I have been doing a lot of reading and charting my cycles. Although i havent been diagnosed with PCOS, i do suspect it. I have had so many of the symptoms for years. My question is maybe only for those who have conceived after lowcarbing. I'd like to know just how low carb and for how long. I have concieved before but only after coming off the pill. I have 7 week cycles (at least thats been the trend for the past 2 years) and i know they are anovulatory (i chart my temps).I am hoping for help through nutrition before chasing doctors who often dont know anything more than i do. I have been lowcarb for a while, but i'm probably not as strict as i shoould could be though i dont do sugar, wheat, or any other grain. Any input would be great. thank you.

Both my kids were born before I was diagnosed with PCOS, so I can't answer your question directly. However, I can tell you that I started normal cycles two weeks after I started eating low carb (the first time I went through this).

*That* time I was advised by my doctor to go NO carb for 6 months. He told me to eat *only* meat, eggs and cheese for that time.

I was completely fixed long before the 6 months were up. (Then I thought I was "cured" and went back to the SAD. Big mistake. Now I'm broken again.)

This time I tried to do things a bit different. I lowered my carbs to 40-60g a day and planned on maintaining there.

I can tell you now, this is NOT working. Yesterday I gave in and started the meat, eggs, cheese diet again. For me, induction is not a option.

I have never been diagnosed as PCOS(I don't do MD's) but I am pretty sure that was the case. My cycles were never, ever regular. It had been a few years since I had had a period. It didn't bother me I hated them anyways and I had long since given up on ever having a baby. In Nov 2002 I started Atkins and stayed at Induction level of carbs. In July of 2003 I started having my periods again. By Dec 2003 they were pretty regular - every 6 weeks. By that time I had lost about 60lbs and was exercizing quite a bit. In Feb 2004 I just didn't have and energy or desire to do any of my hobbies or exercise. All I wanted to do was sleep. By the end of Feb 2004 I found out I was 8 weeks pregnant! I blamed in on Atkins. It was the only thing that I had changed. So in 2004 I turned 40 and celebrated our 20th wedding Anniversary and gave birth to the most beautiful little girl, at home with a midwife, just like I had always hoped for.

Great story! Congrats on your little surprise!

Keep in mind PCOS is a spectrum disorder. I'm on the extreme end. LC and weight loss did nothing for me. We had to do IVF for our daughter.

I would give it 1 to 2 months and if you see no improvement, re-evaluate.
