Im eating peanuts for snacks now. It satisfies my cravings for chips as well as keeps me busy shelling them. Is this ok? Or bad news.

Well, if peanuts don't disrupt your health or weight loss, and if eating them meets your own definition of "atkins loosely", then it sounds like it works for you. If you're just starting, or restarting, low-carbing, you may find that over time you just lose your interest in snacking. I bought some pork rinds a couple of weeks ago - I used to enjoy them, and now they just sit there. You'll do fine.

Since you are not following Atkins, just using it as a guide, I would say peanuts are fine. I tend to alternate Atkins with my own plan, and when on my own plan, I like to eat sunflower seeds for a snack for the exact reasons you give for enjoying peanuts. :)
