I have been Lo-carbing for nearly 3 months. Weight loss about 10lbs. Trying everything to fiind out why it is not working for me (at my weight and with never going off plan - 10lbs is absolutely minimal, no inch loss either). I have tried the Candida cure, tried no dairy, no gluten - and have even consumed a lot more calories (helped a little) but still no real weight loss.

I am now eating 20 - 25C/day (was on 30C), 80 - 82% fat, 13 - 16% protein and 3 - 5% Carbs.

Racking my brains for what the problem could be?

Then had a lightbulb moment - and checked out Doxepin (Aponal) and found it is associated with massive weight gain. (Like mine, 70lbs in 20 months).

I had a major trauma when I was pregnant but wouldnt take medication because of the baby. Basically developed post traumatic stress syndrome.

After the baby was born, they tried me on all sorts of drugs and nothing agreed with me. Finally ended up on Doxepin (tricyclic antidepressant) which is anti-anxiety, has some ssri activity and crucially for me, overcomes insomnia. Anyway I was up to 120 mgs/ day but am pretty much ok now and have been cutting right down and am now on 20mgs/day which I hope to get down to 10 mgs in a few weeks. I am really only on them now as I have severe allergies and sleep apnoea so have real difficulty sleeping even when I dont have other issues.

So now I am thinking - if it was responsible for all the weight gain, could even this fairly low dose be what is stopping me from losing weight?

It is quite hard sticking with this level of lo-carbing when you arent really getting much feedback that its working. I am persevering with it because it has brought my diabetes under control but I am questioning whether I stop trying to lose weight (which I really want to do) and move up to a maintenance level of around 40/50 carbs- because I feel like I'm on a restrictive diet without the reinforcement of watching the lbs come off.

Does anyone have experience taking this drug? Particularly in conjunction with LoCarbing?

I was taking Nortriptyline for a while and low carbing. It's not exactly the same as what you were taking but very close. I was not losing any weight and was so fatigued. My appetite was huge too. It did help with my chronic neck pain though. My Dr. switched me to Cymbalta and that actually decreased my appetite so I am sticking with that. Still tired though.

Hi Ginga - Do you think the lo-carbing is making you lack energy or the drugs? I think the drugs make you feel lethargic - I still havent got down beyond 20mgs but I still feel a little hungover each day.

If you are talking about lo-carbing making you feel drained, then from what I have read - other posters have said this can happen if you have too much protein and not enough fat.

I have managed to get my weight loss moving a little more but this is through keeping at induction level carbs and keeping fats really high.

It is definitely the drugs. I have been lowcarbing off and on for years and never had a problem with being fatigued. I had gotten down where I wanted to be last year so I decided to quit smoking and the weight came back on. Then I had an operation on my neck and was prescribed the meds for pain.
