My diabetic female cousin has been on byetta for a couple of weeks.
It makes her horribly sick every day.Her doctor tells her the sickness
will ultimately subside. The good part is she has lost 13 pounds but
it appears to be a very bad way to lose weight.Does anyone have
experience with byetta?

I've been on it for some time and it made me a little sick in the beginning (not as much as metformin). It only occasionally makes me ill now but it does make me feel stuffed after eating sometimes, kinda like over eating at the holidays. I'm not losing much weight on it though because for me over eating is such a habit that the stuffed feeling doesn't seem to be a deterant.

I had a few days of what felt like mild morning sickness. It went away, but came back when I ate a high carb meal or portion size too large. I again experienced mild nausea when I switched from the 5 mcg pen to the 10 mcg pen. I combatted the nausea by taking ginger capsules pre-injection, and wearing anti-nausea wristbands. This seemed to help a lot. I've lost 12 lbs in 8 weeks.

Yes. I was the same way, I've never been so sick. I got off of it after talking to my Dr. The terrible thing is, she asks me every visit if I want to get back on it! They really push Byetta.

I lost weight by low carbing it, much more than with Byetta the two months I was on it. I think it's a terrible drug.

There are two valves in the stomach, one at your mouth end (connected with acid reflux if it opens inappropriately) and one at the other end (if it stops up food can go up and out, as in infants pyloric stenosis). Byetta stops up the valve at the lower end of your stomach. Some people tolerate this, and merely lose weight. Others ..................
