Where I live in England is more commonly known as The Irish Centre!

Can't comment on the shopping but generally the reaction to LCing is not too positive. If it was not for this Forum and the support and advice I get here I would likely have been pulled back into the Low Fat is healthier way of thinking. You need to try it and if it works for you do everything in your power to stay with it.

When I first started the first two weeks were so tough (still remember the headache) that it was only my determination to give it a full two-week 100% commitment trial that kept me going. I am very glad I did. It has changed my life.
Take care.

Hi,

Where abouts in Ireland are you ?

I'm not there but I have roots there. I do most of my shopping online - even Tescos as I never have time to actually go. I tend to stick to things I know, fish, cheese, veggies, cream etc etc. About once a month I try to go to check out labels and try new things. I also use these boards as inspiration and a source of info for foods and recipies.

I have had a fairly positive reaction as a few people I know are doing it and others have seen the results - even my mother - a hardened low fat, calorie counting weight watcher is off to buy herself the book this week !

there is loads of support and info here

Hi Tink

I live in Sligo just moved from the UK back to Ireland after living there for 18 years, in September.

I find most people have not heard of Low Carbing .If i am in the Cafe for breakfast they think somethings wrong if i dont take the bread or toast as their portions are very genourous.

I haven't told too many people I'm doing this yet, going to wait and see how it goes....

Hi Toodlepip

Yeah i find it easier not to tell anyone.I have told only family and a few friends as it is easier than having to explain what your doing. But if i am out at lunch at work i just explain to whoever i am with, then i dont end up eating something i shouldnt.
Good luck with the Low Carbing and keep in touch

Yeah Joe, I think I'll tell people as need be. So far just my live-in partner knows and he's very supportive, if not slightly bemused by my ranting " I cannot have sugar, we are not going out for dinner and I'm off the booze!".

Sounds good Doodle...

HI Joe

I live in Dublin and have been following The Schwarzbein Principle now for 9 weeks. and 8lbs down!!!

I don't find it too hard to feed myself, as the main ingredients for my woe are easily available ....meat, veg, salads etc.

I am demented looking at labels in Superquinn ...to the point where I am now reading the ingredients on the back of washing powder boxes!!!

I'd love to be able to get the sweeteners they talk about on this site so I could make some desserts!!!!

I buy bournville chocolate and eat 2.3 squares when I need a fix.
But I would kill for a low carb cereal!!! I really miss that.

how are you getting on? and where do you live?

Morning all

I am from Raheny originally ( I know Baldoyle well, Joe) but now live in Clondalkin with my fiance.

Seamus is from Tipp and we spent the weekend there visiting his Dad. I tried to explain my diet to him but he is quite old and he found it very confusing!!!!!

He just couldn't understand why I wouldn't eat cereal and bread but lashed into a plate of bacon and eggs!!!!!

Where are you, Doodle?

Would it be Maywood Drive? If so, I think I might know them. We lived on the main Howth Road so I used to play around in that estate when I was a child.

I'm not sure if it's the same people but are there a couple of girls and 1 boy in the family?
and are they very tall?!

Isn't it funny how Irish people always know someone in common? I worked in a hostel in Perth Australia a few years ago and I was the only Irish person there.

The lads in the hostel were fascinated that everytime an Irish person checked in, the new person and I would go through a ritual of ...'where are you from?' do you know so-and-do?

They used to sit around waiting for us to find someone in common...and I think they used to bet on how long it would take...

Jo

welcome to the Irish corner.

All, I am going to be on Marian Finucane on the radio on Tuesday!

I have a medical condition called PCOS, and we are setting up a support group for women with this condition.

It is so exciting for us, as we are having a big meeting on SAt 25th so this will help us fill up the room!

It's on between 9 and 10 if you get a chance to hear it.

I'm going to talk about low carb if I can.

Good Luck with your support group for PCOS and on Tuesday, Clo.
We have a PCOS sub-forum (http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay.php?forumid=46) on this website - feel free to post there to keep in touch with each other.

