I have just got back from the endocrinologist as I got referred because my doctor said a dawn effect of 8 (140) and a hangover period until lunchtime was fine as my A1C was 5.5.
Specialist says the same thing and in fact told me not to worry about my diabetes but to take an ace inhibitor to get my blood pressure down from 142/94! (Anyone know of a cure for high blood pressure that doesnt involve medication?)
Tried Berberine and it has helped but more so post prandial than overnight and its true, it is inconsistent- works for a while and then stops for some reason.
She said if we had Glucophage ER in this country, she would prescribe it but we dont. So I'd like to get it in the States but dont know where to start in looking for a reliable online pharmacy. She said spikes are not particularly harmful and that hypos are significantly more harmful so in my case the potential harm from taking drugs that might result in a hypo probably outweighs the good.
Other things she said - tissue damage doesnt start at 7.7 and that insulin does not drive imflammation (ergo dont worry overly about it) but insulin resistance does and that this occurs at the cellular level. (This is not at all what I thought so does anyone know if this is correct?)
What do you think? I dont like being at 140 or am I just stressing too much?

international pharmacies:
www.urantiapharma.com
www.goldpharma.com
I have used both with good results.
Bear in mind shipping time-about 3 weeks to USA.Not sure
about other places.
Hope this helps

You might try taking potassium for the BP. For me staying low carb keeps it good. Carbs drive my BP higher. So cheating is really bad. Not everyone has it so easy with BP though.

Thanks Eddie - Urantia carries it and it is not too expensive. I am not put off by the fact it ships from India as there has been a lot of publicity recently about the fact most of our publicly funded (and some big brand name) medicines are manufactured there. So I figure its hopefully no more risky than getting a script from the GP.
Yes I have some pottassium/magnesium which I take from time to time to stop cramps which I tend to get while lo-carbing so I will make it a daily thing. I also came across another post on blood pressure over on the heart disease forum and am hitting the Ubiquinol and fish oil as well. Many of the posters had similarly highish blood pressure and they all seem to have got it down to 100ish over 60ish with supplements + lo-carb.
Unfortunately it is the only thing that hasnt been affected by lo-carbing and hasnt moved at all but I cant complain as everything else has improved heaps! Even my 140 dawn effect is better than the 150 it was a year ago.

I have had very good luck with ubiquinol-100 mg per day keeps
my BP in the ideal range.LC never had any effect on BP.
Fish oil provided no obvious benefits.

Eddie - That stuff is so expensive. Is it really that much better than CoQ10?

"Eddie - That stuff is so expensive. Is it really that much better than CoQ10?"
Some studies show that Ubiquinol has about 600 percent the absorption rate of COQ10.200 mg of COQ10 per day produced no
obvious benefits for me.www.swansonvitamins.com seems to have cheapest Ubiquinol but, even at that,it's not cheap. All I can say for sure is that it has lowered my BP and stopped my left hand shakes.I'm not saying that it will work for everyone.

Thanks for the speedy reply Eddie. As I am taking 400mg of CoQ10 per day...this might be just a bit more $. I will give it a try when I re-order my supps. (BTW - I have found iherb to be the cheapest...they even offer volume discounts and free shipping). Thanks again.

I'll check iherb.
400 mg of COQ10 might be sufficient.
You know the routine.Test.Observe.Adjust.
Best wishes

Talking of testing Eddie - how do you do BP? I have started on the supplements but have just been wondering how I will know in a month's time whether it is working. Do you go for a regular check or do you have a home device of some kind? If so are they reasonably accurate/ easy to use?

They're fairly inexpensive and pretty accurate. I've had one I use at home for years now.
