Hi - I am new to Atkins and new to this board. I have read a lot about the positive weight-loss benefits of fucoxathin - most popularly seen in the form of "Fucoxathin" from Garden of Life. Does anyone know if using this would help or interfere with doing Atkins? It is supposed to increase the body's metabolism rate (without stimulating the nervous system), as well as the body's ability to burn fat. I seem to be rather metabolic-resistent and was wondering if using the fucoxathin along with Atkins was a good idea or not. Any input, thank you!

Sadly, you just can't use or depend on ANY pill to help you lose weight. If you are metabolic-resistent, what you most likely are is very carb sensitive with huge insulin reactions to even small amounts of carbs. Carbs are the body's preferential energy source. Your body learns to store carbs too easily, and it never accesses your fat stores. Therefore, do Atkins carefully and seriously and you will quickly deplete your carb stores and force your body into use your stored fat as energy. Over time, your state of insulin sensitivity will diminish. It's really a matter of learning how YOUR body reacts and works, and creating a new way of eating FOR LIFE to control how your body deals with foods and stores fat. If you go into this popping diet pills, you will be less likely to learn a new way of eating and less likely to change your habits. This is all about changing your habits....your old way of eating didn't work well for you, therefore you need to find a new way of eating that you will follow MOST of the time. This, not pills, is the "secret" to weight loss and maintenance of that loss.
By the way, I recently read a big study in which they proved that various weight loss pills really didn't did anything at all in terms of creating a weight loss advantage. Don't believe what you read in the ads....remember, they are selling a product...a very profitable product.

I think all weight loss, carb blockers etc pills are amazing. They can separate you from your hard earned cash quick as a wink

I'd never heard of fucoxanthin, so did a search. Apparently, it's a type of carotene derived from seaweed. In a small study done in Japan, mice were injected with large amounts of fucoxanthin and indeed, they lost some abdominal fat. FWIW, there are no human studies on this.
I checked a few websites which sell fucothin/fucoxanthin supplements. The amount of active ingredient in each pill is miniscule. You'd need to take dozens, if not a hundred or more pills just to get the same dose as the tiny mice .
The best idea is to follow a low-carb plan, and do exercise that you enjoy. Soon you'll be able to spend the money you saved from NOT buying those pills on some new smaller-size clothes .

Im in the vitamin business and here is what I hear and see.
People have been buying the crap out of it..initially but have not been back for a return purchase...no one is seeing results.
I'm not sure what the thermic properties are of the product and I did receive a free copy of this book, but I think the diet is what is causing people to lose weight.
Meat, eggs, non starchy veggies, limited grains, fermented products, low glycemic fruit and coconut oil..
Sound familiar???

I tried it this winter - I ended up selling it on eBay! Total bust.
