Hi, thought it might be fun to have daily check in's so we can keep up with eachother and make sure everyone is doing well.
Since I live on the Pacific Coast someone else should start in in the mornings. (Like in England)?? or the eastern shores, but first one on starts it.

Anyone what to join me
Things we could discuss:
New recipes :yum:
Exercise we do
Family, pets, hobbies, volunteer work - work!
What we did yesterday and/or want to do today or plan to do?
Jokes, I got one today from my cousin who never ever sends stuff like that. It was so funny. I wonder if I can post it here. I'm going to try.

Hiya Blue:) Pasting pictures huh? I spent days and nights and have no idea how I did it.
So, what would you like to chat about?
We have 3 dogs (?) and 2 cats. The question mark is because a stray golden retriever all bones and obviously been abused and definately wacky moved in under our house over a week ago. She is so screwed up. Wants to be friendly but scared stiff.
Have 2 stupid poodles almost 2 but more like 3 mos; a 17 yo deaf beagle, one long haired male cat that adopted us last spring when he was about 4 months old(skinny as all get out) and a crazy siamese female.
Am married. for 2nd time. Was married 37 yrs and well, I just could't stand it any longer... then met hubby #2 after 4 weeks of being single
Met 6/29/01 and married 8/17/02. :D This one is a keeper. We do have an age difference...I am 17 yrs older than he is...LOL.keeps me smiling :agree:

Cricket....would you prefer to just join Bluepants here, rather than trying to keep up in the challenge thread too? This is pretty much what I was hoping for anyway. It looks like at least 3 of us are interested in giving it a try. I'll go get what I just posted in the challenge thread and bring it here, and we can start posting here instead if you want to. :)

Edit: This is in response to what Cricket had written in the other thread, but...here it is anyway.

Hey Cricket. LOL at your gypsy kid and insane cats. :D

Blueberries....NIIIICE! We have 2 bushes, which are 2 years old now....last year I got a whopping 12 berries off of them. I'm hoping for a better crop this year. :D Any tips?
We also have 3 grape vines and 2 peach trees. We also have lots of wild animals and they get most of everything. Our peach trees were loaded last year....we were waiting for them to get ripe....so were the raccoons and dear. I think they left us about 6.

DH has big plans for our garden this year. We always have one....but it's nothing to brag on most years. We have 30 acres, mostly trees. We had a couple of horses for a while...they were so fabulous to watch....but they were too young, and liked to bite. And we were too inexperienced. It was a happy day when they left. My DH's cousin trains them, that is where we got them, and he bought them back after a couple of years. Watching him with them is amazing. They will do anything he tells them to do. I mostly just tried to stay out of their way. They are some BIG animals. But gorgeous ones! :)

Update: I got a little closer to getting all the protein in, but still not great. I did get my exercise in. :)

Hi Galatia :) Love the links you post! And Hi to Bluepants and Snickers :D
Well, I wish you gals could pick some of my berries! We have the 2 acres of them and can't get them all picked. This year we do a pick your own. Fertilizer is a must in early spring. Pone a nice deep hole next to the plant and pour the fertilizer right into the root areas. I need to tkae the golf cart up there and ride through the rows to see what needs to be done. The grape arbours are in need of repair. We bought this place 2 yrs ago and have been rebuilding it. There's a pear tree here that has the type that does not get soft and is used in canning. That is getting cut down. It had one pear on it the year we moved here, and last year had hundreds of huge fruit. I tried to do something with them but it isn't worth the effort.Don't need to feed the fire ants.
Had a horse farm in NYS and sold it in '96 when I oved to FL. Daughter is moving here in about 2 yrs and she'll set up a training center here.

now for the diet... I am trying the higher fat diet and canot get the fat up. I know the protein is lower than it should be... at my weight, what do you recommned the % to weight is?
I had 07.74 total carbs today. I have no problems low carbing!
My protein was 67g, fats 502.5g;calories 1059. I know these are off. I'm not fanatical but would lie to see how far off I am.
I enjoy fish and have a little chicken or pork occassionally..maybe once a week. I have eggs and heavy cream, butter and usually have tilapia fillets once or even twice a day. I do better with having 2 carbs of iceberg lettuce every few days.and treat myself to brussels sprouts for a higher carb day. Does that sound very off to you?

