I am just getting over a virus that hit me really hard and kept me in bed for the best part of a week. (Which is why I haven't posted for a while). I notice that my BGs got a lot higher and thought it was because I was not exercising.
Would getting sick with the flu or something else cause this by itself?
If so, would anyone know why?

Bacterial and viral infections (e.g., flu, colds, etc.) can cause a big jump in blood sugar readings for me (and many other diabetics).
I hope that you are feeling better soon, januaria.

Any kind of stress on the body can raise blood sugars dramatically. I once hurt my leg and was in a lot of pain for a few days and I was up about 15 points more than normal.

That explains a lot. I am supposing emotional stress also has a big effect. Maybe I will start relaxation exercises at night...

Emotional stress can also have a big impact for me. Plus, anger. A couple of months ago, I had just taken my morning FBG reading when something unexpected and uncalled for happened that made me very angry very fast. (I am not normally a person quick to anger.) About 15 minutes later, I took another blood sugar reading and it had jumped about 50 points.

Wow! 50 points? That is a lot. I had best keep my temper under control, lol...
