My god i am so so sick of this!!! Why can't I just stick to this and lose the weight already?? I have been lowcarbing for the last 11 yrs(my own version) but started atkins around may/june. In that time i have had 4 restarts and have lost and gained the same bloody 1.5 kgs over and over. Why do I keep reaching for the carbs after one week on plan, infact if I stay on plan even a day it is a miracle.

I so badly want to lose the weight, I have been fighting this for ever, I can't seem to stay with it for more than a few days and then i cheat. I don't have any patients at all.... what do i do? How does one gain some patien and not let weight loss be the ONLY thing they think about? I keep thinking if only i had kept to it i could have lost 5 kgs by now, after all so many others are, why not me???

:bhug: :there: Ok, first of all I am soooo sorry, I know you can do this!

Pitty party over!

Couple of questions:
1) When you indulge in carbs are you doing this at home or when you are out?
If it is at home I would suggest that you clean out your cupboards, fridge, pantry etc of all of those no-no carbs. If there is nothing there to eat that counts as a cheat then you won't cheat!
If you are indulging when you are out is it because you are allowing yourself to get too hungry?
Eat before you go out.
Take lc snacks with you. (Yes, I'm famous for carrying a cooler everywhere).

2) Carb cravings are real. They will come at you until you get that carb monster under control.
Make sure you have plenty of high fat snacks available - deviled eggs, left over burgers etc that are quick and easy to grab and eat

3) Do you eat out a lot? I would suggest cooking at home exclusively, if at all possible, for a couple of weeks. When dining out it is very difficult to determine exactly what spices, breadings etc restaurants use.

Good luck!

Have you tried upping your carbs after one week. I found that after LCing for years I don't do so well on induction any longer. Now that I've upped my carbs I'm doing much better. I also watch my calories but don't really sweat over them. My goal is 30-50 grams carb and 1400 calories per day.

I also recommend getting rid of all junk food from your house and preplanning is mandatory, even if you can't follow your menus exactly.

I also post everything I eat in MyPlan. That way I can see what is working for me, my weekly and monthly averages. Occasionally when Iget caught having to eat out I post what I eat and then look at as part of my grand scale of eating. For instance, last week I was caught in another town hungry and needing to eat. We stopped at Wendy's and I got a Grilled Chicken Go Wrap. When I got home I looked up that info on it and entered it into MyPlan. Because breakfast and lunch were lower carb I was still between my goals of 30 and 50 (it was 33 for the day).

Hope this helps.

thanks all. I feel a bit embarrassed about my little spit there. :o I forgot I wasnt venting in my journal and really wasn;t looking for any pity, that won't get me anywhere..

I don't go off track when i am out, it seems to happen when i am at home and it usually happens with eating sandwiches - bread, which i can not get rid of as i need to to make my kids lunches..

I appreciate your advise and will keep it in mind. I guess I am just waiting for something to click....

Much love to you Samina. I know exactly how you feel. I get on plan then I "fall off". Only after re-tracing my steps, I find that I've jumped off. I didn't cheat by accident. That's when I kick myself, shake my finger at my reflection in the mirror and accomplish nothing by chastisements. I'm an emotional eater...and a big baby. I don't like seeing the cake and ice cream, cookies, pies, sandwiches, yadayadayada, and I CAN"T have some. Everybody else can have some. Not me.

So feel free to vent. Once you get out of your system, then you can retrace your steps and see what set you off. Venting is a good thing. Go for it.

I feel for you and you are not alone. I got back on the wagon on June 1. Since then I've had three times I've gone off plan. Twice with alcohol and once where I ate too much food -- not necessarily cake or apple pie, but I was way over on carbs.

Each time I just went back to the drawing board, had to watch the water drain from my ankles day-by-day. I finally posted a little sign over my monitor. "It's not worth it!"

The beer, which triggers my overeating, it's not worth it to step backwards for two weeks.

I can't ever say I'm not going to fall off again. My goal is to establish my L/C lifestyle and live it for the rest of my life. It's the only way I'm not hungry and stuffing myself all the time. Plus it gets results.

One thing I could suggest is you go back to the beginning and make sure you clean out any foods that could get you in trouble. If you have a family or partner who isn't l/c, ask them to change to help.

Also, Samina, you seem to be dealing with about roughly 20 pounds you want to lose. Perhaps this isn't a food issue as much as an exercise issue. There are lots of ways to look at it and see if you can find a solution.

I wish you the best.

You hang in there! I have fallen off the low carb wagon many times. But the good thing about it is that you can always jump right back on! My down fall is jello shots! and chocolate! I'm getting ready to start adding exercise back into my day. I really miss it! I know before when I was low carbing, it was a lot easier to stay on track.

I always try to keep something low carb but sweet in the fride, like sugar free jello and whip cream! That usually helps me when I get a craving!

So don't give up! You can do this!

I'm still here! Not going anywhere..

I do walk or jog for exercise however it is not constant. Most of the weight is around my middle - stomack and hips. The rest is fine. I have made an effort this week to exercise more. Hope to continue it.

I also see you're weighing in kgs and not pounds, my bad. Sorry. Keep up the good work on the exercise. I know its hard. Sometimes I just want to say, "forget it!" But the thing is, I know what the scale will say on Monday if I don't exercise.

You have my best!
