I was watching Oprah Winfrey yesterday and she had a doctor on there -- Dr. Christine Northrup who wrote a book, The Wisdom of Menopause.
She said it is not uncommon for women to begin to experience symptoms as early as their 30's and that symptoms can persist for 5-13 years.
One of the things she mentioned was the rise in insullin and gaining weight along with a host of other symptoms women experience -- cold hands, feet, night sweets, weight gain in middle, migraines to name a few.
I found the book at amazon.com for about $16 and thought it might be something women could find helpful no matter what age -- because one day we will face it whether we want to or not.
I haven't gotten my book yet, but was so impressed with Dr. Northrup and just wanted to pass this along. I've recommended it to my 28 year old daughter who is obese, has night sweats and has horrible migraines. She talks about nutritional things along with something like a 2% progesterone cream to help balance out your hormones.
If anyone has the book, I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on it.
She also had an exerpt from Kathy Smith who has also written a book, Moving through Menopause. Kathy Smith is now 50 years old and said she was in denial for some time about it -- I know when I think of menopause I cringe.
