I have been LCing for a few weeks now and really got serious about it about 2 weeks ago. I initally started exercising and watching what I ate starting about 5 weeks ago but I didn't lose anything so I, over time, incorporated the low carb way. I have lost 5 pounds and am really happy with that. My problem is that I am trying to do a cardio work out for 45 mintues each day then resistance training and other mscle building exercises after the cardio but I am running out of gas. I only last about 30 minutes of either running or working out on the elliptical machine before I have to quit. I always eat a banana or piece of fruit before I work out but it's just not working. How can I continue to exercise and not feel so worn out while working out?

Thanks,
FlaGirl

You say you've been LCing for a few weeks and really got serious about 2 weeks ago.
1) It takes about 2-3 weeks for most people to fully adapt to ketosis. Therefore, I would assume that the reason your gas tank is running out has to do with your body still trying to switch over from carb burning to fat burning.

You say you are doing 45 minutes of cardio and then you want to do resistance training.
2) My suggestion is that you focus on either cardio or weight training each day rather than trying to do both. Unless you are doing an upper body/ lower body split you shouldn't be training the same body part 2 days in a row. When you lift you cause microscopic tears in the muscles and it takes 48 to 72 hours for them to heal anyway.

You've listed your plan as Atkins. Then in the post you state that you eat an apple or banana before you work out.
3) If you are following Atkins fruit such as apples and bananas aren't allowed until much later in the plan than the first few weeks. I'm therefore a little confused. Also, that may be why you are running out of gas. You aren't allowing your body to fully adapt to ketosis if you keep infusing it with carbs right before you exercise.

I heartily agree with the above, I used to try to do cardio and weight training in each session and recently separated them, now doing only cardio days or only weights days. MUCH better! It made a big difference, both in terms of my stamina at each session and from a psychological standpoint, the workouts are much more enjoyable, not nearly as draining as the previous combo sessions.

Maybe eat something with fat and protein before/after the workouts instead of risking breaking your ketosis with a banana.
