I get a lot out of this board, so I would like to share this:

Try this: 6 oz of fruit and 1 dairy (1 c. milk or yogurt, or 1/2 c. cott ch) at bedtime.

I had an apple and a cup of yogurt at bedtime and my fasting was 110 this morning after being 142 yesterday.

Will see if it holds up. Of course the question is, what was my BG reading 1-2 hours after eating this snack- since I was asleep, I didn't measure.

This "bedtime snack" is part of Kay Sheppard's meal plan, which I have followed in the past. www.kaysheppard.com The plan is not specifically for diabetes- it's meant to control food addiction, but people who follow this plan lose weight and some say it has "cured" their diabetes. (yeah right! but still they say it, so it's worth a look...) It is not low in carbs but eliminates flour, wheat, all forms of sugar and most artificial sweeteners.

6oz fruit with yoghurt would sky rocket my blood glucose. I dont think it can be consistently maintained with this recipe you state. Diabetics and insuline resistent people in general do a lot better on low carb. Try that first if that does not solve dawn phenomenon they try other stuff but I feel low carb is the way to go IMHO anyway

That night time snack depends a lot on the particular fruit and the type of yogurt.

Blueberries with plain soy yogurt would produce much different results then bananas and a low fat yogurt.

Snacking about 2 hours before bedtime and having a little activity (mild exercises) before bedtime might produce better results then eating and going straight to bed.

Sleeping only 7 hours is better than sleeping 9 hours when trying to control dawn phenomena and not going more than 9 or 10 hours between the night snack and breakfast can also help dawn phenomena as opposed to not eating from 6 pm the prior evening and eating breakfast around 8am......

just my thoughts, but there are many ways to improve the DP syndrome and they probably all work when we stick to them consistently... :)
