I 've just been reading about Acai berry and it's benefits. Anyone try it? Or does anyone know any good supplements to take? I have been trying coconut oil.

I was doing green tea, but then noticed all the extra junk in the pills. I am gonna try to find some at the health food store.

HI and welcome!
I'm sorry to have to tell you this but we do not use coconut oil on SB as it is very high in sat fat...and that means a lot of calories that we like use up in good carbs.
Coconut Milk -Light - Added
this was just added to our food lists in the Supercharged book.
I do not know about the acai berry. sorry!
If you eat according to the meal plan chats and follow the food lists, you will not need to supplement your weight loss with pills.
I do take a whole bunch of supplements though....salmon oil, D3, potassium, calcium, magnesium, a multi....and Estroven for my menopause.
Are you having trouble seeing weight loss?

Thanks all for replying. Yes, I am having trouble getting started. I am hypothyroid--going to a specialist on the 6th of Aug, have two kids (9 and 2), and I just picked 11 dozen of ambrosia sweet corn out of the garden. I'd been slowing trying to cut out carbs, trying different supplements. I had my gallbladder removed 7 yrs ago, but still light oils such as ev olive makes me sick. I don't fry things often, but when I do, I find that coconut oil does not make me sick or cause me any acid reflux. I used to drink hot green tea, will have to get back in that habit. I taking the following supplements: black cohosh (to deal with hot flashes even though I'm 34), calcium/D3/magnesium complex, one a day for women, selenium ( to help thyroid problems), and when i can think about it a candida cleanse (got to get that problem checked out too, and soon!). I don't drink sodas, only decaf tea, coffee, and mostly water. Don't smoke or drink.
Didn't mean to write a book, but you get a better picture that way.

When you say that you are "trying to cut out carbs", what does this mean to you? You have candida? Do you eat wheat?

Judy,
What i mean by cutting out carbs--like trying to omit pasta/breads from dinners, if I eat out, i take off one piece of bread from a sandwich, no crackers or croutons on a salad.
Yes, I believe i have candida overgrowth. For the last 2 yrs, I have gone to my dr and gyn., have taken diflucan and premarin. Symtoms would ease somewhat and then would come right back. After my endocrinologist appt., I plan on trying a different gynecologist--a better rated one for my area.
Wheat? Yes, when I do eat bread, it has been nature's own wheat with double fiber. It's bread, I know and shouldn't eat it. What's wrong with wheat-I thought that was "healthy"?

Many find that wheat can be an issue with candida..... so if you can cut it out completely for 2 weeks, see how your candida is then....OK?
and it will help your weight loss too to get rid of the flour.
I avoid wheat 99% of the time...I eat rye instead when I want a WASA crispbread. Once in a while, I'll have a real bagel...but not wheat:nono:...I have pumpernickel, which is also rye.

You're welcome. I think for the average person a little bit of pumpernickel bread now and then isnt a problem....it becomes a problem when its a daily thing imho. Of course for some though anything with gluten is off limits (darn celiac disease), and unfortunately thats me (pumpernickel was my favorite growing up...).

ITA!! :agree: for people wo are not afflicted with health problems that would stop them from eating grain/flour....its OK, just not every day!!
Sorry you can't have it any longer. :(

Thank you to all who have replied. I will try cutting out the wheat. I was unaware how it affected candida. Curious how my endocrinologist appt. will go next Wed. Hope she can help with my thyroid problems. Have a great weekend everyone!!!

I'm sure if you google candida and wheat at the same time, you'll find lots of info. You should ask the endo doctor about this too.... :agree:
here is just one:
Most nutritionists agree that any good candida diet should reduce as much as possible processed sugar, yeast, dairy, wheat, caffeine, nicotine and alcohol. They are the main culprits because they help candida yeast to grow. Another important consideration is to prevent unintentional ingestion of mold fungi, it is recommended that you disinfect fruit, vegetables, and salad in a grapefruit seed extract water solution for 10 minutes.

Wheat in moderation is healthy, but it has to be whole wheat with the germ still intact. Also, unless you are buying your bread from the health food store or making it yourself there are probably not stone ground or contain other ingredients which diminish the nutrients.

Hello and Welcome!
FYI-
For many people, wheat, even whole wheat, is not a good choice. Celiacs can't eat it as they are allergic to the gluten. Those with candida avoid it due to fact the yeast overgrowth is encouraged by wheat.
Many women in peri-menopause and menopause, also avoid gluten due to the fact that we seem to not handle it well after 40 yrs of age. That is according to Dr. Christiane Northrup who wrote the famous book, The Wisdom of Menopause.
Thanks for sharing your opinion with us! :D
