If i use a blood glucose meter and do the test at home can i figure out if i have gestational diabetes, or is the hospital glucose test somehow different. I would ask husband as he is in medical field but he is not home and i want to know now. I been eating lots of chocolate things and cereal and other ungodly things, but i dont gain weight but i need to know if am becoming gestationally dibetic.

How far along are you? You'll get the 'official' test done at your OB's regardless, but if you wanted you could certainly test at home with a glucosometer. Keep in mind the rates are lower for pregnant women, and your doctor may want you to be within a certain range. \

Me, I'd save my fingers for the official test and worry about GD then!

I did the test at the doctor's office and although I "passed" the numbers were awfully close to the limit, (1 point off!) so I'm using a home meter to monitor and make sure I keep my levels as even as possible. It's helping me feel much better, though the doctor would say it's technically not necessary.

Home monitoring does give you a good idea of whether you're getting too low fasting or too high after meals. However, the doctor's office test is a "shock test" where they hit you with a glucose solution and see how quickly your body reacts. I am not sure it would be really effective to do it at home, even if you could get a bottle of the glucose solution to drink.
