Have any of you mommies experienced this? I have an appointment tomorrow and I will bring this issue up. My sciatica has been flaring up horribly lately, to the point where im feeling almost crippled. It started a few weeks ago, just being an occasional pain but mostly tolerable, but has become increasingly painful and hurts almost non-stop. It is making walking/driving difficult, and bending/twisting/lifting downright impossible. Im wondering if any of you have suggestions for relief. I have in the past seen a physical therapist for this issue (but not while prego), and still have my lists of stretches and exercises, but they are not helping at all this time around. Im wondering what my DR can give me for relief, and most of all, how on earth do i survive 4 more months of this?? I quit my job this week because it is pretty physically demanding and I just could not do it anymore. Im sorry if I sound like a wuss. Any tips for relief would be appreciated.

Please, someone give me some good news?

See a chiropacter experienced in treating pregnant woman - I got complete relief after a few sessions. Try www.icpa4kids.org to find someone who works on pregnant women.

You took the words (and the link) right out of my mouth!

The only thing I can add is that the website doesn't have a complete list of practitioners- my chiropractor (who I started seeing when I was pg with DS and now adjusts all 4 of us) isn't on that list, or at least she wasnt' the last time I checked.

If there isn't anybody near you based on the "find a practitioner" link on the ICPA website, don't despair. You can call chiropractors from the phone book and ask about their experience with pg women. You can call somebody from the website and ask if they know somebody closer to your area. Or your OB or midwife might have a recomendation for you- I found my chiro because my MW gave me her name.

YES CHIROPRACTIC!!! I herniated 2 disc in my back at 3 months pregnant, HORRIBLE sciatica!!! Couldn't work for 5 weeks! Walking a few short steps with massive pain and then down on the floor, etc...only thing that helped was chiropractic and drink your WATER!!! :) yes I know I sound like every Mother out there, but hydration is what fills your discs and keeps them full of fluid! No fluid (or low fluid) = recipe for injury.

Trust me. Was horribly painful.

THANKS LADIES!!! ya know, i'm happy to hear the advice and I will look for a chiropractor, but most of all i'm just happy to know that others have felt my pain, and that its not all in my head! I cannot believe how badly this hurts, and how crippling it is! I had a OB appt today and my Dr gave me a back brace as well, and gave me a note excusing me from work (I quit on monday). I do need to work on my water intake lately, that will help also.

Oh man...I had that too. Thankfully it didn't last long because I couldn't function!

It was really scary because I had my daughter to look after and my husband was out of town.

When I was pregnant with DS, I had some minor sciatica that came and went....one thing that helped was to lie on the floor, back straight (neutral), with my legs up on the couch (knees bent so my calves were actually on the seat of the couch and my thighs were lined up against the couch).

Until you can get to a chiropractor, you may want to give that a try to see if it helps!

thanks girls, it does seem to help to lay flat on my back and pull up my knees to my chest (ha, as much as my belly will let me).....but it is kinda scary at times, with a 3.5 yr old and my husband is gone for about 4 more weeks, and everyday chores are definitely harder to do. but, I start seeing a physical therapist this week that I have had great success with in the past. She is amazing, so i'm hoping it helps. Sadly, my insurance doesnt cover chiropractors, and i just cant afford the out of pocket expense.

soon this pain will be a distant memory, and I will have this baby in my arms, WHOO HOO!!!! :D
