Hello i was just wandering has anyone on the website tried the body for life challenge from Bill Phillps. I know that this is a low carb web post but this is also a low carb diet and in has a exercise plan also. I just got the book and i wanted to start the 12 week challenge that he presents but also wanted to get some feedback on some one that is trying or has already done it. I lost about 23 pounds on Atkins but would like to move on and gain muscle tone and lose fat because i am not doing that on the atkins i mean i am looking thin but a sloppy thin look which is not what i want. Any info. would help a great deal. Thanks.

Linet, check out the BFL subforum off the main Exercise forum - many of us are doing BFL w/ LC nutrition and a few are doing it by the book. There are also a few gym logs kept by BFLers with workouts and results contained therein.
Cheers,

I'd just add that BFL, as written, is NOT a low-carb diet. In fact the folks at EAS and the BFL hotline are pretty adamant about that. Now, Phillips certainly points out that the average person consumes way too many carbs - particularly from grains and sugar - but he recommends that people eat basically equal amounts of protein and carbs and observe a low-fat lifestyle. So while there are aspects of the low-carb philosophy in his approach, there are also significant deviations.
Some day I would really like to find out what Bill Phillips himself feels about low-carb. His book appears to dance at the edge of the issue and perhaps that is out of concern of not appealing to the mainstream. His website and the support folks there are probably very much part of that mainstream.

Linet,
"sloppy thin" omg, hahahaha, I'm still laughing at your wording, but how aptly described!!! I too, am feeling "sloppy" and am anxiously awaiting my day 1 BFL challenge, TOMORROW, YAY!
Hey wbahn, you start tomorrow too don't you? We're gonna be buff!
Nice to meet you Linet, good luck with your bfl challenge! Hope to hear more from you.

You're right, of course, Bill. But "technically" BFL is considered LC - it is lower carb than recommended by the USDA (60%) and if the line is to be drawn with programs like the Zone (40% carbs) then this program certainly falls w/in those paramaters.
I'd be interested as well in finding out what Mr. Phillips thinks about a more LC approach to his program. I am looking forward to letting some of my friends over at the "as written" bbs know just how I achieved my transformation, as well ;)

Mmmm....good point. Perhaps The Zone and BLF should be called MC - moderate carb.
I'm going to try to see if I can get Bill Phillips to be a guest presentor for some of the awards at our National Cadet Competition coming up in July. Long shot, but if I pull that off, I certainly plan to talk to him about LC'ing it.
