What do you think? Yay or nay on Phase 1? I'd like to make some deviled eggs with it, but I'm not sure. Mayonnaise won't cut it, I need the 'tangy zip of Miracle Whip'.
:)
( Apologies if this has been asked, I've done searches and couldn't find it mentioned )

You can use regular Miracle Whip. Fat free mayos generally have HFCS in them and that is worse that the fat content.
Just watch how much mayo you are using....in other words use as little as possible. ;)
I use the new mayo by Hellmans that is made with olive oil.

Hmm... well now I'm confused. low-fat, fat-free or 1% milk and cheese is ok, but not something like fat-free miracle whip?
I actually have some in the fridge, and it doesn't have HFCS in it, just 'sugar' (2g/tbsp) as does the regular mayo I have in there too.
What about bottled salad dressings, does it matter whether they're 'light' or not, or just as long as they have less than 3 grams of sugar per serving?
Lucky for me I'm not starting this til Monday, I definitely need to find out more!

Most lite dressings make up for the fat loss with sugar of some form , so u just have to read everything.
The lower fat cheeses dont. And the sugar in the nutritional information chart in the cheeses is the naturally occuring sugars from the milk.

I printed out the food lists, but just came across the one in the March thread last night. I've never thought of Miracle Whip and mayo as the same thing... cause MW is sweet and 'zippy'. For this purpose (on the SBD), are they considered the same? And if I have a choice between 'calorie-wise' and fat free MW, which would be the better idea?

Please list ingredients for each and I'll show you how to make these determinations. :)

whoops, you said ingredients... just a sec!
Can't find the ingredients online for the Calorie Wise stuff. I also checked the Kraft Canada and Kraft (US) sites... nothing. I did notice that in the US it's called "Light" not calorie wise, and "free", not fat free.
Here's the ingredients for the Fat Free kind, because I actually have some. It contains:
water, sugar, mod. corn starch, vinegar, soybean oil, salt, egg yolks, citric acid, fruit pectin, xanthan gum, colour, lactic acid, potassium sorbate, mustard, spices/seasonings, calcium chloride, calcium disodium EDTA, dried garlic, flavour (B214F)
don't know if that helps at all :daze:

Being that sugar and mod corn starch are the second and third ingredients, then I'm sorry to have to tell you that Miracle Whip is not an acceptable spread to use while on SBD phase I or II. When you reach your goal and want to use it, then it is your own choice.
The main difference between Miracle Whip and mayonnaise are the sweeteners: high-fructose corn syrup and sugar are the fourth and fifth ingredients, respectively, of Miracle Whip.

Miracle Whip is a unique product. It does seem to start out much like mayonnaise, but has additional sugar and vinegar, which defines it as a salad dressing. (mayo has no sugar, or a tiny amount) I've tried and failed to duplicate it my own kitchen.

It seems unanimous that Miracle Whip uses sugars in their mayo....
My personal rule of thumb re: sugar, that I learned when I followed the FAA food plan, is that if sugar is the 5th ingredient or lower, then its acceptable. But 2nd and 3rd, is just not.
Sorry!!! :(

The first time I went to the store (I had to, there was literally nothing I could eat in the house when I started the diet), I read ALL the labels & sure enough the brands suggested in the book were definately for a reason. I would suggest trying Hellman's Light. While it's not Miracle Whip, it fits the diet. I make tuna salad with it. Good luck.

You'd do better with regular and not the lite as it does contain HFCS.
Welcome...by the way!! :D

oh I love it FOR that reason! Maybe a little splenda sprinkled in my mayo will do the trick? :Puke:
