I am trying to be really faithful about taking my mulit vitamin, but it is so hard sometimes. If I don't have a full stomach prior to taking it, I can guarantee I will end up queasy. Some mornings I am not that hungry, but I have to eat something just so I can take the darn thing. Today the vitamin still got to me, I took it, then sat down to a few pork rinds with melted cream cheese on them, with a cup of tea with heavy cream. Gotcha! those darn evil vitamins chuckled to themselves as they got a 2 minute head start.... the funny (annoying) part is that the wave of nausia didn't start till I finished eating. So technically my stomach wasn't empty at that point. Not fair in my opinion. Changing time of day won't really work for me, I am lucky to remember in the morning when I am at home. After work I take my extra suppliments, calcium and a few others, but they never seem to bother me. What is it about the multi that eats away at my stomach?

Yup, that happens to me with many multi-vitamins. I think it was the magnesium or copper in it.

The solution, you've already figured out, take it with a meal. Or, if you're like me you have a snack before bedtime, you could put the bottle on the nightstand and take it at bed time.

the B's are usually the culprit..almost always..
Take some at the beginning of a meal or in the middle of a meal..you absorb more that way as well.

A multi-vitamin will make me :Puke: everytime. I've taken different ones in the past without added minerals and didn't have a problem so I'm fairly sure it's one of the minerals, possibly copper. I've taken iron supplements without any problems. I have to resort to taking Flintstones chewables.

I had to through away a bottle of B vitamins because they made me sick yet the same strength in other brands don't so I think it is the binders or fillers that's the problem.

I'd suggest trying a different multivitamin, if that one bugs your stomach so much. Or maybe skipping the multi, and just take the specific nutrients your body actually needs.

Does it have CoQ10 in it? I had my CoQ10 the other day on a not-full-enough stomach and I had awful diarrhoea the next day. If I take it right in the middle of my lunch, I'm fine.

I'd consider ditching them altogether and taking what you need separately. I take a few supplements but at different times of day and not every day. I think that most multivitamins give you too much of a good thing anyway.

I go for folate with B6 and B12 (take it am), a Vit C drink or an ACE tablet, CoQ10 with lunch. At night I take magnesium, sometimes with a bit of potassium. I eat a lot of oily fish so I don't bother with fish-oil tablets. I'm considering taking Vit D3 in winter.

I was having the same problem, and it was a big problem on many days because I was only having a small protein shake in the morning. I talked to a lady at my healthfood store and she told me to try liquid vitamins (not the packs, but liquid gel caps) and I don't have cramp or tummy ache one!! I feel great on them, and I also reduced having to take some of my other supplements. It is chock full, here is what they have in them: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/in/living.html

I think without having to break down the pills, and without all the binders and fillers, plus the immediate delivery system, by stomach tolerates it better.

In reference to the "vitamin" issue and upset stomach..

I find that I will take them in the evening w/my dinner..It keeps from upsetting my stomach along with eating with them. My in-laws always do their vitamins in the evening as well..

Might try that

Good luck

Thank you for pointing that out JAnn. It is great for those that can tolerate the ingredients in it, not so good for those that can't :(

Thank you all for your ideas. I do think I will get a different brand of multi's when this bottle is gone, I can't bring myself to toss out a half bottle of vitamins! I find that as long as I eat first, then take the darn thing, I am ok. I leave it sitting there on the table until the last morsel of breakfast has been eaten, then down it goes. I think I need to stick with a basic multi with minerals as I know I am not getting enough in what I eat presently as I am generally under 10 carbs a day.

I take mine just before I go to bed. The vit C really burns, so as long as I go to sleep right away I don't feel it.
