I know there have been topics on this before, but my search turned up nothing. I have been on and off Atkins and more recently South Beach for about 2-3 years. Overall, I've broken even with the weight, and I'm possible even a little heavier. I'll have 6 month or so periods where I do great, and then 2 or 3 months where I don't care. I started back on low carb a few weeks ago and even factored in exercise this time, but I haven't lost a single pound!! All the other times I've done low carb the pounds melted off immediately. Is there a point where low carb no longer works? And more importantly, WHY?? Anyone else go through this? What did you do to get the weight off again?

I'm sorry that you are having trouble seeing weight loss. :(
IMO and IME, there should not be a time when this does not work no matter how many times you've used it for weight loss.
For me, I know that it took me way longer than 6 months to lose my 120 lbs. It actually was 20 months of consistent focus and dedication...hard work that has paid off for me in a very big way!! And now, I"m maintainaing my loss for almost 3 yrs now. I will not return to my old eating habits as then I will gain it back. Its a way of eating for life for me. :agree:
Have you found the food lists and meal plan charts? Do you follow them? What have you been eating? Care to post menus so that I can help you? Have you read the South Beach book?

As you age your hormones change. Since hormones are driving your bodies holding on to or burning fat, it can get a lot harder.
Just remember, whether or not you lose any weight, eliminating refined foods from your diet WILL make you healthier.
I have a feeling that, if you keep "falling off the wagon" after a few months, there is some underlying issue that isn't being addressed (messed up thyroid? Undiagnosed food allergy?). You could also be depleting your body of a vitamin, mineral or essential fatty acid when you low carb. You may want to look in to supplementing with fish oil and vitamin d3.

I'd have to say its all about balance. It works if you work at it.
I'm not at goal and I know what I've done as to why I'm not there. I've added back in too many extra, vacations, eating out, minor health issues.
But I've maintained for the most part. I know what I need to do to get my body to lose. I have to stick very close to plan to keep the scales moving.
As stated previously take a look at your meals are they on plan? Do you "fall off the wagon". Can you figure out why.
Hope you can figure out whats happening that you aren't where you want to be.
I wish you the best. I know SB is a way of life for me.
Good Luck.
