I've had hair loss for many years. This type just never stops, so I can't blame it on stress, however, when I have more stress, it just falls out more. My only symptoms are intestinal gas (no stomach reflux) and hair loss. I have diffuse hair loss over my whole head. I'm beginning to think I have candida. I have no skin problems, other than a dry, flakey scalp. Can anyone relate? I'm trying oil of oregano and garlic, and upping my probiotics, and yes, I've been on antibiotics many years ago to treat a case of typhoid which I caught in the Dominican Rep. cathybl

Have you had your thyroid checked? I always thought hair loss was a typical symptom of thyroid problems. At least, I remember my MIL having this a few years ago, and one symptom (swollen ankles and weight loss were in there too) was hair loss.

I don't recall reading that hair loss was a typical candida thing.

I'm 51 but I've been losing hair since I was 24 when I changed my diet to a vegetarianism style diet..... I became low in iron.....my iron is up now, I 've supplemented tons, I think I have candida and have had for a while now. I'm not menopausal.

Are you getting enough protein? There's a lot of protein in hair, and if your body isn't getting enough protein for more necessary functions, maybe it'll stop feeding your hair.

I'll take some protein supplements and take some protein digestive enzymes. Thanks for your input... I'm also taking extra biotin, just in case it helps. cb

My theory is this: If you think you might have candida, you do.
Have you tried the spit test?

The recent threads about fructose have some interesting information about candida-like problems.

Yes, my spit test isn't that bad.... but I've tons of gas for a long time now and no amount of digestive enzymes seem to help. I have gas gas gas all day long.... it's very embarrassing. that's a sign of candida.cb

You know what, Cathy? I didn't think of this until you mentioned it, but since I've been low-carbing, my gas output has steadily decreased. Give it time.

To capmikee and mela....

thanks for your help. I've checked out the fructose threads and they are very interesting. Maybe I've got a carb digestability problem as well, we'll see what happens.... I've been taking lots of biotin (since that seems to keep candida in check) and some oil of oregano too.... I've definitely reduced my gas, but I think I've got a long way to go yet. I've been so gassy for so long, I don't know what normal is...has anyone heard of laterosporus BOD strain, which seems to help kill candida?cath

Hi Cathyblond,

Did you ever have your thyroid checked?

Yes, I've been on thyroid meds since 2001..... it's not easy finding the right dose..... I'm on 137 mg synthroid. I tried dessicated thyroid,,,,, made no changes, that's why I think there is something else wrong..... my hair is starting to stop falling now...... maybe all that biotin is really helping... :)
