hey I'm up for the challenge!
I've always had some weight to lose because of my emotional attachment to food. Recently I've been trying to look at food as my body's friend/nourishment/ etc. It's sorta helping!
I'd love to do this with you! You can email me at monika~planet-save.com or IM me , Trilibites (my aim name).
You can definitely do it. I know this way of eating takes a while to get used to. I've tried induction like for the 6th time now, and I think I will actually stick to it. I'm on day 3 now- but I'm eating macadamia nuts and whole milk yogurt - nuts for the fiber and for the convenience, easy to eat at work and quick. whole milk yogurt cuz i need the variety!
keep in touch. i'll check back here later today and tomorrow if you want to stay in touch through the message board.!

stay strong!

I'd love to be a part of a summer challenge...I'm part way to my goal weight(about 25% there) but I'd love to go back in the fall looking fabulous and being close to my goal weight!

So how does this challenge thing work??

monika
Wed, Apr-24-02, 20:37
I don't know how exactly we're going to work this, but just talking and helping each other out sounds good to me!
Congrats on being 25% of the way there!
How's it been for you?
I have horrible sugar cravings- mostly because I've grown up always having sweets!!! I keep telling myself that they are not healthy and useless, but it's not helping me!
I've been going somewhat strong for the past 4 days, without having eaten anything *illegal*, but I did have an LC bar today. I would like to not eat those or use splenda, and I'm trying to slowly get to that goal. =)
I wish I had a little bit of a busier life, but I'm home from school this semester and home is totally boring, and I don't have any money, so I can't really do anything- I started working so that will keep me a little busier, but other than that I am really sick of reading books all day and watching tv or being at the comp.
HOpe all is going well!,

Thanks, it feels good to be losing the weight, and even better now that people are starting to notice and comment about it!

It hasn't been too bad, I sometimes get frustrated and just want to give up, mostly because I'm lazy and the fast things to cook are the highest in carbs but I'm dealing with it. I find the whole water thing hard to do, 2 Litres seems to be an ocean some days. But overall it hasn't been too bad. I'm home from school now so its more of a challenge, at school if I didn't want to be tempted by things, I just didn't buy them, but here, I've got to deal with the temptation of all the stuff my parents have in the kitchen too!

I can't wait to start working, so I can just pack my lunch and not be tempted by whats in the house! Step one for that is to find a job! Hopefully that'll happen soon.

Anyway good luck to all!

I hear you! I have the same problem- being tempted by what's around the house. I started working last week so hopefully now it will be a little easier. But I work at a convenience store, and most of the time people are buying so many damn sweets and coffee! Both of which I am trying so very hard not have!
I decided that tomorrow i'm going to go hardcore induction style, to see if it's really possible to get rid of the sugar cravings. This is day 5 for me and I'm letting myself break into this slowly because I really want to stick with it!
Stay strong!!!! You can do it !!! Tuna is really quick and doesnt require cooking and eggs are pretty easy too!
What do you eat most of the time?

I eat eggs for breakfast/lunch most of the time, sometimes I eat meat instead of eggs for my protein, there are some days when neither seems appetizing though...I eat celery or cucumbers with most of my meals, or salad, but I've never been a big salad person so its cut up veggies most of the time.

I think I miss the motion of snacking more than the snacks! The motion of eating chips or something...thats probably one of my bigger battles actually.

Tonight I had a bit of a cheat actually, I had a few chips at my friend's house...and again, it wasn't the taste of the chips, it was missing being able to snack like that...hopefully that cheat won't through me off track too much.

dont worry, i dont htink it will. i know- i miss snacking on skittles. those are my vice. or coffee and laffy taffy. ive just been hooked on sweets my whole life!

well i wasnt exactly able to stick to induction today, i hate prob too much cheese, some nuts, and whole milk yogurt. all are lc but still!

stay strong. i feel that once we're feeling healthy and looking great, snacking wont be such an important thing to have in our life. and even later on, when we have lost the weight, we'll know we can have some snacks if we truly want to- but maybe we'll be so happy with how we are feeling/looking that we wont even be tempted to snack on unhealthier things.=) thats what i keep tellign myself at least=)

2 days without any fake sugar type of stuff for me!
and have over eaten too badly! ate an excess of cheese but not as bad as i usually do!
I know... i have the same problem, nothing seems to be appetizing anymore. that is really bothering me. im thinking its just mental?
tomorrow im going to go for some variety. illl get a doublecheeseburger somewhere and ill try to come up with some other things. im so sick of meat. i never really liked it in the first place. im hope that it will become an acquired taste=) anything is possible!

I used to LOVE meat but I am so tired of eggs and meat...and now I'm not craving carbs much either, so food has kind of lost its appeal to me overall(which is kind of sad, but kind of good too)

Tomorrow I'm going back to school for a couple of days to do my last exams, so I'll be able to use the scale at the school so I'm kind of excited about that because its the one I've been using so I consider its numbers to be the "real" numbers.

I'm tired today(not related to dieting I don't think) I just thought I'd share :D

Anyway I gotta run, so much to do, so little time!

Good Luck & God Bless

I cheated BIG TIME the last couple of days. I went back to school on Sunday and made it through Sunday okay(I think I had a couple chocolate eggs though) and then Monday I was okay, I didn't drink all the water I should have, and then Monday night I had junk food and I had alcohol and today I had carbs at all my meals, and ice cream at the movie I went to tonight...My tummy feels bloated and yucky now...I can't beleive I did that! I'd been doing sooo well! I'm REALLY mad at myself

monika
Thu, May-02-02, 19:29
I cheated REALLY bad on monday. so bad! SOO bad. but i sorta learned something from it. i dont really miss those foods too much anymore. it took me about 2 months of attempting atkins and giving up to realize it.
sometimes i feel like, oh i want to cheat. then i think about what i want- and i cant think of anything. like yeah i could have some sweets but then afterwards ill just be pissed that i gave up, so why bother?
thats what ive been telling myself!
so now its day 3 of induction for me, and it's not so bad! the only problem i have is that i feel like i dont enjoy food anymore- but i dont think that's the diet's fault. i try to get myself psyched up for meals, and that works sometimes and i feel good about this wol. im like, Look! hey! i get to eat these awesome meals and lose weight! yay! but the problem is most of the times my meals dont come out tasting too awesome! i absolutely hate cooking!
ive been having eggs for breakfast, and im pretty sick of them. ill make an omelet tomorrow, maybe ill enjoy that a little more.
i love cheeseburgers. that meal i can always enjoy. maybe ill just eat those all the time? hehehe.
good luck! stay strong! remember to treat your body well and you will be healthy and lose weight!