May as well join in here. Hi, all!

I'm 52, been on Atkins for lo these many years (six? seven?) and have recently started Intermittent Fasting to take off five pounds of winter podge that wasn't budging. It's mostly off now - after just two weeks! - but I plan to continue IF in the hopes of maybe, eventually, who knows, finally, getting to goal! I'm totally jealous of people who seem to drop weight eating a zillion calories six times a day, but I guess when you're over 50, female, and not very big, that isn't going to happen. Still, I'm in my healthy weight range, and, unlike the rest of my family, show no signs of metabolic syndrome, and I owe it all to low carb.

No blueberries, no horses, no acreage, no stray dogs, just a small condo in the middle of the city (Vancouver BC Canada) and one very strange, neurotic cat. I teach undergraduate college/university English.

Hi Cricket and Rachel. I hope Snickers finds her way here too, and Bluepants comes back. :) And welcome to anyone else who would like to join us. :)

Cricket, thanks for the blueberry tip. I will do exactly what you suggested. I hate that you have to cut down the pear tree....did you consider letting people pick those too, since you're doing a pick your own blueberries? I canned pears one year....they were so good.

I know the protein is lower than it should be... at my weight, what do you recommend the % to weight is?

Protein: 1 gr. per lb of goal weight. So, my goal weight right now is 130 so I try to eat 130 gr. of protein a day.

What is your target for fats, carbs, and calories?

My carbs come from lowcarb bread and vegetables mostly.

Rachel: Glad you've joined us. :)
I just started IF Feb. 7th. I love the control I'm feeling over eating, but have yet to stay on my meal plans, therefore haven't really lost much. I've been good about staying within my 4 hour window, and that is BIG for me. It's really helped my binge eating problem. And it's so nice to feel full! I was always chasing after that "full feeling" and rarely experiencing it. Then would come the binge eating. My window is noon to 4:00, and I exercise around 2:00 so it's working really well. My energy/strength level is much better doing this. :)

Rachel, how do you like teaching? My DS is getting his teaching degree now and plans to teach a year and then go to law school. But he isn't 100% sure he wants to be a lawyer, so that could change. He is sure he wants to experience teaching. I'll be glad when he gets it all figured out. :)

You've done great with your weight. You mentioned calories....how many are you getting?

I'm zig-zagging my macros (cals, fats, carbs, prots.). I have a plan that I think is going to work well....soon as I start doing it. My routine has been messed up lately but should be back on track now, so next week I'm very hopeful. :)

I tried that cauliflower pizza crust yesterday. It was good, and easy. Makes 4 servings and I ate all 4. I'll post the recipe if anyone is interested.

Cricket....17 years younger huh? I can't imagine. ;)

Hi galatia:)
YW on the berries, and I can't give the pears away. They stay hard as rocks and no one wants to bother. It is a shame, and if it were some place else I wouldn't cut it down. It is at the edge of the driveway and planted too close to a huge oak... not nearly worth the pruning efforts needed.

I was too low on protein but I will work hard at getting it up.I don't know though about 135 gms...

fats I want to be 80% per the high fat thread but I had to ask how much that should be... I had 502 gms fat and 1519 calories which is very high for me.
I try to stay up to 1000. All the fats brought that up.

I am staying very low carb.under 20 and under 10 if I can except on veggies day. I do alternate below 10 to 20 carbs.Total not net carbs. I stall with veggies and now have 1-2 gms of iceberg lettuce or some brussels sprouts for the veggetables and that is not everyday.

I don't have grains, nuts, seeds or fruits yet. Veggies are from induction list.

But I did lose another 0.5 lbs today! :D

Hello Ladies!

I'd like to join you all in this as I am now 57 yrs old...yikes!! soon to be 58.

I've been a bit below my goal weight now for more than 2 yrs....but truth be told...I'd like very much to head to 150 and am working my head into doing it.

I am bad about getting my butt into the gym....I am lazy! I walk dogs for 4-5 hours daily and am quite tired when I get home but that is no excuse for me to not go.

