My 17 yo daughter and I are making plans to start the SBD. She needs to lose about 25, I need to lose more. She's much more active than I am, especially during the school year. In the summer, not so much, but she is still dancing about five hours a week, and going to the gym a couple of times. She is willing to start with Phase I, but I'm thinking it might be a bit too drastic for her. She loves her sugar way too much, but I don't want her passing out at dance! Any suggestions?

Hi and welcome!
Have you read the SBD book yet?

The food lists and meal plan charts are located on the 1st page of my journal. Please review them as phase I does have a fair a mount(about 60 grams a day but we don't count) of good carbs available.

See how your daughter does for a few days and if she feels too ill, she can always have a piece of fruit and or oatmeal before she dances...but No Sugar allowed!! ;)

My 11 1/2 yr old daughter informed me today that she was going to start eating healthier. I asked her what her idea of healthier was, her response, "No more junk food and sugar...well, not so much anyway and I want to stop drinking sodas." While she isn't willing to give up all her sugary treats, (nor do I feel she has to, she's very thin and active) that she is interested in limiting these things at such a young age will give her a head start in regards to healthy eating.

Be careful of eating disorders please. It sounds like she has the right idea but keep in mind that her sport puts her at a high-risk for eating disorders.

Not condemning her intentions at all, but it is something that you should keep an eye on. Keep her on the right track and teach an approach which emphasizes adequate nutrition and long-term health.

Yes, we have the book, actually got the new one. No worries so far about eating disorders, she loves to eat! If she loses the amount she wants to, she will still be curvy for a dancer. And that's fine, she's not built to be skinny. We started the first day of Phase I today, and I'm making sure she eats every few hours. She didn't get up until 11, that makes it a little easier, ha. She is going to one ballet class today, so we'll see how she does.