Hey...I'm super stressed and REALLY want to cheat(I just sorta did, I had about 3 mouthfuls of macaroni salad but I don't count that only because I don't want to  ) Anyway I'm stressed about trying to find a job in a small town and about life in general...I'm trying soo hard not to give into the chocolate cravings because right now the only thing I am happy about is the weight loss, so I'm trying really hard to not cheat.

I also am really tired of eggs. My mom found some frozen turkey in the freezer, so I've been eating that lately, with just a little mayo and some salt and pepper, and its pretty good...

I just wanna be thinner! I'm glad that this whole CAD thing is working for me.

monika
Sat, May-04-02, 18:14
YAY ! im so glad its working for you!

i was sick of eggs.. and now .. all of a sudden.... i really like them! and meat too ! this is so weird for me!
i admit, i wouldnt mind having some chocolate- BUT IT CAN WAIT. NO RUSH. !
it does get easier! i hope it's getting easier for you too.

I sort of cheated tonight, I had more carbs in my Reward meal than I should have, but I drank so much extra water I'm hoping that will counteract the extra bit of carbs. My mom made a turkey tonight for dinner and I LOVE turkey and stuffing, so that was my bit of a cheat, but I don't feel bad tonight :)

coolcool ! dont feel too bad! try to stay committed tho! I dont know how CAD works exactly, didnt know you couldhave a reward meal. interesting!

im doing well. im on induction of atkins but i eat strawberries once in a while and nuts too. i was going without them but the constipation is so bad!!=( ive been taking psyllium husks but that doesnt seem tohelp=/ gonna go read up on the site about this problem~

i feel pretty good. i dont have any sugar cravings, but i miss enjoying sugar. unfortunately that makes me think this wont last too long! but at least to the end ofthis month or more!!=)

I think half of my cravings are mental, not physical...I enjoy the freedom of making carby things for lunch, but when Ihave them, I don't enjoy them nearly as much as I imagined.

CAD means you have no carbs at breakfast and lunch and then you have a "reward meal" at dinner, that means 1/3 carbs, 1/3 veggies and 1/3 protein...I think mentally it helps me to know that if I really want something I can have it as part of my reward meal. Maybe it would be good to switch to if Atkins is to strict for you, that way you could have some carbs and not feel guilty because the plan works to allow that, and it works better BECAUSE of it. Just another note about CAD, I haven't had any constipation problems...

My sister started CAD yesterday, and is hopeful about it. She's got about 30lbs to lose I think, so she's in a much better position than me(I still have about 60-65lbs to lose) Hopefully it works for her because she's pretty self consious about her body and I think it would do her self esteem a lot of good.

monika
Tue, May-07-02, 13:19
hey, thanks for the info. i'll look into it.
other than a few issues with atkins, i feel pretty good about it. but i will definitely read about CAD now. it sounds interesting!

yup the cravings are mostly mental for me too. i hear that. like wanting to watch a movie and munch on candy, but i sat through spiderman with my bottle of water and i didnt get too upset. even went to work (at a convenience store) with dots and all these other favs of mine and survived! hahaha! if i got through this weekend, i really cant mess up now! i dont really want to stray either! going for the SUMMER CHALLENGE!!!!!
in a month im going back to school, well actually in like 18 days or so. the 23rd. it will be harder for me to stick tomy plan then, because ill be living witha friend for a week or so before i move in to my apt (june1). hopefully i wont have a problem=) ill buy tuna (even tho i dont like it too much) and other stuff when i get there. i feel kinda bad having to make my food such a big deal- the person im staying with always bugs me because i eat "so healthy". so itll be rough. thats a bigger challenge for me now than avoiding the sweets!!
especially if his parents cook dinner! oh boy! well, ill just do my best and opt for the lowest carb things. i actually thinking im allergic to wheat And my body just doesnt digest it, so i have an honest excuse for that!!=)
well ill stop going on and on! keep me posted with how you are doing! what do you eat as your reward meals?
~monika

I love that I can have reward meals...I eat "normal meals" Tonight I had roast beef(protein), a roasted potato(carb) and a big bowl of salad(veggie) and then a bit of chocolate for desert! At first when I started CAD, the reward meal (RM) was what I lived for, but after a couple of weeks I had broken my food addiction, and my carb addiction so I now its not such a big deal. I definetly don't have anywhere near the food issues I used to!

I was talking to my mom & sister today and saying that there really aren't times I'm tempted much anymore, about the only time in the last 6 weeks or so is when my family went to Wendy's restaurant for lunch and I LOVE Wendy's but I ordered a salad even though I wanted to cheat SOOOOO bad. Anyway I really enjoyed the salad (The Chicken BLT salad) but I had to have it without the dressing because the dressing that came with it had like 29g of carbs in it! No way! I really enjoyed it by itself because it had cheese and bacon in with the veggies.

Hey, I'm so glad that someone else joined this challenge, I don't think anyone was really checking the posts here anymore, except me!

I know what the freshman pounds are like. I've always been a big girl, I was about 200lbs when I went away to university 2 years ago, and I went on Depo Provera(the birth control shot) and it caused me to gain about 50lbs and no matter what I did I couldn't lose weight. I went off it last June and joined a gym last summer and even with working out like 4 times a week, I wasn't losing ANYTHING because the drug hadn't totally left my system.

Anyway, thats great that you quite smoking too!

Well, welcome to the group and hopefully we'll all be looking Fab this summer!

Wendy's can be had for a no/low carb diet, you just ogtta know what to do. I had this for lunch almost everyday while working this summer: 2 Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers WO/tomato - eat it without the bread. It is all good. Not sure if it was the absolute smartest thing I have done, but hey, I don't argue with results. :)

Ivory
Wed, May-29-02, 22:48
I also had the Chicken BLT salad and I just didn't use the dressing or eat the tomatoes, and it was sooooooooo good.