I'm not married and have no human kids but do have furry 4 legged kids, 3 of them....of the canine variety. I live in NYC, right in the heart of it...so no gardening for me.

I'd like to commit to going to the gym 2 times by this coming Sunday!! :agree:

Hi Cricket and Judy. Judy, I'm so glad you're joining us. :) I'm gonna hold you to getting to the gym. :D You know you love it when you're in the habit of it. After you get a few days behind you, you'll be hooked again. :)

I have 2 furry girls now. My oldest girl died last summer. I had to have her put down, she had gotten in such bad shape with old age. It was one of the hardest things I've every had to do in my life. I still can't think of her for long without crying. She was a wonderful friend and part of our family. But we still are blessed with Cloe' (teacup poodle/ 12 yrs.) and Harley (cocker spaniel mostly 4 yrs.). There's a picture of Harley in my gallery. They are both so precious to me.

Judy you've done GREAT with your progress....if you decide to get to 150, no doubt you'll do it. :)

Cricket~ great on the loss. Any loss is good loss.

My eating was much better today. I finally ate on plan. My exercising was good too. Got in weights and cardio. So....successful day here. :)

Thanks for the welcome Gala!!

So sorry about your loss....:( I too, have an old one...Honey is a chow mix rescue and is now 16 yrs old....so her days with me are numbered. I am grateful for each day we have now as I almost lost her this past fall and it hit me hard. I've also got a 16 lb shih-tzu named Gomez.....he's 9 yrs old...then there is my 6 yr old cattle dog Daisy...Daisy is the one that got me to a couple of places, agility training and shy dog seminar...both of which got me going to finally lose all that weight!! She has been a blessing to me!!

I've had to put down 2 of my dogs over the years. I comfort myself knowing that I gave them an end with peace, dignity and no pain. More than we can do for ourselves.

Way to go on getting your food right today!! :agree:

One thing that I now know for sure, that doing exercise without getting the food right is not the best way.

Hi Galatia:) good job on sticking power!
Hey there Judy! I actually read your profile last week after reading one of your posts someplace. My folks used to live in the heart of the city. right off Broadway.
My oldest hairy child ( actually guradian for him) is 17 yr old deaf beagle. I lost my 21 yr old yorkie/schnauzer cross 2 yrs ago. She was such a good friend. I 've lost a lot of pets over the years. And a few horses as well. Not easy, but I always said too, that at least we can do for our pets what we can't do for our family. Did you know that the child abuse and welfare laws came into place because of the animal abuse laws? We finally figured out that our kids should have the same rights as animals. My last position was with Hospice, so at least those clients got to die with dignity and free of pain.

Today my cals were up.1918. carbs 8.3; fats 137.25gs and 96.5 gs of protein. That is a lot better than yesterday, but I have got to get the calories down. I want to be around 1000 again.
If the protein gets lower, then that will be that. I will try to alternate but I want the high fats.
When the weather warms up I hope to be abe to walk a bit.
Judy, you are tall but you can sure get to your new goal:)

I haven't missed a week since the first year!
When I go to Chicago to take care of my daughter in a couple of weeks we may have a battle. She hates the reality shows.
She's Was a HS English teacher and now a Special Ed teacher but she has been a proessional singer for years..she'sreally good. Turned down a contract about 13 yrs ago. She sings at clubs and private affairs. Mostly country but does whatever the clients want...so, she can't stand the way Simon mouths off.I think he is right although a bit rude at times.Everyone wants her to try out for it but she wants no part of showbiz on the bigger scale. :agree:

Good Morning!

Hey Cricket! Hey Gala!! :D

IMO, Cricket, your calories at your current weight would be good at about 1400-1500 for weight loss. 1000 sounds a bit too low to me.

Its good to know that I'm in the company of other animal lovers!! :rheart:

AI...I am totally addicted!! Love/hate it! IMO, they have got the best talent this year of all the years. :agree:

I also watch The Biggest Loser.....those are my 2 reality shows....I'm also hooked on the politcal race but will refrain from talking about it as its against forum policy.

