I originally took out both PP books (PP and PPLP) from the library, and eventually obtained my own copy of PPLP. But what I still don't have is the formulas to calculate lean body mass, the chart for "normal" body fat % at various ages, etc.

Is this information available online somewhere or do I need to get a copy of the book again?

Also, does anybody know if those calculations are accurate for children and adolescents?

Ruth, I'm in a rush right now so I can't dig out my original book just yet but I'll try to do it soon and see what I can find for you. Have you checked the Eades' site and forum for this information? I'm kind of wondering if it might be there. If not let me know and I'll look it up in the book for you. I would imagine LBM calculations would be accurate for anyone, but charting the impact of them would differ depending on age...again, the pp forum might have some threads to address that issue.

Eade's has his own forum? I'd better go check that out!

Ruth, I believe this link does the calculation the same way as PP - fill in the pink part & hit "calculate" and it will give you your protein requirement: http://www.getrolling.com/orbit/zoneCalcFemale.html

Ruth,

I believe this link does the calculation the same way as PP. Just ignore the Zone blocks: http://www.getrolling.com/orbit/zoneCalcFemale.html
Thanks for the link!

Interestingly, this comes up with a lower number for my lean body mass than my own calculations from Eade's book a few months ago. Did I goof up when I did the math myself, did I lose 10 lbs worth of lean body mass, or do the Zone and PP calculations do things differently?

I believe the Eades also recommend increasing the exercise value to the next level to cover the protein needed to carry extra weight around.

Yeah, the body fat calcs may be different. Here are some other ways of calculating it (I think #2 is like PP, but #3 works best for me - compared to my fat measurements in a tank). It may seem odd to measure your neck & forearm, but I've always carried my excess weight below my waist and other calcs tend to underestimate my BF%.

I lost 7 lbs of LBM (using the Eades calcs in PP before and after my weightloss), but LBM includes water & I was puffy when I started.

OK, those just measure body fat, not lean body mass, which can then be used to figure out a healthy goal weight and protein requirements per day.

I checked out the PP website, including the forums (which I can't fully log onto until Hotmail decides to work- why didn't I sign on with my Yahoo email??) but I can't seem to find those links anywhere.

Ruthla, the links to calculators are in the first forums on that site, the ones called 'Getting Started'. There's a forum in that area that is called something like "Important Links and Resources" and there are all sorts of calculators linked there.

I wouldn't use those numbers for kids -- I'd expect their protein requirements would be different, and probably higher, than for adults of the same size. JMO.
