I read about this new sweetener at the CarbWars blog (http://carbwars.blogspot.com/). Sounds good! It's organic erythritol. I have erythritol (forget what brand), and like it - not sure if this one is much different. Imagine it's the processing that's different. Someone who knows more about erythritol could weigh in here (Stuart?)

Wholesome Sweeteners introduced such new products as Organic Zero, which was billed as "a perfect replacement for sugar and artificial sweeteners."

The product, which is suitable for diabetics, dieters and vegetarians, contains zero calories, is ranked zero on the glycemic index and has no artificial or genetically modified organisms (GMO). Organic Zero is 70 percent as sweet as sugar.

NATURAL SUGAR

Organic Zero is made from sugar cane juice which is naturally fermented and crystallized to create what is touted as the first organic erythritol on the market. Organic erythritol is a naturally occurring sugar that is found in fruits, vegetables and fermented foods such as soy sauce and chocolate.

"Organic Zero looks and tastes like sugar because it is made just from sugar," said product spokesman Carlos Arcos as he greeted trade industry representatives at the Natural Foods Expo.

"It is easily digested and parents will be happy to hear that it even reduces plaque buildup that causes tooth decay."

The sweetener is sold in 12-ounce pouches and in individual-use packets. Check it out on the Web site, www.organiczero.com.
