For the last 14 years I have been smoking.

A month ago a friend gave me an inhaler sample a 5 day supply.
I used it for two days and then quit that.
I never thought it was possible for me to stop smoking, and thought it would be the hardest thing I had ever done.

I Know that all the patches, inhalers, or gum. couldn't help me as much as changing my additude about how hard it was to quit.

Once I realized that it was my disision to smoke or not. It was easier than I ever thought.

I wish you all success in defeating this foul habit.

Way to go Paul!!
I think your so right about changing your attitude. I quit cold turkey 19 days ago, and it really hasn't been too bad...but I was ready for it, I didn't use any nicotine products to quit because I heard they just lenghten the process of withdrawal because your body is still getting nicotine.....
I wish you the best
Louise

Great to hear Paul U have had an attitude adjustment! It day 25 as a non-smoker. I am using the patch and extremely pleased with how it is working. I wanted the gradual withdrawl but hey what ever works!

Great work Paul. You've done the hard part. Now comes the easy part: maintenance.

Where there is a Will there is a Way. You just proved it. Albeit sometimes a little help {"friend gave me an inhaler "} does help in triggering the process off and putting you on the fast track.

Congratulations :cheer:

Take care.

I started smoking three years ago at age 48, after not smoking for 25 years.
Maybe it was a mid-life thing, I now smoke 2 packs a day and feel awful. My breathing sounds terrible. With the weight problem, it's a double edged sword.

It just makes me have faith after reading your thoughts that I can do it. Thanks

They say there is never a really good time to quit, U just have to do it. For me it was 6 weeks ago. Our provincial government put up our cigs so that they cost 8.50 a pack! I went out and bought the patch and quit the next day. I have absolutely no regrets. My main concern was weight gain..BUT because I have been real careful, altho the scale says Im up 6 pounds my clothes fit the same as B 4 I quit. I heard on the news today that zyban or welbutrin works better for women than the gum or the patch. Im happy tho cause I have nothing more than a a quick passing craving and thats it. I wish U luck. U can do this and this forum has been awesome for support not only for low-carbing but for staying smoke free.

I know one thing I will never pay $8.50 for a pack of cigarettes, $3.50 is bad enough.....yes, we all need to encourage one another and we all can do it!

Lena gal  I hope your able stop for good this time.
I dont know how it was so easy for me to stop smoking. I wish I knew so I could bottle it and give it to you.

The only thing I know for a fact is that YOUR STRONG ENOUGH TO QUIT .

You have done it before thats your proof.
You can sit around all day saing that it's too hard, the addiction is too strong.
But deep down inside you know that it just takes that one step.
The ultimate decision to never smoke again.

I dont mean to be harsh, but I belive A big help in changing my look on the whole cigarette addiction mind set I had, was hearing someone say " Only weak-minded people are unable to quit smoking " Man I heard that and I was pissed off. Thinking who are you to say that, I smoke and I'm not a weak person. Then it sank in. I had been wanting to quit for as long as I had smoked. I relized that to stop I had to make that one decision with a strong mind . It worked for me. :)

I know you'll find what will work for you.

Stay strong
Paul

you're right I had nearly forgotten I did not smoke from the time I was 23 (when I married) until 3 years ago when I was 48. My God, if I can do that, I can do it again, yes, will enters in but it is such a powerful addiction.

appreciate it, Paul