I try not to eat out very much because it is expensive and when I get a burger and throw away the bun .. its like there goes 1/2 of what I paid for.. :daze: .. I have found that I like Wings and Chili and you can bring the chili anywhere you go and just microwave it .. Total it has 10 grams.. but I can eat off of it at least 4 times so that does not come out to much per meal  ... The other times I did this diet it was just a bunch of chicken and pork , but since I have found out how good and easy this chili and wings are .. I will probably have them a few times a week :yum:

Ivory
Thu, May-30-02, 22:26
I don't eat out much either, sometimes at dinner. Being a CADer, I can have a meal which has carbs. So I can have some restaurant foods.

Mostly I eat burgers or hotdogs on my George Foreman Grill, and salad. I went through a celery phase, and a cucumber phase, and now both just don't seem appetizing. Right now I'm into romaine lettuce. Sometimes I wish there was more kinds of veggies!

I AM SO TIRED OF EGGS! I dont' even want to look at another egg(unless its deviled, then its yummy still). I guess I should find new ways to make them, maybe I'll figure out how to poach an egg.

Fri, May-31-02, 12:13
I know .. I am more than tired of bacon  Well I am gonna go out to the pool today .. so I am gonna have to be forced to look at my SUPER skinny friends.. I am gonna drink some beer today ... A prof of mine did this and he drank beer every week and he lost 80 pounds .. he said it was OK b/c your body burns the alcohol first and then you are back into ketosis the next morning :p .. Lost another 2 pounds ..
Have a great weekend

Fri, May-31-02, 12:32
I'm not tired of bacon because I don't have it often, but its always been something that I can only eat when I crave it.

I'm going to Toronto tomorrow to see a friend, she's my room mate at school and she has been such a positive force in my weight loss. She's about 150 and around 5foot7, so she's right around her ideal weight, and she's beautiful(we're talking blond, blue eyes and a gorgeous smile) but unlike most of my 'skinny' friends she makes sure to tell me how good I look and makes me feel beautiful too. I think that I might have given up quite a while ago if it wasn't for her. Anyway NONE of that was the point of my story. I am going to Toronto and she hasn't seen me since I was at 235 and I'm 220 now, so I'm looking forward to showing her my progress. As well, I too will be drinking tomorrow, but I think I'm going to buy some vodka and diet 7-up so that at least my body only has the alcohol to worry about, not sugar too.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the pool! I'm jealous, I'm really hot at the moment(just got back from a workout so I'm sweating big time)

aggieamy
Fri, May-31-02, 13:56
yep I am 5'7 1/2 and blonde hair and blue eyes also :) .. but I am not happy at 150 .. I probably should be ... All my friends tell me how beautiful I am too but just for me I wanna be TINY again .. something you might want to try if you like Vodka is abslout mandrin and diet 7-up .. it's not like those sweet smirnoff ones it 80 proof and has no carbs .. and when you mix it with diet 7up or sprite it tastes like one of those orange sodas YUM... Vodka makes me sick so I am not gonna drink that
HAve Fun

Ivory
Fri, May-31-02, 16:04
Thanks, I'll look for that vodka brand. It helps to find out the little things like that. I can drink vodka but don't give me wine...I love white wine but BAD things happen when I drink wine.

My friend used to figure skate so she is really muscular. She had a coach who insisted that they be fit and built all over their bodies(not just legs) so she's pretty muscular.

Have a good weekend

Well I went out last night .. I had a good time but it was hard to watch people eat crackers and stuff.... I was like I need to go home and eat something  .. Well my 13 year old little sister is coming to visit me for a couple days and I know that I am gonna have to cheat when she is here because I can't cook her something and then not be able to eat it .. Oh well .. I hope your visit with your friend was fun

I had a good time this weekend, for the most part. I got lost driving to my friend's place and it took me an extra hour to get there. Then we went to her friend's place and were drinking, after we walked home we went to bed and I had to get up 4 times to vomit! I hardly drank anything last night and I threw up so much. I won't be drinking like that again. Ever since I started LCing I just can't handle my alcohol, so I'm just gonna have to stop drinking at all because I don't like getting sick. It was even worse because it was someone else's house and I cleaned up as best I could, but I was still pretty tipsy and didn't do a perfect job. :(

aggieamy
Sun, Jun-02-02, 19:07
Yuck I know how that feels.. that is why I was telling you that I don't drink vodka.. Welll I hope that you feel better now. My mom called me and told me my sister is ready to come here from my grandparents house.. I wasn't expecting her for at least another week .. I figured I was gonna have to cheat for a couple days but now she is gonna be here for 2 weeks .. I am not sure what to do .. I think I will just try to eat healthier and still not have any sweets .. and try to keep working out .. well the pool wasn't as bad as I thought it would be .. All of frined tell me that I look great .. But I dont believe them.. they have to say that.. heres a pic taken not that long ago .. actually I was 5 pounds heavier here ..

I went and bought some new capri pants today. I had been wearing a size 20 and the ones I bought today were a size 16! I was pretty happy BUT when I tried on 16's at other stores they didn't fit at all :( I hate how sizes aren't uniform everywhere.

I just hope when I'm done losing that I'm about a size 10 or 12.

I measured myself today to see if I'd lost inches. I was pleasantly surprised. I did the measurments originally at the beginning of May, so this month I lost:
Bust: 3"
Waist: 4"
Tummy(across belly button): 2"
Hips stayed the same :( :(
Thigh: .75"

aggieamy
Sun, Jun-02-02, 21:14
I defintely dont want to loose any in my bust
:cheer: :cheer: for you on loosing more inches!!!!

Sometimes I think that this diet might not work so well for me b/c I am not overweight .. b/c at 5'7 and 150 I am about average and I am a size 10 .. but I am just not happy. I probably would be if I had been this size all of my life but like I said earlier I was a size 4 so .. Oh well I havent cheated.. what do you think I should do about my sister's visit.. she is 13 and a size 16 .. she could use a diet too . but I cant put all protien and fat in her for two weeks and then have her go home and eat normally.. I sometimes think maybe I should just waatch my calories and continue working out because the skiniest I was I ate what ever I wanted.. I also played soccer everyday though.. Anyways have a good week!!! And I hope that you loose more :p How do you think I look .. am I just being silly trying to loose weight ? Or should I be happy where I am .. and just deal with the fact that age made me gain some weight?

