Following Dr Davis' website, I've increased my Vitamin D3 to 3000mg per day, using natures choice tablets. Knowing the vitamin needs fat to be absorbed, at the same time I take three krill-based fish oil capsules, one gram fatty acid each. I've been doing this for 2 or more months. Lately my skin has been very itchy. I live in the wyoming desert at 7000ft altitude. Dry skin is a constant problem here. It never much bothered me before. Also I have a small 'liver spot' on my brow. It has been there well over a year but recently it seems to have darkened somewhat. It's not a nodule.

Several years ago I was taking docycycline for blepharitis. The drug caused the same sort of itchiness. Being light-skinned the doxy had interacted with my skin and with sunlight the combo led to an itchy rash. I mention it because this itchiness now reminds me of when I was taking the doxy.

Does anyone know whether Vit D3 reacts with skin?

Dr. Davis says don't take tablets, take the oil based ones. Other than that, I have no opinion on your itchiness. I'm light skinned too and haven't experienced those effects. Maybe it is a filler or type of product you're taking? Either way, I'd go with the oil-based gelcap just to make sure.

Does anyone know whether Vit D3 reacts with skin?Vitamin D absolutely reacts with skin. Commonly it heals dry and broken skin and makes it smoother; it make the dermis thicker and stronger. It also can make skin darker as if lightly tanned. Vitamin D has been prescribed for blepharitis.

The only time I've heard of vitamin D causing dry skin is when you are not getting enough. First the body is glad to get it and starts healing, then the dry skin comes back because you are not getting enough vitamin D to heal/correct all the body wants to so the body makes choices and skin seems to be far down the list.

Oh, as Nancy said you can be reacting to the filler in the tablets. Now that Nancy's reminded me there have been people who have had itchiness reactions.

Is it all skin, or just exposed?
I live in Colorado at 6200. I've noticed that the sun is getting strong enough to affect my skin when I'm outside and it always makes me very, very itchy for a while when I start to get exposure.

Not to mention the complete lack of any moisture in the air for the past 2 months :p

My skin is looking better than ever (I take about 3000), but I have had to use lotion lately. We really do need some rain.

For me it's not just the exposed skin like my face but equally the hidden areas shoulders, legs. My bamboo back-scratcher is about worn smooth.

I get itchy when I don't get enough vitamin D. And I get itchy from fish oil, because I am allergic to fish!
