I cannot believe what I just read. I didn't think anybody still believed that dietary cholesterol is a danger. ABC News does. Doesn't dietary cholesterol account for something like only 5% of serum cholesterol? In other words, it's a non-factor.

Also, I had a researcher and author tell me 15 years ago that eggs get a bad rap, that the lecithin within an egg is protective and counteracts the cholesterol.

MYTH 4: If I have two scrambled eggs for breakfast, I've already exceeded my daily recommended cholesterol intake. -- True.

A typical egg yolk has about 200 to 250 milligrams of cholesterol (of course, there is no cholesterol in egg whites). The recommended daily cholesterol intake, according to the American Heart Association, is 300 milligrams a day.

If you eat two egg yolks for breakfast, you are likely exceeding your daily recommended intake by more than one-third.

Even after eating just one egg yolk in the morning, it's likely you will need to restrict other animal fats from your diet for the rest of the day to keep within recommended levels.

Some people's LDL is elevated by egg yolks.
I stopped eating real eggs for a month and my
LDL dropped 18 points.

I gotta say, "So what?" LDL Cholesterol is there for a reason. It isn't harmful unless you're eating a high carb diet.

I know what you mean, man. I eat egg yolks all the time. I could eat like 10 every morning, all scrambled together in an omlet, and my doctor says my cholesterol is perfect. Question Suggestions anyone?
So I go to the doctor the other day for my cholesterol test results. My triglycerides are 404 and my good Cholesterol is 33 which he considers way low. He tells me to go on a no carb diet for 6 weeks then we will recheck the numbers. In the mean time I am trying to eat healthy but no carbs and healthy eating don't mix in according to what I am reading. Anyone with same issue? help!!!!!

The response?

He basically recommended the Atkins diet for you? Seems odd. Mine said stay away from fatty foods and exersize.

My understanding is that our bodies need about 1200 mg of cholesterol per day to keep us healthy. I further understand that our bodies can only absorb 300 mg per day from deitary, regardless of how much cholesterol we consume.

So, my understanding is that high cholesterol is not able to be lowered by dietary intake. Perhaps, shedding weight can help, but limiting our cholesterol intake probably does nothing if my understanding is correct.

Okay but 18 points may not be that statistically significant unless your LDL was pretty low to begin with.