My cable box has the DVR in it so I record most of what I watch so that I can fast forward through the commercials!! :p

Hi, Galatia. Your pictures rock. I wanna be like you when I grow up! Seriously, I don't have the dedication (or the time) to work out like you must, but I try to get some cardio and weights in just about every day, even if it's just walking and maybe some upper body.

I'm liking the IF too, though I'd be happier if the weight loss had continued into the third week. I seem to be maintaining now after a 4.5ish pound loss. Hopefully it'll pick up again .... but even if not, as you say, I enjoy the sense of control IFing gives me. I think my eating has been healthier, most days, anyway. I'm watching calories because I want to lose a few more pounds, and I'm averaging about 1200 a day, just eyeballing it. And I feel way less hungry IFing on 1200 calories than if I tried to spread them over a whole day.

I like teaching, mostly, certainly better than any other job I've held. I have a lot of autonomy insofar as I decide on my own textbooks and lecture plan (as long as I stick to the curriculum, of course), and aside from scheduled classroom hours, I can decide for myself when and where I want to do my admin work, marking, etc. There are also quite a few days off, though that's balanced by quite a few 50-hour weeks, unfortunately!

Maybe your DS can teach law? Now there's a compromise! I'm sure he'll figure it out!

Cauliflour pizza crust sounds yummy, yes, post the recipe, please!

Hi Ladies. :)

Judy:

I agree with that. Do you know how many calories you can eat and lose .5-1 lb. a week? If you cut them too low before you need to, you won't have anywhere to go when you stall. Which, I'm sure you already know that. :)

AI: I guessed right on the guys last night, but I wasn't sure who was going to go with the girls.
Cricket, that is so neat that your daughter is a singer. Must be very nice to go watch her perform. Is she o.k.? You said you were going to "take care of her"?
Simon is an angel now compared to what he started out being, that's for sure. :D Maybe she won't find him quite so unpleasant now. I wouldn't watch it if he weren't there.
Office is my favorite T.V. show.

Rachel, thank-you for the compliment. I lift weights 4 days a week and try to get in about 3 or 4 20 min. cardio sessions. Takes me about an hour an half 4 days a week, generally. I have a gym in my home, so I have no excuses. :)
And I feel way less hungry IFing on 1200 calories than if I tried to spread them over a whole day.
Me too. Well, I eat more than 1200, but same feelings about it. :) It's so nice to not always be hungry!!
Here is the link to the cauliflower pizza: http://cleochatra.blogspot.com/2008/02/i-cant-believe-its-cauliflower-pizza.html The girl who posted it is on this forum. It was really good. :)

It'll be interesting to see how my son does with teaching. He's planning to be a math teacher, and he wants to teach high school. He's going to be doing substitute teaching the rest of this year. He'll be starting week after next I think. I think he's too thinned skinned for it, but we'll see how it goes. http://forums.abbywinters.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

You do have to be a bit thick-skinned to teach. However, it does get better with practice. I've grown a thicker skin over the past five years, for sure ... hmmm... maybe that accounts for a bit of the extra fluff?

I teach college, and my students are ostensibly adults. I could never teach high school. Even so, some of the less mature 18- and 19-year-olds (and some older than that, alas) can cause all sorts of headaches. Right now I've got one class full of whisperers and note-passers that I've let get away with it too long. Next class I'll have to crack the whip. I'm going to have to physically separate the troublemakers and make it clear that the next one who distracts me during a lecture will be asked to leave .... and if he/she refuses to leave, *I* will leave, and that person can take over teaching the class that day. Think it'll work?

I'd love a proper home gym. I'm in small a one-bedroom condo, so I obviously can't do much in that regard. I have a set of handweights (to 12 pounds) that I sling around once in a while, and I do some squats, lunges, etc. Right now I'm looking into incorporating some isometrics, which require no equipment. All things considered, I'm in reasonable shape - better than when I was 20 years younger! - though of course there's always room for improvement.

As for the weekend ... BF and I are going to a video night and finger-food potluck which will be ALL carby junk aside from whatever we bring ourselves. I plan to fast until my usual time (5:00), eat a big dinner, and hope I can resist temptation. I'll bring some nuts and cheese, so if I do succumb, at least the damage will be minimal.

