I would have never guessed that you can make turkey bacon yummy in the microwave. I decided to let the curiosity get the best of me today, I put two slices cut into half (so 4 total pieces) on a plate in the microwave for 2:30 minutes, pulled them out, used a paper towel to soak the juices up. They were SO GOOD! I love my bacon crispy (hubby and I have always eaten turkey bacon) but this is such a better alternative than cooking in oil. And I love that I soak up just that more fat with the paper towel!
PS I did not put the paper towel in the microwave (I have caught stuff on fire before in the microwave so I am way careful lol)

Why doyou avoid the oil? I have read over and over, that oil is good for us and we need it to help feel full and loose weight. Does it taste better, or do you just want to avoid the oil?

I like it a little on the dry side and I prefer to stay away from it as much as possible. Plus I ate too many peanuts yesterday so trying to make up for it (thinking I am already gonna stay on Phase 1 for a week longer).

I'm sorry, I guess I don't understand. The oil is sapposed to help counteract the carbs. I can understand liking it dry though.

I've considered buying turkey bacon as a way to get a little different flavor with my breakfasts. I fear hubby will protest. He's pretty finicky about his bacon!

I have never been able to eat pork, it just makes me sick. Hubby was raised in a household where they did not eat pork for religious reasons, and when we got married he just did not like the idea of eating it for personal reasons. So it was a great thing for us!
I love turkey. We do not eat ground beef but maybe a few times a year. We eat ground turkey, turkey bacon, turkey ham (GREAT for scalloped potatoes!). I love ground turkey, and it is pretty affordable compared to beef. We still eat beef, like roasts and steaks, just not very often.

Hi Jacki! Maybe the confusion is that South Beach limits oils and fats. I see you're on M&E, is that meat & egg? When I was doing Atkins I did M&E (meat & egg) several times to break my stalls.

This is South Beach.....we are very conscious of how much fat/oil, even the good fats, we are taking in becasue we are eating a higher level of carbs in our phase I...we need to control all our fats.

Gee, Don't I feel silly  I am sorry about the confusion. Thank you for setting me straight.
I do like turkey though. I do agree that it is cheaper. I try to substitute it for beef sometimes, but hubby goes shopping with me and he gets growly about using it. I give up the fight.

He doesn't mind when I spend it on beef, pork and chicken. He goes with me because he works midnights and its time together, not because he is watching my spending. In the begining I forced him to go with me because he was complaining about spending. He quickly stopped when he saw prices and how I shop. You have to beat them in the head just so they can learn something!
Do you like your eating plan? I have heard a lot of good things about South Beach. Its very poppular around here.

Yeah, for the most part mine just whines and complains when I hand him the receit lol he has tried doing the whole "I am gonna shop so we can save some money" but he never buys everything we need LOL he has given up. Food is not cheap! I remind him that is why we do not live in northern Michigan anymore (we were living on $7 an hour when we first got married).
I do like my eating plan, I have lost 7 pounds in 9 days.. I truly believe it would have been 9 had I not eaten a lot of junk Saturday. All of that with no real exercise plan (I walk when I feel like it) First few days without carbs and sugar were hell.. but I am over it now!

Ya, I found the first few days are really hard. I've had a problem with binging, I'm trying to get past that now. Binged yesterday, now through ... next Sat will be tough. After that its not to bad. I found in the begining, the cravings were killers. I finnally started a canadida yeast program. It helped drasticly!
I'm glad you like you plan. Can't stick with it if you don't like it!

I haven't eaten turkey bacon in years, not since it first came out on the market. Can anyone recommend a brand? I don't like eating bacon much because its really just a fat and I prefer getting meat and fat together, but if turkey bacon now tastes good (believe me, it didn't then) and I can make it crispy then I wanna try it!

I buy the cheap brand at Aldis. I like turkey bacon. I just might buy some next time. Hubby has been eating sausage anyway, he really can't complain. Plus its cheaper!!

I started reading this thread because I LOVE turkey bacon microwaved - if you microwave until hard, it's almost like a meat "chip". Sounds gross, but tastes great! Then I was relieved to see that other people have the same issues at home with how much money is spent on groceries. I've recently been questioned on it at it drives me nuts! I'm careful about what I spend and only buy what we need. If I left it up to him, we'd be eating pop-tarts for dinner and be totally unhealthy. Thanks for a good laugh. I'm glad to find out I'm not the only one going through it.