Ivory
Sun, Jun-02-02, 22:09
Lol I don't mind losing SOME bust right now, but I'm still hoping to have quite a bit left at the end. Also, I take into consideration that in order to measure my bust, that takes into account my back as well, so I'm losing it there as much as in my bust.

I think that if you make it interesting enough you can get away without cheating MUCH over your sister's visit. Do stuff like wings and chili(which you've said you like) and just offer her something else with it that you might not eat. I know a lot of people on these forums are a lot more strict than I am with myself. I'm just not that way by nature, I'm pretty good and I don't cheat a lot, BUT I also believe that we all have to live and I think its better for you to cheat a bit & enjoy your time with your sister than to not cheat but have to be stressed all the time about food etc.

I think you look good, but I also am coming from a FAR different place than you are(I've Always been big, so being a size 10) I think that you should look at yourself and how realistic your goals are, maybe even talk to your doctor. If you're not happy with your body then I say do what it takes to be happy, I would just be sure that your goals are realistic for your body.

Hi girls! I saw this thread and I would love to join a summer challenge. I am also in college. I am a senior at UNLV and also graduate in December. You are exactly 1 day older than me aggieamy!! To be quite honest you look great but if I thought I could be a size 4 I'd try too. I think the smallest I have ever been was a size 7 and that was about 8 years ago. I just don't want to be fat when I graduate. I have these pictures from when I graduated high school and I looked pretty good. My goal is to look better than I have ever looked before. I think 137 is probably the smallest I could realistically be considering how much muscle I have (and am still gaining.) I want to have a flat stomach for once in my life. It is so hard being overweight at a young age (especialy in school) because it is just not as acceptable. I was a size 16-18 at my heaviest and just tried on a pair of 10s from high school and they fit!! Yay!! I don't look like any 10 that you're wearing though, aggiemay. It looks like you have got some nice skinny legs. My ultimate goal!!!

Congrats on your new pants Ivory! It feels good to see results. Keep it up you guys!! See you around!!

Hey I graduate from Texas A & M in December .. :) I love Vegas .. we will be there in August ... I dont really have too much money. But we are gonna be in Phoenix in August visiting my parents so We figured ,hey we are only about 4 hours away :daze: Well I still get complemented all of the time and I still get hit on but.. Yep I look at pictures from when I graduated.. I'll post some of those later when I can .. And some people are like wow that doesn't even look like you . I'm like ummm hello I havent gained that MUCH ~~~~my least I weighed was 115 but I tried to gain weight when I was that skinny ... 125 was what I was happy at.. but looking at pictures when I was 130-135 it really isnt that much of a differnce .. I was stilll in a 6 .. so that is my realistic goal :).... SOOOO happy for you that you are wearing a 10 now :cheer:
I think I will have to cheat when my sister is here b/c she doesn't really like stuff like that oh well it willl be for proably less that a week .. and I am gonna work out.. I need to try to get my sister work out too .. all she likes to do is play on the computer and when I was her age , I played soccer, swam and speed skated I was doing something athletic at least once a day...
:daze: If I could only get my lazy butt up and be that active again
Ya'll have a great day

I've never been to Vegas, someday I'm sure I'll go. I am going to England for a week next spring. My best friend will be there for a year, so I'm gonna go on my spring break. It should be fun, I want to be a hottie before then!

I'm also looking forward to this Christmas when I'll be going to the formal for my program at school, it'll be great to buy a new fancy dress!

There's been talk about goals etc and I don't think I've ever explained where my goals come from. My first major goal is 184lbs. I had a body fat test(ecocardiogram) done last year and it said for me to have 25% BF I had to be 184, so thats my first goal, to be in the healthy BF range. After that it'll be more loss, and some fine tuning. I'm hoping to be a size 10 at the end of all this. I said something to my mom the other day and she said something to the effect that she didn't see how I could be a size 10...I was kind of hurt :(

aggieamy
Mon, Jun-03-02, 16:12
Well what size is your mom ? don't listen to anyone ... unless they are complimenting you :p I know .. my mom is like you will never be that tiny again .. I am like ok maybe not, but I am gonna try.. sadly I think deiting is one of the main things that my mom supports me on .. even though I am not really big .. I am average but I think she just thinks of how "perfect" I was for a while.. Damn the ankle surgery ... What kind of exercie and stuff do you do ?? what is like your typical day of food like on CAD b/c I am considering trying that. I wish tere was a way to be skinny before I have to walk areound schiltterbahn next week in a baithing suit when we take my little sister there ... I mean I still wear bikinis but I know I dont look as good in them as I use to .. Vegas Rocks you should try to go there sometime ..

My mom is pretty thin, about a size 6 I think. I guess she was just remembering what she weighed when she wore a size 10, which is a lot less than my goal weight, but I am not as "big" as my weight would suggest. I am wearing about a 16 right now, and so is my sister, who is 45lbs lighter than I am, so I think once I get down to my goal weight(around 150-160) that a size 10 is reasonable to expect.

I power walk for about 30-45min and then do weights 4 times a week(a different muscle group each day) and abs are every day. Okay I should qualify this with that being the plan, I don't always follow. I did NOTHING today. I am in such a bitchy mood today, its that time of the month and I have a headache and I just wanted to be left alone with a bag of chips and a chocolate bar all day! BUT I didn't cheat today, I didn't get all my water down, but I didn't cheat.

On CAD I have low carb stuff for breakfast & lunch(1/2 protein, 1/2 veggies) and then at dinner(my reward meal) I have 1/3 protein, 1/3 veggies and 1/3 carbs. This is great because I can get a chocolate fix if I need one as long as its at dinner.

I am hoping that I will decent in a bikini by next summer. I'm gonna work my ass off(literally) and get toned and stuff by next summer so that I look fabulous!

yep well I had been doing an hour of cadio evryday and an hour of weights , but since I am not taking summer school I dont have access to the gym and I cant afford to pay for one.. so I have some weights and a bench at home and I just ordered a pilates tape so I am excited to start doing that when I get it.. My sister is gonna be here on thursday and is leaving nextfriday . I think we are gonna try to just cheat a couple times.. we are taking her to a water park and I doubt there is anything low carb that we can eat there ... I normally wake up around 10 ,have bacon and eggs or saugage and eggs .. And then for dinner we have steaks, chicken. spinach, chili, wings.. I just made some heavy whipped cream and put a package of sugar free jello in it.. It was go good... I am gonna try to walk today and lift weights .. This diet has been so much easlier this time around because I havent had to beon campus and watch everyone else eat whatever they want.. my boyfriend and I live together so we are in our own little diet and workout world..
Have a great day

Ug! I wanted to go for a power walk today and its raining, and cold so its not making me want to go outside! I will do some warm up though and still do my weight stuff. My brother has the bench and weights, so I use that. I can't afford to join a gym either. You'll have to let me know how the pilates tapes are, I have been hearing a lot about pilates and may buy the tapes myself at the end of the summer.