Cheers,
Rachel

Hi Ladies. :)

Rachel thank-you for your thoughts on teaching. I've tried to discourage DS from doing it, in a passive way. I never want to hear that I talked anyone out of living their life the way they wanted to. *heavy sigh* http://forum.lowcarber.org/images/icons/icon9.gif Maybe all my fears will be unfounded....and it'll all go great. :)

Well it sounds like you have a very good working plan going on with your exercise. Being in better shape now than 20 years ago is wonderful. :) Do you think you'll ever post a picture?

I've started doing high fat/IF now. Going good so far. I keep tweaking hoping to find perfection! :D I'm down below 140 this morning....so I'm pretty excited about that.

I hope everyone has time to come by and update on how things are going. :)

Sat, Mar-08-08, 12:04
Hi, Galatia, all. Not much to update. Work has been a bit stressful ... we're entering the last month of term, and students are facing midterms, deadlines, etc., and, too often, suffering the results of their procrastination. In the minds of some, this is all the *instructor's* fault. Sigh. Still and all, what this means is that classroom teaching ends soon, and from mid-April until September I'll either be working from home or on vacation, which is the total upside of my job.

I've lightened up on IF - I'm still doing it, but not forcing the fast until 5:00. I was just getting too obsessive about it, thinking about either eating or not eating much of the time. So these days I'm skipping breakfast, which has never been a big deal to me, breaking my fast in the early afternoon, and closing the window around 9:30 or 10:00 at the latest. Having a 7-hour eating window seems more natural than a 5-hour one, for some reason. I think I can do that most days, with an earlier break-fast on days I'm eating lunch or brunch with others.

Keep us posted on your high fat, Galatia! I've considered it, but I always seem to gain weight in HF, or, at best, maintain. But one thing at a time ... for now I'll focus on "regular," non-obsessive, IF.

Rachel

Hi all, I don't mind checking in since I am now 56. :q: How did that happen I wonder :p I've had a hectic week at work,so just kicking back and relaxing today. I did go to the new grocery store that just opened up and got a heck of a buy on Heavy Cream, Cottage Cheese, and regular cheese. I didn't look at the meat since I have a freezer full. I've been staying on track, but haven't lost much weight lately, but have been taking off inches. I know I have to get back to working out and maybe running again. I felt much better when I kept it up. I admire teachers, they have to put up with a lot of stuff. Thank goodness for their dedication and love for the students. It wasn't too bad today a little cloudy and I think it is raining tonight. Hope everyone has a good weekend. Judy

Hi Rachel and Judy. Glad you've joined us Judy. :)

My update: http://www.gamesquad.com/forums/images/smilies2/nervous.gif I'm back up to 144.2 again. DH and I ate out twice last week....I had apple pie....and never recovered. I've been eating like a starved dog ever since. I'm so mad at myself for screwing up so badly. It's also PMS time...so my mood is crappy too. Anyway, I hope next week to have better news and be a happier me. I'm going to try keeping a journal this week...I hope it will keep me focused on staying on track. Having to write down what I'm doing and feeling and why. Be nice if it helps. I have to try something different to give myself hope of making changes this week. http://www.shadowspear.com/vb/images/smilies/zthinking.gif

Hello everyone! I haven't come here in ages and don't know why!!!!!! What a catch up I had and fun reading it al again.
Thanks for the caloric reminder..I knw I want to keep out of starvation mode. I do ketogenic metabolism so the calories aren't supposed to count but I have trouble keeping those up and the carbs low. I tend to not eat at all and am happy with that and that doesn't work at all :( I will try harder.
Thanks for asking about my daughter. She has uterine huge fibroids and her plumbing is getting updated! She has no kids and doesn't want any ( age 37) so this is perfect for her.
She is also on Atkins ( has a big 5 pounds to lose) so we'll maybe get this weight coming off there!
Have been walking now. DH promises to erect the home gym...that could be another 2 years coming LOL
Berry bushes have budded, and it looks like the baby Western Red cedar trees have made it through the winter. what a PIA they are!
You are all doing so well and give such great advice and insight...Thanks for helping :bhug:

Hello Ladies!!