{Clo: Isn't it funny how Irish people always know someone in common?} LOL! Whenever I went anywhere with Mum I would just sit and wait for them to "take off". The conversation would go just as it did in this thread! Sometimes I'll go to a wedding or other social event without her and complete strangers (to me anyway) would come up and ask if I was so-and-so's daughter ;)

Take care.

Well done this morning ,i thought you and your friend came across very well with your topic and ye were both very brave people to discuss it.
There is a station here in the West called NWR and the host is Tommy Marron so ye might like to speak to him i am sure he would give you some air time.As alot of females in the west would be listening to the show rather than Radio 1.

Hi all

You can listen to it on the web if you like www.rte.ie and look up marian finucane.

The diet got most response - RTE's switchboard was jammed completely.

It was very exciting and we have tripled our membership in 2 days!!!

I also wanted to tell you all about a ready made dinner I bought in Tesco - I never eat processed food, but was so busy today, I got the Thai red chicken curry - only 12g carbs per pack!

and it was gorgeous!!!!

just thought you might be interested. Had a big salad with it. it was very good.

Hello Joe,

I've just started the diet... I've done it before and it does work but i'm useless in the kitchen and get bored with the same food and go back to all my bad habits... mainly living on white bread.
I would love to find out more about shopping for low carbs... i'm living in cork. Most of the sites i've found are really expensive.. do you buy from them

Hope to hear from you

Hi

I'm Irish too. I'm living In Dublin but am from Kildare originally. I am doing a low GI diet and have been reading Montignac which I think I'll adapt slightly. I have also ordered the diet cure and potatoes not prozac which I will also use for my own low carb plan. I find it difficult to follow any particular plan because I am sensitive to lots of different foods.

Hi all,

I'm Irish too and new to this forum, though I've been lurking for a little while. I'm trying like mad to rid myself of the 'low fat is good' mentality that I've built up over years of weightwatchers and other diets! My question is, how have people managed with basically adapting the very American bent of the low carb books and eating plans into a way of eating that is easy in an Irish context? I'm finding it slightly frustrating reading the recipes and menus and not being able to get some of the ingredients here, or knowing how I can make them with what I can get here and still adhere to the plan.

Just wondering how anyone else is coping with that... If anyone would post a daily menu that would be really helpful.

Thanks so much,

Clare Anne

Hi Joe,

I'm Irish too and living in the west.

What has happened to our Irish page - has everyone gone on holidays?

I'm on Atkins and I would like to hear what foods you are all eating. I would love to hear from anyone - type of local support, you can't beat it!!

Perhaps we can breath some life back into our Irish forum? how about it LC buddies?

Good wishes from the damp(forget damp) wet west! Hope to hear from you soon!

Last time I replied I wasoonly onthe diet 3 days. I am now on it five weeks and have lost 1 stone 6lbs. The problem is I am off to USA tomorrow for three weeks and I am a little scared that I might eat stuff I have not been eating lately. But the good thing is that I can find all the low carb goodies over there. I recently found a shop in Dublin that sold low carb bars in blueberry flavour - I thought I was great as there was only 3.5 gms per bar - they tasted so bad I had to throw them in the bin!

Anyway, back in 3 weeks and lighter than I am now. I actually find the diet alright because I am used to it now. Though my first PMS weekend was awful because I craved sugar so bad for two days solid before the craving went away. I DID NOT GIVE IN!
ANyway, keep up the good work and I will be back soon,

Hi I'm Irish but living in London and thought that I'd feel more at home joining the Irish forum! On the subject of bangers without rusks; my butcher makes them for me - very nice man - I usually go for pork with smoked bacon, loads of black pepper and some onion powder - truly scrumptious!!! He also makes excellent burgers with no rusk or additives. If you can find good butcher and give him pleanty of notice I'm sure he will oblige.
