Hi, new to Sb and I am currently reading Sb. Of course I noticed reading post here and on another board that there has been changes in the phase 1 part of the diet. I have been trying to find a way to control my reactive hypoglycema (which I can not spell) I do know that LC works, but have a hard time staying on the plans. After doing alot of reading, I started playing around with the Low Glycemic Index food list (less than 55) that have little impact on insulin. I was very surprised to see M&Ms (peanut) and Snickers bars on the list. So mind you I am messing around and eating pretty much off the list (provied by the SB website) and was really surprised that I could eat a pkg of M&Ms (peanut) or a snickers bar as a snack or times a meal (I know not good) and feel full and not send me through the roof on an eating binge. Now this is what brought me to buying the book (I still would like to loose 10 lbs) Vanity issue. So if one of you kind people would take a look at my breakfast and give some feed back that would be great and thank you.

Welcome!

Your breakfast is fine!! Good job!

M&Ms and Snicker bars that have sugar in them, are not good choices for those of us who do follow SBD. While you may not be having issues with them triggering you, we are allowed 75-100 calories a day of a sweet treat. In the early phases, we can have No sugar added fudgsicles. 2 a day!! :yum:

Now that I'm maintaining, I've incorporated real dark chocolate into my food plan as my sweet treat in the evening. I eat Lindt 85% dk...or Vivani 85% dark which is very low in sugar and high in fiber. I eat 1/2 of a serving and keep it to 100 cals.

There is an updated food list and meal plan chart on the first page of my journal. Feel free to print it all off to use as reference.

Good Luck!!

Hey Cheryl,

As I diabetic I can tell you with no uncertainty that M&Ms and Snickers have a huge impact on insulin, not to mention your weight. I have hypos from time to time and I treat them with glucose tablets. One glucose tablet will quickly bring your blood sugar to normal and it has only 15 calories.

The best way to avoid hypoglycemia is to never eat sugar and stay on plan. South Beach has a wide selection of food to choose from with healthy carbs too. I hope it works for you!

Judynyc Thank you for the quick response. yea I know that the M&Ms and Snicker bars are a no no and will maybe have them later in maintance as a treat every now and then  But it is nice to know I can have them with out the bad cravings hitting me. Going to your journal now to check out the updated list.
1 quick question dairy in phase 1 is allowed? Thank you again

susan your right on the sugar, But I am having a hard time getting a grip on this. Found out about 3 years ago about the reactive hypoglycemia, and have been trying to control it since. My doctor told me 6 meals a day, but never mention anything about food choses. so by trial and error found lc controls it. 6 meals of regular foods sent me off into starving land and then sleep and back to starving. One big circle of hell. So I am really hoping this works. thank you so much for your response
