I tasted the Jicama and absolutely love it. Its so yummy.

I ate it at lunch today. I wish I could have had more to eat.

I'm sure you could may be bake these with some cinnamon sprinkled on top in the place of apples.

Use jicama to scoop guacamole.

Sprinkle jicama batons (sticks) with lime juice and good chile powder.

What is the carb count for Jicama? According to fitday.com one cup of raw jicama has 5 net carbs.

My fitday gives me 11 carbs. How is it that? Does fitday.com not give you the net carbs or you have to figure everything out. I am totally confused now. All along I have been going with the numbers that fitday gives me.

I just checked out Atkins carb counter online and you are right per .5 cup of Jicama it says 2.5 so per 1 cup it would be 5 net carbs.

Yes, Total Carbohydrate 11.47g including Dietary Fiber 6.37g
Although the online fitday cannot deduct the fibre carbs you can make it display them so you can do the subtraction yourself.
To do this you need to set up a goal for fibre intake.
Click on the 'Goals' side bar and then select 'dietary Fibre' from the dropdown list and click 'Go' then set any old number as min/max in the table that appears.
Then the fibre will be displayed for each food.

I did this. I put 1 for min and 5 for max. I don't see the fibre displayed anywhere. Where should I being seeing this.

Thanks.

When you click on the name of any food you will be taken to the 'Food details' page where you now should see the fibre listed under the total carbs .
Once you have added the food to your food log you should see the fibre carbs listed there too.

The first time I had jicama was in Mexico and they served it with limon and chili powder. I loved it and have been hooked ever sence. I have a friend from the Phillapeans who make a salad with it and I have tried to get her recipe without any luck. It was awesome. I think Ill go on a jicama salad recipe hunt and see what I can find

Has anyone tried baking it like an apple or pear?

I couldn't find it the other day when shopping at Sainsbury's. :( I have never had it, and I am so looking forward to it. I might need to go to Whole Paycheck to find it around here.

You could try baking them with some splenda and sprinkled with some cinnamon on top.

I hear they are good, have not tried them yet.

Good luck on finding some, cause its so delish. I really enjoy it alot. They don't carry it in every grocery store only the larger chains and they don't get this product in everyday. So when I do find it, I very lucky.

I live in the US Southwest and Jicama is everywhere here. I love the crunchy texture and the taste is mild so it is easily paired with a lot of different flavors. I prefer to sprinkle most of my veggies and fruit with a lime chili powder called Tajin. It's not sweet, it just has lime, salt and chili powder which gives it a nice kick and tart taste.

I still couldn't find any today.I noticed you are in UK, moggsy.
If you do happen to find somewhere that does sell jicama do please post here where it was, as many of us Brits have tried and as far as I know never found it!!

Will do. I may actually call around.

I did a search earlier and found that you can order the seeds, but it doesn't really help me because I am in the middle of London.
