Hello, I am at the end of my second week of phase II. For the past two weeks I've been eating 1 fruit per day and a 1/2 serving of 85% cocoa chocolate. So far I am still losing at a descent rate. I'm curious as to when other people added in a starch or grain? I have decided, thanks to some friendly forum advice, not to eat grains until the end of August, but a sweet potato now and then could be really delicious.

I think that is a great way to do this.....I enjoy butternut squash as a starch. :yum:

Enjoy your sweet potato and keep track of how many times in a week you eat it....while watching that your scale keeps going down!! :cheer:

I have found that its a big food experiment to see what we can eat and how it effects each of our bodies.

When I entered P2, I decided to add in sweet potato first instead of a fruit. I had a serving of swt. potato every 2 or 3 days with my dinner. It didn't have a negative impact on my weight loss, I still averaged 3-5lb losses/wk with it as part of my menu.

Like Judy said, it really is an experiment to see what we can eat and still get the results we want.

Enjoy your sweet potato :yum:

3-5 lbs per week??? That would be amazing. So far in phase II I'm averaging 1.4 weekly. I just stopped breastfeeding completely though so maybe my body will want to let go of its maternal fat stores and I can up my average. Or my loss will slow down since I'm not using as many calories. In any case, I'm just happy to see the numbers on the scale going down rather than up.

1.4 lbs a week is right on target....3-5 lbs a week does not sound realistic to me. My average weight loss per week was 1.5 lbs.

You are doing just fine!! :agree:

Not realistic to expect to lose that much per week...nor typical, just what was happening to me during my first month and a half on SB.

Boy, what I wouldn't give for just one of those weeks right about now. Where's the Woosh Fairy when you need her?

Thanks for that clarification Renee! :agree:

How many weeks did you see that kind of loss? What has been your overall average loss per week?

Wow, you two are great. I You're like my own personal diet coaches. Hopefully you'll see me on this board for a very long time to come.

I averaged 2.25 lbs per week up until I stalled out in November. It's taken me from then until now to lose from 155 to 145 and that 10lbs in fits and starts.

Y'know, it's really interesting going back and looking at my daily/weekly/monthly numbers after a yr. It shows just how up and down and even sideways the journey is. So not a linear path!

Jmr, I really do hope to see you here for a long time! There's so much information and support to be had here. I know it's what's enabled me to stay on track and get to where I am today :agree:

I do a South Beach thread on another forum and would love to join yours too. I bought the SB SuperCharged book the day it came out but just started to read it on Thursday.

My DM80 was in a horrible accident on June 6 in which she lost her sister (79). A guy in a heating/ac van rearended her and she went across the median (on an interstate) and into oncoming traffic and hit another car. I'm looking to find a diet that I can do when I'm at the rehab facility with her and one that I can take my dinner to and eat with her. I did WW but got tired of counting the points, but I still go to the meetings for the weigh in and "shot in the arm" that I get from the meetings. They have a core program that is somewhat similar to SB so I will still fit in there.

Rebecca A, I'm so sorry to hear about the accident and I hope your mothers physical recovery is a speedy one. I see no problem doing the South Beach diet wherever I go. I've even made it through big parties eating this way just by sticking to things like cheese and veggie platter, hummus and nuts. Good luck. You'll do great!

OMG, I didn't gain this week, I lost 1.4 this week. I gained 1.4 last week, so at least I'm back where I started before last week. That's 19 pounds total since Christmas, and in October I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. The doc said that if I hadn't I probably would have doubled that, so he says be happy that I'm losing (but I want more, don't we always want more). I have to figure out how to get past the 19 pound mark, I go up and down and up and down, I'm self-sabotaging myself, I know why, I'm scared to get thin again. I know that's crazy but I am and I know what I'm doing, so I just have to figure out how to get away from that.

talk to you guys later tonight.
