don't get oprah.
But am reminded of the stats on ornish eaters as reported in PPLP (I think). Not only does their LDL rise (as we probably all know), but the rates of both suicide and death by murder go up dramatically. Somehow, they must become so much more irritating that people kill them--an amazing result, really.

I caught bits and pieces of the show. Interesting how his thoughts are identical to Atkins in the avoidance of high glycemic foods (white bread, white rice, sugar, etc) and said that if watchers learned nothing else that they should take 3 gm fish oil daily. :-)
But then he bashed the low-carb epidemic in America (where? I haven't noticed!) for being highly unhealthy because of all the meat and fat. He was very "low fat" oriented, though he did caution that low fat often translates to more sugar.
Oprah has had 2-3 different guests in the past couple months touting the dangers of high glycemic foods---whether because of its contribution to heart problems, peri/menopausal health issues, diabetes, weight control, etc.
So perhaps how we all have to go about this diet, we have to go about helping others understand----winning small understandings here and there until it's pieced altogether.
Regards,
Kristin

In the end when you are at your ideal weight, the people who live there lives with ease seem to be eating the things that are toted to be healthy foods, green vegetables-broccoli, asparugus, green peppers, spinach, lettuce, other greens, that berries are important and melons, that fish and chicken are usually included and that nuts are a good source of nutrition and that water is very important. Tomato, mushroom, olive oil are other additions. Does this eating plan sound familiar to anyone?
Dairy can be replaced by soya, or replaced by other sources of calcium and refined and processed foods are elimated. The only main difference seems to be the consumption of grain products and sugar. Can one survive with out grains, obviously the eskimo's did for years and the body turns protien into glucose in the absence of sugar. Just my two cents worth.
Yours Truely Jo-Ann
