With my increase in exercise I've been looking into adding some supplements to my diet. Along the way I discovered quite a bit of information on Multi Vitamins.
I've always taken a Centrum or the store brand equivalent. But I read a lot about how the pills have a lot of unnecessary ingredients that could be detrimental to the absorption of the vitamins as well as possibly railroading my diet. Most the multiples include ingredients such as sugar, salt, yeast, wheat, gluten, milk, egg, shellfish and preservatives. A lot of stuff I just don't want to be putting in my body.
So I started looking around and reading some body building websites and I found a multi vitamin called Adam by a health and supplement company named Now Foods. They also have a womens version called Eve. Instead of pill form, the vitamin comes in a vegetable polysaccharide capsule. They claim it's "formulated to contain the lowest levels of these unneeded additional ingredients, leaving more room for higher levels of the nutrients men need to maintain optimum health."
I can tell a difference. I've been taking the vitamins for about a week and they do sit better on my stomach. It's still too early to tell about all the other stuff but they do contain much more than a traditional multiple. Just so you know this is not just an ad, GNC's Mega-Man is a similar vitamin for men with a lot of loyal users.
Here's what's inside.....
* with Saw Palmetto, Lycopene, Lutein, CoQ10, ZMA® & Ginkgo Biloba

* Contains 10,000 IU beta carotene from a vegetarian source, with mixed carotenoids

* B-12 as methylcobalamin, the most active co-enzyme form

As for other supplements. I'm going to hold off for now. I considered Whey Protein and Creatine. I read a lot of mixed reviews on Creatine. Some believe in it and some can't tell it's helped them at all. The good thing is it's one of the few inexpensive supplements. Creatine causes your muscles to retain water and thus "feeds" the muscles or allows them to feed better. I'm not just ready to start retaining water. I still have a lot of weight to lose and I'll worry about Creatine if I get slim enough for it to help. I also put Whey protein on the shelf because my low-carb / high protein diet should be supplying my muscles with plenty of protein that I shouldn't need to be supplementing. Again, if I get slim enough i will consider it. But I have a ways to go.
I want to consider myself a "lifter." But I'm not quite there. I'm working on these text 40 pounds or so before I revisit anything more than my good quality multi-vitamin.