I put on some of my old jeans today and they did right up! yay!

Being at home is making it easier for me too. I don't have the same schedule as anyone here so I eat on my own most of the time, except dinner which is my reward meal, so that doesn't matter.

Anyway I'm gonna go find some food for dinner, have a good day!

man I wish it was cold , It s like 98 degrees here. I got my pilates tape today ... That was by far the fastest I have ever gotten anything that I ordered on the internet. I am gonna do it soon , I am about to take a week off b/c my sis will be here but I am gonna do my pilates tape... I still have the rest of the summer , one week wont make too much of a difference I have spent the day cleaning and doing laundry YUCK. I have company coming tommorrow night to go out so I need my house to be clean .. I think that I might want o try to start that diet that you are doing.. how long have you been doing it , and how much weight have you lost ?

Tue, Jun-04-02, 19:36
I have been doing the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet since Feb 26 this year(so a little over 3 months) and I've lost 30lbs, and 2 clothing sizes. That is without exercising much at all. I'm starting to now because I'm feeling better and have more energy and the weather is better(relative to the winter).

I didn't do anything today exercise-wise BUT I did get 3 chapters done of my stupid correspondence course! I have to take this course to try and get caught up so I can graduate on time...I dropped a couple courses along the way and if I want my degree on time, I have to catch up somehow.

98 degrees sounds nice to me, it was nice and warm the last few days but today was cold and not nice. It rained for most of the afternoon too. Today was a jeans & sweatshirt kind of day. This spring has sucked weather-wise, it's been windy and cool and wet. I just want sunshine!

aggieamy
Tue, Jun-04-02, 23:03
well thats good that you got some school work done, when are you supposed to graduate ? well the first pilates tape that I did was pretty cool , my back has been hurting for a few weeks now and it really didnt make that feel very good. :( OH well I am gonna do the long one tommorow. I wish that I would have lost some noticable weight so that I could be insperational to my little sister so she will try to loose some, she needs it way more than me. Of course my boyfriend has already lost 10 pounds and looks better  .. hopefully he wont leave me for someone skinnier .. haha.. he didn't have much to loose ..he is just trying to encouage me by doing it with me ..

Ivory
Tue, Jun-04-02, 23:14
I'm supposed to graduate June 2004, but first year I dropped linear algebra and had to take it second year, then I couldn't take human resources management(which is what I'm taking by correspondence)...then I failed Advanced Economic Theory, and dropped a stats course. Lol can you tell I'm doing business? So I am currently 3 courses behind, after my correspondence course is done, I'll be 2 courses behind. I just want to be done with school(or paying tuition as the case may be)!

I'm going to work out tomorrow NO MATTER WHAT THE WEATHER DOES. I've been slacking on a couple of rules of CAD and thats probably why my scale isn't moving at all. So tomorrow I get my butt in gear!

I want to get a yoga tape and try that, I'm the world's least flexible person, and I think yoga would probably help with that, being thinner might make it easier as well

As far as inspiring your sister, that will come with time. My sister started CAD with me a few weeks ago because she saw how it had worked for me...she's not too incredibly faithful to it, but its working bit by bit for her. Lol she told me that the reason she decided to lose weight was because she didn't want me to be thinner than her! I'm sort of hoping to be thinner than her when I'm done, I'm tired of being the 'big' sister in more ways than just age!

I have always been the skinny one in my family .. andI would like to keep it that. I will proably always be smaller than my sister even though we are 9 years apart.
I know what you mean about that flexibility .. It was so much easier when I did not have a tummy in my way.. there is one exercise that you pull your leg to your chest .. I was like hello I can't pull any farther my belly is in the way  Yep I am gonna go run/ walk tommorrow and then do my pilates tape and try to do a couple weight for my triceps and chest . I have to run/walk b/c I cant run all the time , I am not back in shape :wiggle: Tim ( my bf ) shaved his chest and stuff today and now he looks like he has lost 10 pounds , I was like what the hell ? how come I cant do that ? :bash: I just gave my puppy a bath and she got all mad at me. Talk to you tommorow ..
:dazzle: Have a Super Day

Ivory
Wed, Jun-05-02, 07:29
Lol Its just not fair that shaving doesn't make girls look like they've lost 10lbs! We don't have a trick like that!

Currently I'm in my PJ's sitting here waiting for my sister to get out of the bathroom, she has to go to school, and I have to go to work. I have 45 min to eat and get ready and she wanted to take a shower(which would mean she was in the bathroom for 44.5min) so she's pretty mad at me right now because I told her she can't have one.

I'm going to walk and then do chest, back, legs stuff today, as well as abs(I have a love-hate thing with cruches). Then I get to work more on my course.

When I get into the bathroom, I have to weigh myself. It was that time-of-month, and I'm hoping now that its gone, so is the water I was retaining and I've lost. I've been stuck for a while and I want it GONE!

I know it was my time of the month until yesterday . I didn't lose and more today though.. I had to go order my Aggie Ring :) yesterday and it was like 100 degrees and humid and it was my TOM .. so I probably ordered a size too big I normaly wear a ring size 7 but it was so hot and stuff I oredered a 8.25 .. These rings are a few hundred dollars so its not like I can just get another one.. I will proably have to got it resized if I lose weight too maybe I should have waited until after summer , But I want it so bad, Its suck a big tradiation and milestone at A & M ...I am pissed, I wanted to sleep in today b/c I know I am gonna be out late tonight and they are painting the apartemnt on top of ours :bash: they are loud and now there an fumes in our apt. Well, I'm down 2lbs this morning! I'm glad, I've been stuck for a while, so its NICE to have my weight drop finally! I'm finding my jewelery is getting looser as well.

