I'm glad I found this forum and that it led me to the thyroid.about.com site. I learned things there I never even knew and I've been on synthroid for 27 years. I was diagnosed after my first baby and have been on it ever since. Now I learned that if we had just waited my thyroid levels probably would of returned to normal, the dr I went to then jumped the gun I think and here I am almost 30 years later still stuck on that drug. Now there are reports of it not being approved, not being quite the drug I was led to believe. I feel like I've been scammed in a way. I didn't realize that weight control was hard even if you are taking the synthroid, that some of the problems I've faced over the years, minor ones maybe, may of been due to a condition I thought was okay due to the med. I'm going to do more reading on the subject to see what more I don't know. I was 21 when I went on it, I trusted the drs. back then blindly. Now at 48 I think I've become a bit jaded about their opinions. I think it's time to take a bit more active involvement with my health.....gee do ya think? :doah: This has been a rant of sorts. Well I had to let it out. No one ever suggested an alternate med either......curious.

I feel like I was scammed also. I'm only 20 and have been on shythroid for a little over a year now. I wasn't told anything bad about it, Not even that it wasn't FDA approved. Every doctor that prescribes it gives the same BS story "it makes your thyroid normal again and makes your metabolism go back up". For the past year I've been dieting and exercising my butt off and haven't lost one single pound. I don't even gain weight, I just maintain it. I always thought it was me and I was supposed to be fat or something untill I came on message boards and started hearing the same complaints from everyone else.
Its just HARDER to lose weight while taking synthroid. I'm not sure of the exact reasons, someone else on here can probably clear that part up though.
I'm on my 5th day of Atkins and Metabolite..Hopefully this works for me.
