I still have an old torsion spring scale that is pretty bad... I am looking for a decent electronic scale (300 lb or so max is fine) under say $100. I have seen some for $40.00US, too. There are a lot of Healthometer and Tanita out there.

I have done some review searches and always seem to get that one comment that says "weight varies depending where I stand on the scale" or something like that, i.e., no clear winners.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a scale with good precision and accuracy? Brand and model number would be appreciated. I don't particularly need a body fat calculator.

Your experience and recommendations appreciated in advance.

Well I have a Tanita and it seems to have worked fine.

I am having trouble of late, but I believe I just need some good fresh batteries.

If I were to replace it, I would get another Tanita.

Thanks Ralph,

I went ahead and ordered a Tanita BF679W for 50 bucks. It had a ton of reviews (4 out of 5 stars) and almost all the negative comments were regarding the body fat system. BF is important to me but not by a scale measurement as they are notoriously inaccurate from what I read.

I have owned 2 different brands of electronic scales (the one I have now is weightwatchers) & found both of them unreliable. I can step on the scale over & over without moving it & each time get a different weight. Very frustrating.

Hello Cappie,

Some scales are not repeatable.

You must let them rest before getting on them again.

The weight tends to go down.

The importance of a scale is to have a relative measure foremost.

Am I gaining or am I losing?

Get on the scale and do it once in the morning before you have anything to eat in your underwear. This will give you an accurate trend line of your weight over time. If you are maintaining your weight will stay within a 2-5 pound range. If you are losing or gaining you will see that too.

Some of the more "accurate" Doctor scales also differ. This has to do with how often, if ever, are they calibrated. A professional scale should be calibrated now and then.

Depending on a scale to produce an absolute "right on" reading multiple times is not its intended purpose.

You know what I mean.

I am stuck in a tight weight range right now that varies about 2 pounds either way. It is telling me I should start to focus on my weight loss more; I am simply not motivated right now and I know what it takes to start the gentle decline once again.

Best wishes,

Ralph

Thanks Ralph--didn't know that about stepping on a digital scale right away. I do weigh in the morning, after using the toilet & taking my shower. I've stepped on the scale again sometimes because I don't believe what it reads.

/sigh I know what you mean. Especially before lo-carbing I have stepped on the scale a lot of times and didn't believe what it read.

On the plus side, lo-carbing for only a bit over two-months now has been amazing and, in spite of being on insulin, I continue to drop slowly but surely and rarely do I feel hungry after meals. I try to stay <10% C, 20% or so P, and 65% or so F. With my bg's much more normalized, I also have the energy to exercise which helps I suspect.

if you weigh everyday I would chart. That way you can toss the outlier readings. I try to not weigh more than every few weeks. Of course I could get an 'outlier' reading too!

I have been lo carbing for over 6 yrs--since being diagnosed T2. I lost over 160 lbs quite easily in the beginning--took me about 18 months.
Recently I've gained some back & am working to get it off again because I invested in quite a lot of new clothes & now can't get into them. What started me gaining was trying Taube's theories for a month--I gained 10 lbs & my appetite raged out of control. Unfortunately when I eat fat, I crave MORE & MORE fat. The only thing that satisfies & quiets my hunger is protein.

My bg's & A1c never slipped despite the gained weight fortunately--75 to 110 range & 5% or near it A1c on 500 Metformin twice a day (usually less tho).

First of all congratulations on getting all that weight off.

That is a huge success.

I am trying, but slowly.

I don't try to eat more fat, it simply happens.

As I low carb I stick to veggies and meats. The meats bring the fat right up on their own.

I need to get kicking again.