What are you studying at school?

During my finals this spring, they were finishing the basement in my apartment building and I was on the first floor, so they were Drilling into the beams under my floor! Its really hard to study when that is going on!

Anyway I'm starving and want to go make something with all the veggies I just went and bought!

My major is Psychology and I am getting a buisness minor.. I want to work in Human Resources .. I am very hungry but I am gonna go try to run here in about 30 minutes .. it is sooo hot though , but I used to do it in high school for soccer practice .. I get to see my sister tommorrow I am pretty excited about that ... ALSO .. i get to cheat .. Dont tell :) I am gonna still work out and take some thermaslin.. this one girl I knew that was abou tmy size took that and ran and she lost a bunch of weight , but lately ther is talk of some other drug assitance if you know what I mean.. to help her.. Well I am goin out tonight again, some of our friends from houston are coming in to town Fun :) Well have a good day sweetie

Ivory
Wed, Jun-05-02, 15:44
I considered working in Human Resources, I was half way through my second semester of my second year when I realized that to do the organizational behaviour kind of stuff I wanted to do I would have to go back and take a bunch of physc. courses and I wasn't going to do that, so I declared my major as marketing. I'm excited about next year because I FINALLY get to take some electives, so I'm taking 2 world religions courses.

I wish I could run, I'm not in shape and I have breathing problems so running requires more air than I can take in...I'm gonna go power walking after dinner. Thats cool that you played soccer, it is my theory that soccer is the best sport to play if you want a nice butt!

I won't tell that you're going to cheat, if you don't tell that I am going out for chinese food next week which means that I'll be cheating too. I love chinese food, and there's a new place here in town that my best friend and I need to try out!

Ya know, I should see about scanning a picture in here...

HI!!!
I am so glad that I have found this forum. I've been going to the low carb forums for a while, but I haven't yet gone to the student one. I'm going to be a senior. I am a materials science and engineering major. I want to lose weight sooooo badly. At school it's not so hard, b/c I just don't buy the food that temps me, but at home it's wicked hard! I can't resist all the crappy food that my family buys, and they won't not buy it just for me. ( I do realize that that is a lot to ask, but it would be nice) I need some serious support b/c I have been cheating wicked badly lately, and I am afraid that the whole summer will be like this!
Thanks!
Tori

Hey Chicks!! GOD IT IS SOOOOOOOOO HOT!! I think it hit 105 degrees today!! Anything over 100 is killer!! I am definately not looking forward to 120!!

I wish I had this summer off. I am taking classes every session. 2 classes for each of the last 2 sessions. I will only have 3 classes in the fall which will be cool though. No toughies either! I tried to make it as easy as possible. I am getting burnt out!! I should have graduated in May but I shanged my major 2 times so I lost credits. I hate how UNLV works. I started off as a theatre major. I wanted to be an actress. Right. Then I switched to Education until I realized that I don' really like kids all that much. :o I finally switched over to communications because I already had a job at the local CBS affiliate news station here. I have a broadcast/ telecommunication production emphasis. I can't wait to graduate so I can move somewhere else and make more money.

I haven't been full on cheating but I have been getting out of hand lately with my nibbles. A little bite of a biscuit was turning onto the entire biscuit. I recently buckled down again after I got a hold of a picture from my friend. It is of me at my fattest at a party about a year ago. I decided I need to get strict again to make my goal by december. I have been working my ass off at the gym also. (I can only afford a gym membership because my boyfriend pays for it :) ) I am there for like 2 hours now. I never really could get into the pilates. I really like lifting weights though. I feel so strong and I am starting to be able to see my muscles now. YAY!! :yay:

Tori (VickiP?)- the best motivation I had at the beginning was looking at myself naked on the mirror (even now). I am too embarrassed to have someone take a picture but I just think of that whenever I want a "little bite" of bread or something. Just make sure you have legal treats around for you to munch on when you get the urge to cheat. There are some great recipes in the recipe section of this forum. I love the LC cheesecake. I don't really even remember what real sugar tastes like anymore.

Ivory
Thu, Jun-06-02, 20:55
I took an after pic of myself a couple of days ago, and I want to go get the film developed so that I can compare before/after pics of myself and maybe that will inspire me! I actually had a friend not recognize me tonight when I ran into her in the mall...it was nice that I looked that different since I saw her last(a year ago).

Lol Real Sugar tastes good, but it makes for real hips lol I'd rather skip it and look sweet instead!

I was down 1.5lbs this morning..yay! I was pretty happy.

I had chinese food for lunch today so I am not hungry, and when I am, I'll make a salad or something, but in the meantime, I'm going to get some work done for my correspondence course, and maybe go for a walk...I hate exercising...I have to say that I don't enjoy exercise. I like the feeling afterward, the endorphins flowing and all that, but its hard to get going for me because I don't actually like it.

Everything is going pretty well, I've lost a few pounds in the last couple weeks, I'm only 29.5lbs from my first major goal(of 25% BF)

Other than that, I have a dilemma. I have leased an apartment w/ 2 of my friends at school, now one girl wants her boyfriend to move in with us...I'm a little nervous about it, since I've met him once. We're all gonna get together and talk about it, I hope it works out.

How's life for you?

I cut that much off my hair once. It was waist length and I shaved my head, so that was a heck of a lot of hair gone(apparently my mind was also gone that day!) Now my hair is about to my chin, I've had it short(in a pixie type cut) for a few years but now I want to have it long for a while.

A couple of weeks ago, my best friend cut off several inches of her nice blond hair, got it cut short and spiky and we died it red! Very Drastic Change! But I think it looks great!

Thu, Jun-20-02, 18:33
Well mine sits right around my shoulders now and it was down below my boobs .. Its still blonde though.. its just werid .. i run my fingers through my hair and I am like where did it go :daze:
I took a xenadrine today and it made me rather nauseated .. I was doing my pilates and I had to stop b/c I felt sick .. I think thats how the pills work ... they make you sick so you dont feel like eating .. anyways how long has that girl been with her boyfriend ? b/c I would want to establish how well she even know him.. I live with my boyfriend and its wonderful but most people don't have the same experience ... and fight a lot and stuff :(

Ivory
Thu, Jun-20-02, 20:09
They've been together for about 3 years now, so she knows him pretty well. I just don't want to have to deal with yelling (or screaming as the case may be). We're gonna talk really frankly to them about what happens with fights, sex or if they break up. With us all being in school, its hard to study with people fighting and slamming doors, and I don't wanna be listening to "Oh Eric...oh yes" either!

