So quite frequently I get an iced soy latte with sugar free vanilla syrup. They are so delicious. Anyway, this weekend I went to the Starbucks that is in our local Target and as the guy was making my drink I realized he was using vanilla soy. I stopped him and said "excuse me, can you please use plain?". he told me that they always use the vanilla. I read the back of the carton and it was no big suprise that there is 13g of sugar per serving. He kindly made my drink over using skim milk. I left feeling fooled. When someone orders a "sugar free" drink, you'd think the person behind the counter would mention that they are using vanilla. When I think back, I can clearly see that the first time I had one of these delicious concoctions back in august, was the first week I had a gain. You've been warned.

I despise Starbucks.
They are simply WEIRD.
Last spring, when their sales first started plummeting, I happened one evening to order a cappacino, which was a big mistake. Within a couple hours, it was obvious to me that they had used BAD milk.
BAD milk.
For a FOUR DOLLAR beverage, they use milk that had been sitting out all day????????
Make me SO ill that I was vomiting ALL night long?
I was too embarressed to call the Health Department, and tell them how ill that miserable disgusting cappicino made me, as I'd been going to that Starbucks for over a decade.
And in the last six months, constantly, over & over & over & over again, on CNBC, they keep yakking about the price of Starbucks' stock shares, and how they're falling, falling, falling --- well, NO wonder!!
They are SO cheap, that a year ago they left ice, AN INCH THICK OF ICE in front of their store, and I had a serious fall .... and they must be absolutely lousy to work for, as it's obvious that only few people ever stay for more than half a year. WHY would any business leave that much ice in front of their store, and watch for hours as people slipped all over??
Starbucks is disgusting.
EACH person working for them has their OWN individual way to make the different drinks, so you have NO idea what it will taste like -- each person's recipe is DIFFERENT -- there is NO consistency, NO quality control.
FOUR DOLLARS, and no idea whether it will be drinkable?
When I first started buying Starbucks 20 years ago, each & every single item was superb --- this recent version is a characature of the original.

Sorry, I've just NEVER understood the concept of a $4 cup of coffee. Never. Even if someone says it's the convenience factor, Mickey D's drive-thru coffee is a buck!

You'd think they'd post some kind of nutritional info pamphlet for their customers? I really don't know, I rarely visit Starbuck's.

I have to admit I only went there when hubby was given a gift card.
Not sure if I'd go there now knowing it might not be sf, or with sour milk.
I go to the gas station use my own cup, make it myself using their sf syrups. The cost is almost the same at all the stations the average cost is 75 cents.
The best part is most stations offer the coffee club card so after 10 cups the 11th is free.
Yes I'm cheap. :D

The trick with Starbucks is not to get anything "fancy" because they ALWAYS screw it up.
I discovered only yesterday that they now offer coffee in a French Press that serves 2 people. The whole thing was under four dollars CDN.
DELICIOUS. Lots of crema on top and I had mine with Splenda and cream.

Starbucks is my favorite. Without my daily 'Redeye' I would be grazing in forbidden pastures. I do allow about 1/4 cup of whatever soy they wish to use. It hasn't stopped me from losing 70 lbs, but that's another story!

Ok...born and raised Seattlelite....Starbucks on every corner. I do visit from time to time but since starting this WOL I don't bother. Once I get into maintance phase I may go back for my breve but I agree. Paying that much for coffee is really stupid. But I did it all the time!

I too love Starbucks. I get the red-eye too!! ha, ha.. but no soy milk, just heavy cream :)
Starbucks has very specific training for employees but at the end of the day people can easily get lazy and do things the wrong way. Not to mention, I think it's each of our responsibility to question what's going into our drinks/food. When I go to a restaurant I always ask questions if I have any doubts as to what may or may not be in my food. The Starbucks barista is trained to make your drink as ordered... People order the craziest things that don't make sense, i.e. fat-free latte with whip cream.. ?!?!? Believe me I'm not defending anyone, just trying to shed some light...

I always watch what these people do behind the counter. Ive asked for sugar free syrups before and have seen them put regular syrup in...when they hand it to me I just demand they remake it! my friends think im crazy for watching so closley...but hey, its going in my body!

I love Starbucks, but I am very specific about what I want and the people at the local store I go to know that. I have never had a problem with something not being made like I ordered it. While traveling I have seen some Starbucks that are set up where it is hard to watch them make them, but I have also asked questions while they were making mine. I don't mind paying the price for it if I get what I want.

The soy hot cocoa that they then put whipped cream on is the one that has always left me in disbelief. Starbucks is the only place I have ever actually returned food I have taken a bite into, because it was so clearly not food and just chemical grossness.
