Forgot to enter my weight on Friday. Another gain, alas. I have given myself a good talking to and asked DH to keep an eye on me over the weekend. Seems to have worked. Just had a big bowl of salad with chicken for lunch (although, the tomatoes were terribly insipid) and I'm feeling good.

I am so hoping for a loss on Friday, but I'd be okay if it was a maintain. Just as long as it doesn't go up!!!

Angela,
I'd suggest that you begin to log your food into your journal here daily. It will help you to keep account of what you are eating and I'll be able to help you when I can see all that you are eating.
Are you willing to do this?

Having a hard time staying on track. Paying for it with major stomache problems. Hopefully the pain I'm experiencing will be enough to get me back on track.

That's very kind of you, Judy. I know why I gained this week---comfort eating after some stressful stuff, but hopefully I can knock that on its head. In a way it's an improvement that I only gained a pound... in the old days I'd have gained at least 3! I will start journalling my food again, though.

This is the Meal Plan Chart which is the basis of how we are to learn how to eat:

SBD Meal Plan Chart
How To Adapt Your Meal Plan- Phase I

The South Beach Diet? is designed so that you can easily swap meals and ingredients. If you don't like eggs for breakfast, have low-fat cottage cheese or lean meat instead. Not a fish lover? Then choose lean beef or poultry. In Phase 1 of the diet, you can eat as many proteins and vegetables as you like, plus fats like olive oil. Fruit and starches aren't allowed until Phase 2. Here's a look at some general eating guidelines. For specific food choices, check out the Phase 1 Foods to Enjoy & Avoid list.

BREAKFAST
Protein: Quantity is not limited. Start with a 2 oz. portion, eat slowly, go back for seconds if still hungry.

Vegetables: Minimum 1/2 cup or 6-8 oz. tomato or vegetable juice.

Fruit: None

Starch: None

Milk/Dairy: 2 cups allowed daily (including yogurt)

Fat: 1 tsp mayonnaise, trans-free margarine, or oil (optional)

SNACK
Snacks are required. Choose a protein, vegetable, fat-free plain yogurt, or nuts/seeds. A snack that combines protein (1 oz.) and vegetables is encouraged.

LUNCH
Protein: Quantity is not limited. Start with a 3 oz. portion, eat slowly, go back for seconds if still hungry.

Vegetables: Minimum 2 cups.
We encourage you to include a serving of beans (1/3-1/2 cup) as part of your vegetables.

Fruit: None

Starch: None

Milk/Dairy: 2 cups allowed daily (including yogurt)

Fat: 1 Tbsp mayonnaise, trans-free margarine or oil, or 2 Tbsp salad dressing

SNACK
Snacks are required. Choose a protein, vegetable, fat-free plain yogurt, or nuts/seeds. A snack that combines protein (1 oz.) and vegetables is encouraged.

DINNER
Protein: Quantity is not limited. Start with a 3 oz. portion, eat slowly, go back for seconds if still hungry.

Vegetables:Minimum 2 cups.
We encourage you to include a serving of beans (1/3-1/2 cup) as part of your vegetables.

Fruit: None

Starch: None

Milk/Dairy: 2 cups allowed daily (including yogurt)

Fat: 1 Tbsp mayonnaise, trans-free margarine or oil, or 2 Tbsp salad dressing

DESSERT / EVENING SNACK
Desserts are optional. Enjoy some of your Sweet Treat allowance, a dessert, or any of the snack choices.

SWEET TREATS
Sweet Treats are products that contain sugar alcohols. You can enjoy them throughout the day to satisfy your sweet tooth ? just limit yourself to roughly 75 calories worth per day to avoid any GI distress.
See a list of Sweet Treat options here

BEVERAGES
Diet, decaffeinated, sugar-free drinks are not limited. You can enjoy caffeinated coffee or diet sodas with caffeine added, but limit to 1 - 2 servings per day.

It will show you how and when you can add EVOO. Its a bit stingy as I use EVOO in my cooking and my salad dressings so I end up using a bit more than it allows.
As far as I'm concerned, using this as a guide in learning to eat the SBD way, has been key to my weight loss and my long term maintenance. :)

While I'm writing about this, I want to tell all of you that entering phase II does not eliminate the need to eat your protein and veggies first and then begin to add in your good carbs...the good carbs do not replace the proteins and veggies!!! The carbs that we add back are an accessory to our food plan, not the focus.

Thanks, Judy!

Saturday will be disastrous, I'm sure. It's my little boy's 3rd birthday party, so sugar and saturated fat abound! And straight after that we're off to a 60th birthday party. Thankfully nothing calorific is planned for Sunday. I think a long walk is called for.

Still, I am very proud of myself for making the birthday cake of his dreams. The challenge will be in hiding it from him until the party as the board I've set it on is huge!!He knows that he's getting a triceratops cake, but he hasn't seen it since I shut the kitchen door this morning :) Can't wait to see his face!!!

You folks are such an inspiration to me. Thanks Judy & Skippie for the encouragement & kind words. Seepling, I have been where you are many times & feel your frustration. Just stick with it & for now try to look for evidence of your weight loss in places other than the scale. I know that's hard when those dratted numbers mean so much to us, but maybe your body is just rearranging itself right now. We're all here for you to vent and Judy can offer even more than that. Good luck!

Hi Everyone. Is anyone out there? The boards seem to have just frittered away to a S-L-O-W dribble. If anyone is still reading, good luck to you as we approach the holidays.

I think there are a couple of us still here. I need to be here I just don't well being off by myself. Most knowing I have to log my weight each week helps me stay closer to plan.

Have a wonderful week everyone.

Time to get myself back on this list. Didn't want to post a check-in last week because the number was so ugly - but it's coming back down now so I've added last week's and this week's at the same time.

I have to thank the flu for this loss. I was waiting to weigh most of last week since I got sick on Tue nite. But my weight has held the same for 4 days now. Just hope I don't have a major incress.
But I'm feeling good and now I have a clean slate again. And eating and drinking again.

I'm very happy with this weigh in. :D
I wasn't sure if I'd jump back up after having the flu. But I've really tried to watch what I was eating. And our Holidays parties were over before Christmas. So I'm back on track again!!!