I got the Pilates tape out of the library and am gonna give it a try tonight probably. I also got the workout book too. If I like it, I'll buy it...how are you liking it?

Anyway back to the fun world of HR Mgmt for me, I recently remembered how much I hate text books!

How's the challenge going? Am I too late to going? I need some extra modivation, I think...

I read in the beginning of this thread something about Wendy's and the carbs, etc and throwing away 1/2 the bun and wasting money...well the chicken nuggets at WENDY's only, have 2.2 carbs each. Whenever my friends want fast food, I just get them. If you're only induction or something you obviously couldn't eat them and would have to stay with the breadless burger, but it's just a suggestion:)

How much weight have you guys lost since you started the challenge and lcing?

Good Luck,
E

Hey Ladies!

Not sure how many of you are still working on the challenge... I know I'm taking it up a bit late. Plus, I'm on the quarter system so I wasn't even done until mid-June.

Anyway, the best part about Wendy's (in my humble opinion) is the 1/4 pound Deluxe Double Stack! 99¢ and all you have you do is scrape off the sauce and eat it without the bun. Buy two or three, and you have a feast--plus, it's no more money (actually less!) than I used to spend when I would get fries and a drink (now I just get water) and of course the every tasty frosty! Mmmmmm... oh how I miss a good frosty...

Sounds like you're all doing well by cheating here and there. I think you could benefit the most by trying to find a low-carb store (either online or in your area) where you can buy all sorts of goodies. LC chips, caramels, syrups, breads, pastas, breakfast shake mixes, chocolate bars... some even have SOFT-SERVE ICE CREAM! Yum...

Best of luck in continuing through the summer. I've got about 11 weeks and 35 pounds to lose... I'm pretty sure I can get most of that gone by summer's end if I can find the time to exercise (which is difficult with my job and commute...)!

Hello and Welcome!

11 weeks and 35lbs is possible, good luck! I'm trying to lose 10lbs/month, so I have about 18.5lbs left to lose before the end of August. Then about 20lbs after that to my final goal weight.

I like the new Wendy's Chicken BLT salad(without the dressing and croutons)

PurpleDawg
Fri, Jul-12-02, 16:47
You know what else from Wendy's is good?! The Caesar Side Salad (obviously without the croutons)!! The Caesar dressing is even allowable as long as you make sure to count the carbs... but it's very tasty as well.

My other favorite fast-food find is Jack-in-the-Box's "Ultimate Cheeseburger". Two *huge* patties with nothing but cheese and mayo on them. I swear it's like Jack is catering to the LC-eater! There was even a commercial in the burger's early debut that said, "We like the meat and cheese idea... but what's with the bun?" Hah... I watched too much TV back then... but I digress...

Good luck on your reaching your goal by August. I don't think I'll reach all 35 pounds by the end of summer... but I would like to lose 20 of those at least... I'd like to slow up my loss around August or even September by heading towards pre-maintenance.

~Aaron

I sometimes do the side ceaser and the Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger without the bun. Other than that, I don't do the whole fast food thing much because its too much of a temptation to get what I want rather than what I should get.

I'm hoping to get those 20lbs gone by the end of the summer. I've been home since the beginning of May and I'd love to go back to school and have jaws drop. If I can lose those 20, I'll have lost 40 since I left school and 60 total.

So tell me a bit about yourself!

PurpleDawg
Fri, Jul-12-02, 19:22
Well, I'm going to be a first-year senior at the University of Washington in Seattle... (Go Huskies!...and also where the name comes from). I'm pursuing dual engineering degrees, so it'll take me five years--hence the "first-year senior" title.

Other than that, I actually did Atkins in high school and had great success... but I was young and naive and thought I was invincible. SO, now I'm back up in weight again and back on the diet, only this time I intend to be on it for life. I really do feel healthier on this diet... not nearly the mood and energy swings I'm used to having, and I actually received a comment today by a friend about looking a little thinner... maybe I have lost more than I thought I had!

(I haven't checked in about a week ago when I was home because I don't have a scale... yet...) At least it saves me the agony of wanting to weigh everyday! ;)

Ivory
Fri, Jul-12-02, 19:41
Engineering...not my cup of tea...too much math for me. I'm going to the University of Ottawa to get an Honours Bachelor of Commerce(Majoring in marketing), I'm going into my third year of four.

This is the first time I've done the whole lo-carb thing. I've always been a solid person, and when I went away to university I was on medication that caused me to gain weight, so now I'm off the meds and down 41lbs.

Lol I do check the scale EVERY day, usually more than once, actually to be perfectly honest I barely ever walk past the scale without stepping on it-its good that its not in the bathroom I am near very often!

PurpleDawg
Fri, Jul-12-02, 20:31
Every day?! I'd go crazy.... I know that weight is supposed to fluctuate on a relatively regular basis... if I thought I was gaining for any reason, I'd probably freak--especially since I'm being so strict!

I guess I just have good will power when it comes to something I'm passionate about. And, I'm finally putting my foot down about my weight. I passed up free pizza at a lunch meeting at work the other day, and I passed up home-made cherry pie during the 4th. It's not easy, but I've found all you have to say is "NO". It doesn't solve my cravings, but with each "NO" I come that much closer to my goal weight... yay!

I have pretty good will power and my family knows and supports my weight loss. My dad got everyone food from Wendy's tonight but didn't get me any, I wished I'd known he was going because I would have gotten a chicken BLT salad, but ah well.

I'm on Carb Addicts, not Atkins, so I can have some carbs, at dinner, so thats why I think this works for me because mentally I don't have to cheat to enjoy foods I want, I just have to have them at dinner.

PurpleDawg
Mon, Jul-15-02, 14:29
That's a good way to work it. I'm enjoying the "phasing in" of carbs on Atkins now. I bought strawberries (yum!) and macadamia nuts (also yum!) yesterday when I was shopping. I can't have much of them, but even a little for a snack or dessert will be a piece of heaven compared to the 138th piece of bacon!

Had a busy weekend... even got out and played some full-court basketball. MAN am I out of shape. I had a few good moves, but could barely keep up with everybody out there...

