Starts with fever, scratchy throat and dry cough. I was so sick for a whole day I didn't have the strength to eat or even make a cup of coffee. I have had the "flu shot." I credit Zicam gel, and my stronger than normal immune system for saving me a hospital visit.
Watch out for this one, I got over the acute effects in a day and a half, but because its so aggressive it may be killer.

Sounds like the virus I had 6 weeks or so ago. I'm still trying to fight off the sinus infection it left me with.

Zicam, Zicam, early on then try Airborne tablets in hot water and a paleo diet with Intermittent Fasting (If)!
I didn't eat much, just some veggie soup, cabbage, red wine and Swiss cheese for one day.
I am so strong already I am going to lift weights tonight-- I already went biking and hiking with the dog this morning-- my recovery, it is amazing.
I should write a book!Let’s engage in a sort of thought experiment. Let’s assume that way back in the early days of medicine doctors always wanted to see us cough up mucus from our lungs. Since mucus is a kind of breeding ground for all kinds of nasty bacteria, it would make sense in the olden, pre-antibiotic days to want patients to hack up as much of this stuff as possible to get it out of the body where the bacteria could no longer wreak their havoc.
Let’s assume that doctors of old–who didn’t realize that the excess mucus was the body’s way of ridding itself of something foreign, i.e., the bacteria or viruses causing the infection–started equating coughing up ‘healthy’ amounts of mucus with good health. It’s not too far a leap to imagine these doctors supposing that if they could get their patients to cough up stuff all the time, the respiratory system would stay clear of the mucus that harbors all the pathogens that cause lung problems. Druggists might come up with concoctions that would cause people to cough, even if they didn’t need to.
Now let’s imagine that the idea that coughing up large amounts of mucus-laden sputum reaches the point of a national obsession. People, especially the elderly for whom respiratory infections are much more dangerous, discuss with one another how much sputum they produce and how often. If they don’t cough as much or as productively as they perceive those around them are doing, they go to their doctors who prescribe a sputum inducing medicine for them. People everywhere are obsessed with keeping their respiratory systems clean.
Now, someone comes along and says, Hey, world, I’ve got the perfect product to keep everyone coughing productively. Use my product and before you know it you’ll be coughing your head off and ridding your lungs of all kinds of nasty junk. Here, try one of these. It’s called a cigarette.I think the same can be said about "Healthy Fibre" in the diet:

I am feeling somewhat better, losing sleep due to a cough. One unexpected thing that helps is my new e-cigarette, its an menthol cartridge and works like a nebulizer I guess. After I use it in the am I cough up more phlem-- they are not harmfull like regular tobacco, and can come without nicotine (just menthol) if desired.

High dose D in the amounts you are speaking of might be responsible for your inability to sleep. Your serotonin might be too high for you to have natural slumber.
I used to take between 12,000 -25,000 IUs of Vit.D whenever I felt I was coming down with something, and occasionally would have a 48 hour period with extreme wakefulness.
I didn't know until this forum that Vit.D requires magnesium, something that I cannot supplement with -- so I will never take high dose D ever again. On TV a couple nights ago, they mentioned that can't even figure out whether they are measuring it correctly or not, it is simply way too controversial.
Anyway, your sleep doc would be interested to learn about your Vit.D intake, as it can disrupt sleep patterns big time.

Your skin makes something like a maximum of 10,000 IU from the sun exposure, if long enough, and then it stops making any more.
People who have 'religiousy' been taking 5000 IU daily, and then like the online "experts" take 12, 15, 20, 25, or even 30 thousand IUs for a few days to make sure they don't get the flu or catch a cold can have EXCESS Vitamin D.
The Vitamin D your skin makes stays around 10,000 IU daily -- but only if you are out long enough.
I've not had the flu in many years, but who knows what else I've done to my body with all the excess D plus it's creating a massive magnesium deficiency, plus who knows what all else.

I stop breathing every couple of minutes when I sleep. I've had it for years. Way before I started supplementing with vitamin D.
I'm well aware vitamin D can disrupt sleep if taken too late in the day. I generally take mine around 5 am and never after 12.

Your skin makes something like a maximum of 10,000 IU from the sun exposure, if long enough, and then it stops making any more.Actually that's not true. The skin can make 20,000 IU of vitamin D during 20-30 minutes of sitting naked in the noon day sun, depending on skin tone, age, etc. However, while your body won't make more than that at a time, since whatever you make needs some time to be absorbed into your body, the skin is capable of making another 20,000 IUs that same day if it needs to and circumstances allow.
The body does have an innate mechanism that protects against toxicity from sun generated vitamin D. If it doesn't need any more, it won't make any more.

I love the way the sun makes me feel - it's just wonderful. And I despise the way that High Dose D felt, and wish that I'd never researched it online. I had NO idea that I was exhibiting symtoms of hypercalcemia for at least a year. NO more Vit.D for me.

So what kind of Vitamin D is best? I've taken too much in the past and it caused things like headaches and tinnitus.
I've considered picking up some colostrum supplements at my local health food store this week - does anyone take that for their immune system?

I won't take supplemental Vitamin D, either - it's been making me sick for years. Here's an article which may interest you:
