Hi all,
Been dairy and grain-free for a while, and now that my back-stock of legumes is used up I would like to take one more step toward a truly paleo diet. I have to be honest I'm going to miss my beans! My body tolerates them very well, no gas or discomfort, and my bowel movements have been downright orgasmic. Nonetheless I'd like to go without for at least 30 days and see what does or doesn't happen.
For others who moved toward paleo in stages, did you find that giving up legumes produced a noticeable benefit in itself? I'd be interested in any comments and/or what to expect.

Please share with me what is on your daily menu. I've been having gut issues so have decided to eat only meat/eggs for a few days and I think I have a rock sitting in my colon.

I never did like beans that much, and I was easily won over to the "real chili is just meat" philosophy until I gave up nightshades. But then, they always gave me pretty bad gas and bad digestion in general.

If you need some rationalization to give up the legumes read up on lectins: http://www.krispin.com/lectin.html

Thanks Nancy, good info there.
I'm still on the fence about beans but am nonetheless committed to being legume-free for at least a month to see how I feel. I had been buying dry beans and doing my own long-soaking and cooking, so perhaps that is why they haven't bothered me in the past. I'll miss the extra fiber but at the same time I want to give full-on paleo a try because you never know how a food is really effecting you until you remove it.
If I end up adding beans back to my diet that would be fine with me. I've never really had the desire to get the paleo 'title' per se, it's just that the paleo philosophy is what fits me best and that's why I hang out here.
Secondrain: Wish I could give you some ideas that would help your current situation. That's got to be miserable. I allow myself unlimited fruits and veggies with some nuts and seeds thrown in for snacking, so I'm averaging 30 grams of fiber per day even without beans. My GI tract just really enjoys the fiber I guess.
Hope things get 'moving' for ya!

It's amazing how few people will admit to that.

Good grief...
Being legume-free is harder than I expected. I've discovered that there's soy hidden in just about everything! Can't afford to throw out my canned tuna though so now technically I won't be legume-free for another few days. Oh well.
I'll get the hang of this yet. :p

Natural Sea brand tuna is soy-free, if you want to keep eating canned tuna.
Unless you're allergic, I don't think trace amounts of soy broth or soybean oil are nearly as bad as trace amounts of gluten or casein.

I was going to post the same thing Mikee did but was too lazy. :p

Thanks guys. I figure as long as I've committed to being legume-free for 30 days I might as well do it right and get accurate results. I bought some Bumble Bee prime fillet albacore for 1.65 a can that lists only tuna and water for ingredients and as a bonus it's very low sodium as well. Bit pricier than my regular stuff but I've saved so much money on groceries these past few months I can splurge a little on tuna. ;)
