughts are,
everything is going just great and I will still be doing my
last 20 mile two weeks before the marathon. Thank you in
advance for any input to this challenge??

Yes, it takes awhile to get the ferritin (iron storage} level
back into a normal range. Try to find albion chelated iron.

If you go to the albionlabs website (do a google search for
albionlabs) you will find a list of the supplement compnaies
that carry their chelates.

The iron chelate is going to give over 50% absorption and
greatly shorten the time needed to get your iron up to where
it should be.

It's rare for men to have iron deficiency but iron is lost in
sweat. Men are usually told not to use an iron supplement but
if there is blood loss, men can develop iron deficiency. The
other situation is regular loss of large amounts of sweat.
Good luck in the LA marathon.

Steve, I assume you saw the hematologist. You were the guy
with the borderline low platelet count also, correct? What did
the hematologist say regarding your subnormal platelet count?