Ivory
Mon, Jul-15-02, 17:24
Hey

I had strawberries last week, they were so good. I had banannas tonight, also incredibly good. I've been on Carb Addicts since the end of February and am really having to search to find interesting things to eat. I tried to make LC Ice Cream last night, I put in WAY too much vanilla extract and it was really gross, but I made some Sugar Free Jello.

I don't play basketball, namely because I have broken fingers on a couple of occasions, makes me think MAYBE basketball isn't my sport! lol I'm not in terrible shape, but not in good shape either.

I'm supposed to be heading out of town soon to pick up my friend so that we can go to the beach tomorrow, I'm so excited(despite having bathing suit issues lol)

Man... major headache... long day at work.

I'm writing mainly to see if I've finally gotten this whole "avatar" thing to work. And as for basketball, I've played since elementary school, so it's one of my only sports.

Hope you have a good time at the beach! I know the weather around here has been just perfect lately!

I had a great day at the beach, bought a new bathing suit, got sunburned(as always) and had a great time.

Always sunburned, huh? Sounds to me like you're pretty fair-skinned like myself. I'm about 90% English and German--not meant to see the sun much! (But for some reason I have a fine appreciation for chivilry and beer... go figure!)

Glad to hear you had a good time. I know my headache's gone and work is just cruisin. I can't wait until tomorrow. I get to work out in the field for the next week-and-a-half to two-weeks depending on a few factors. But, at least it gets me outside, gets me away from the desk and gets me some much needed EXERCISE!

Hope the diet's goin well for you. I'm loving the added carbs... it's like a dream come true... *and* I looked at my keto stix this morning and I'm still burnin' strong which is terrific. I'm tempted to step on the scale, but I'll wait until Monday as the ritual must not be violated! ;)

This is like sun burn #3 this season, and this one looks so dumb. I was so careful to wear my tankini because the straps are thin and normal and so my tan lines wouldn't look dumb, but my friend who put sun screen on me did some sort of very erratic pattern on my back and so I have a really weird looking burn!

What do you do? I'm stuck in retail this summer, working at a luggage store. Its not bad, but not exactly my life-long calling(lol it would make the thousands of dollars of student debt pretty pointless eh?)

I cheated yesterday, like all day, I was a bad low-carber(but damn I enjoyed it lol) but overall, the diet is going well, I've hit a slowed pace lately probably just because my body is regrouping after the weight I've lost.

You saying you can't violate your ritual is just like me. I go into the bathroom every morning, do my thing, and then go over step on the scale once without looking down(just to warm the scale up) then I weigh myself, this cannot be done if I'm wearing pants, it just isn't part of the ritual. lol I'm such a dork

Hi everyone!
Well I am ready for this low carb thing, it is definately something I have never tried before. I just hope to fit in my tight jeans by the time next semester starts. I live in a college town and I eat take out more than I probably should. What are good take-out/college food choices for low carbers? Well I wish everyone luck and will power this summer. I'd love to see some before and after pics!!

Good Take out choices are salads, just take out any crutons and be careful of what dressing you use. Also you can get a burger as long as you take off the bun, don't get anything breaded either.

I think you'll find LCing to be a pretty good way to get rid of some extra pounds. I've been on it since Feb 26 and have lost 42.5lbs.

I have the same goal you do, to look great come the start of next semester!

I've heard that as long as a) you're not on induction and b) you don't eat more than a slice or two, you can scrape the cheese and toppings from pizza onto a low-carb tortilla once-in-a-while for a quick tasty treat.

Really, anything with protein and fat as a staple in the meal can be worked around. If it's a sandwhich or burger, take off the bread. If it's breaded chicken, take off the skin. It's up to you to simply count and eliminate carbs (and at the same time, eliminate pounds!)

I bought a Pilates workout tape today. Now I'm not one for perky aerobics workout tapes, but this one is pilates, ballet and yoga. It was really good, low on the perky annoying scale. Challenging but easy to understand what the move was.

What exactly is "pilates"?

Joseph Pilates designed these workouts, specific exercises to target your transverse ab muscle. They're super hard to do, but they work so well. Here's how well they work, Joseph Pilates DIED 100 years ago! They're still really popular.

Hey hun-yeah, I got into the pilates thing, and realized how truly weak my ab muscles are. I have packed my stuff to move and my video is in one of the boxes so I won't be doing it for a while...but I am starting to see definite shape in my tummy...if only my ass would go! lol

How is the pain? I hope its not to bad.

I had a great time on my girl's weekend. I was a bit nervous because I was going with a friend to her friend's cottage, but I had a FABULOUS time, they're a great group of girls! I cheated so bad, I just gave up on LC this weekend, I was not gonna sit there and have celery when everybody else was eating junk food!

I think I start the 4th or 5th. I'm not sure, I should check on that.

I move up this Saturday. I just found out from my subletters that my building has been sold! I hope that means that they have to honour my lease! Now I'm trying to get ahold of my landlord.

Hey hun,

Right now I'm eating chips and dip, so not an LC food. I'm having a bad day, its my last day at home, I'm tired, stressed and am going to have dinner with my best friend tonight, she's going to England for an exchange so I won't see her, after tonight, until June of next year...I don't want to say goodbye...

Anyway I move tomorrow so I'll hopefully catch you on AOL next week when I'm back online...

Nope, no PE like classes for us...I'm so glad lol Isn't that a healthy attitude to have eh? I hated PE in school, with a passion.

I'm moved in, and we've been painting for the past few days, and I'm already ready to kill my room-mate...we had a fight last night over plates...long story, the point is that she's driving me nuts-she's a 'my way or the highway' kind of person, and whines if she doesn't get what she wants and has no problem using people to get what she wants either. I like her but she's one of those friends that you keep at arm's length for your own protection. Anyway that was a nice little rant I had going there.

I've been off LC since I moved, so now I'm back on in the hopes to at least not gain any weight.

Anyway gotta go, one more class and my day is over! yay!

Don't worry about it, life has been pretty crazy for me too, I don't even have time to breath some days!

Well I came home for Thanksgiving(its in October in Canada) and weighed myself on my 'real' scale, the one I trust, and I've now lost 50lbs! yay! I have about another 28 to go I think til I'm done.

Thats great about your 13lbs! You must be so happy!
