Trying to sort out Fitday so I can get a complete analysis (rather than just shoving in Carbs) and figure out why I am not really losing weight.

Coffee keeps showing up as having Carbs in.

Does anyone know - if I have black espresso made from beans - is ther any carbs in it - either decaf or caffeinated?

Can anyone post a link to where I might find a nutritional breakdown for Coffee?

Fitday - I make my own nut muffins and have one a day. How do I on Fitday load up a recipes worth of ingredients and then get it to divide by 12.

It looks to me like you have to work out all the nutritional elements by hand (or spreadsheet) and then add them all together divide by 12 and then load up as a customised muffin on Fitday.

Can anybody suggest an easier way than this? Thanks. :p

I also use fitday and I simply trust that, if they say there's a carb per mug of coffee, it must be true. I only have 2 cups a day so it hardly makes a dent in my daily carb count.

For making new recipes, I go to a day where I haven't entered any food yet. Somebody suggested going to a future date, but I prefer using a past date from before I started using Fitday.

On that day, I enter in all the foods in the muffins (or pancakes or whatever new recipe I have.) Let's say it's a recipe of 12 muffins.

Then I go to "new custom food" (but in a new window) and enter in "12 servings" and copy all the information about carbs, fat, etc. from the other window. Then, in window 1, I go to "reports" then "nutrition" to copy down the info for the other nutrients. Then I enter all this data in window 2 and save the custom food.

Sometimes, instead of starting with "new custom food" I'll take a recipe for something of similar size and shape (say some sort of cupcake or muffin) and then edit that (using the 2 window system) so that I can put in "slice of cake" or "2.5 inch muffin" or "3 inch muffin" rather than simply "one serving" after it's done. Just be careful not to let the nutritional info from the food you're not using mess up the numbers (maybe have the 2nd window in a different day, or save it as a custom food with all values being zero beore entering all the info accurately.)

The USDA web site lists coffee as having no carbs. :)

Some of the nutrition sites use older versions of the data from the USDA, but the USDA keeps their own site up to date. If I have questions, I double-check it there. Here's the link if you'd like to have it:

A few years ago the "authorities" (who we can't trust) said it has no carbs, I have never counted it as having carbs and it has never made an iota of difference in weight loss. My current stats don't reflect the success I have had in the past lol. So...yeah, don't go by them :)

Cheers everyone - I knew there was a site somewhere with all the nutritional data on! Fitday has espresso down as having nearly 4C for a mug of coffee and theres no protein in it so it cant include milk. Wierd.

I am so glad I have persevered with Fitday - loaded up the muffins this afternoon.

Well I havent quite finished my eating for the day yet but I am beginning to see why I havent been losing weight after just one fairly typical day. No wonder I have been hungry - I am consuming about 800 calories less a day than I should be for my weight. Dare I up the amounts I am eating which would also include more carbs in order to keep the ratios right??

Sounds scarey.

I had used Fitday for tracking carbs but just put in stuff like custom muffins 3.5C and hadnt looked at the ratios or the calories. Wow - what a revelation. Glad I did after 2 months with almost no weight loss I was almost ready to quit!!

Atkins doesn't require one to eat extra carbs in order to meet some "ratio".

But dont you think I'll have trouble adding in another 600+ calories without eating some more carbs?

I wouldn't have any problem adding fat & protein to equal 600 calories a day.
