Where do you all get your fiber from?

I was considering buying a huge container of Benefiber from Costco and taking about 25g everyday, but I just wanted to hear what you're all doing.

<I'm just starting the induction phase of Atkins, btw>

I never felt I needed extra fiber. So my answer to your question is, "Nothing!"

I think the claims about fiber are over done. I get fiber from the veggies I eat. As long as I stay away from dairy products I generally don't have any constipation.

I think the fiber theory is bogus. Just like the cholesterol myth. And the lowfat lie. If you think about it, fiber is non-nutritive and indigestible in the human. How can it be "necessary"?

I actually think fiber is harmful. It does the scrubbing in the colon, so your body's natural peristalsis doesn't have to work. It may be one of those "use it or lose it" scenarios.

This information on this link is a little radical, but I think there are some good points amidst the alarm. http://www.biblelife.org/fiber.htm

Nothing. It seems when I have enough fat there is no need for fiber.

Well I"m taking Metamucil (psylium) three times a day with plenty of water though.... It helps somewhat but I'm still looking for answers lol....:( There's also Fiberchoice which is more fiber than Metamucil but inulin as supposed to psylium.... Flax Seed helps some people, and Magnesium is supposed to help.

anyone else, I bought some benefiber and have been using that but I still haven't done the deed for 3 days now. I've been getting about 10 grams of fiber a day should I get it up to about 20 with the benefiber?

Actually, I'd suggest supplementing with either vitamin C or magnesium. I find that either or both are (a) good for you and (b) help with any tendency toward constipation. Although as a couple of people have said, if I'm getting enough fat and am drinking enough fluids, I don't have problems with constipation.

I purchase GG Scandinavian Bran Crispbreads from netrition.com.

Each large cracker contains 3 carbs...of which, 3 are fiber...

Alone...they taste like cardboard...but topped with tuna salad, cheese, etc...they aren't half bad.

Important thing is...they do the trick. They may only be 3 grams of fiber each...but they are bulk...and keep things moving.

Just my 2 cents.

Dr. Mike Eades wrote a blog post about this very thing back in 2006. He also doesn't think the obsession with fiber and daily bowel movemens is such a good thing. http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/uncategorized/a-cautionary-tale-of-mucus-fore-and-aft/

Both of these articles are very interesting but the fact remains that if I don't get fiber I feel like I'm passing rocks and don't go for weeks. What are the cons of fiber?

Have you tried taking Magnesium Citrate? Works like a charm for regularity. I take it every night and never have "issues." :D Keeping up your fat and veggie intake is also important.