Hope that you are all well.

I've been making an effort to get my weight to come down a bit as I'd like to be maintaining closer to 150 than to 160. It was hard to get my food down to a place where I could see loss but its finally happened after 2 solid weeks.

Yesterday I saw 154.2 ( was stuck at 155.6)and that made me very happy for 2 reasons. It ave me a -1.4 lb loss for the week and it put me at a total loss of 120 lbs...which is something that I could not say for the past 2 yrs since I reached my goal. :D

I wish you all a very good Sunday!
Oh! and if you are Irish or not....Happy St Patrick's Day!!

Hi All.. Here's my foods so far today:
100% egg protein drink... still had a sealed conatainer of carbo-lyte... w/1/4c Hc for breakfast
Lunch is 2 servings tilapia w/ butter and lemon juice
totals are:
fat 589;protein 72;carbs 2.0;cals 860.
So I need 63 more protein, and the calories will be plenty high to make everyone happy. I will try to be about 1200. I just can't make myself do more. The last time I went higher on the high fat, I felt awful and didn't lose.
The issue I am frustrated about is with veggies. The old atkins plan stressed then as a villain causing weight gains and stalls. Now it is very HIGH veggie carbs. They say that it is NEEDED to have weight loss. Then I read the success stories and they do the low to no veggies like I used to do. any ideas on this? To me, a carb is a carb and the fiber is a new gimmick to explain why you are allowed to eat more veggies ( likley to make the health nutritionists happier)... any advice?

likley to make the health nutritionists happier)... any advice?

hehehehe  ...no nutritionist here but I am a big fan of veggies and have used them all through my weight loss and maintenance. Mostly the induction types and a bit of starchy ones....I had a lovely salad last night with leftover wild salmon filet, mesclun greens, cucumber, hearts of palm, 1/2 plum tomato, kalamata olives.... all in a vinegarette. :yum:

I just had an omelet with onions and mushrooms and put some chili in it too. To me, life would be very boring without adding in lots of veggies in different ways.

Some asparagus would be nice with the tilapia, yes? I steam mine and eat it with some grape tomatoes in vinegarette dressing. :yum:

Well, I do have scallions in my omlettes, have olives and mushrooms too. also had a bunch of asparagus the night before last. With the newer atkins, they have 12-15 NET carbs of veggies. Next time you make yourself some veggeis, just check out how much that really is...HUGE! I can see a small salad or portion of stuff, but I used to have a hard time finding room for food other than the veggies! I steam my asparagus too and love them even raw. I think I will consider a small portion of veggies.... maybe... OY. I wonder how many have really lost weight with the major veggie intake.
Thanks for the input :)

I don't know how SB diet works. Is it a ketogenic diet too? Like atkins? I lost 190 pounds with very miniscule to no veggies.
I just see so many atkins people saying that they don't lose on this plan like they did on the other.OH well..
Had 12 stalks of asparagus steamed with butter and a nice portion of potted meat made in the crock pot.I was well under the 20 carbs and had about 1400 cal. I feel too full.
On the bright side, for the first time my keto stick was a deep 'moderate' color. a first! Also had a bit of HC in 2 jello snak paksized sf jellos.

Good job!! Asparagus is a natural diuretic so if you are retaining water, it'll help your body to get rid of it.

SB is not ketogenic.....it is a balanced low/controlled carb approach to weight loss and it has enabled me to learn how to eat in a way that works for my body. I don't have metaboliic issues but I am 57 yrs old so age is not on my side. I restrict grains and that seems to work for me even though the plan pushes them...I'm a rebel!! :p

I like to get full from my veggies as it helps me to not overeat on other calorie laden foods, even protein. I can overeat just about anything!! :o Just call me Miss Piggy!!

Thanks Judy and you are not a miss piggy! My metabolism alwasy was the problem was borderline for medications forever until atkins. ihad the weight off for 10 yrs and regained 70 when I moved here the first year.
My problem is that I rarely am hungry but I will eat bread in any form. I am so carb sensitive.I can't go near grains.Trigger food.
That is why I will make oopsiesonly once a month. Too close to bread stuff for me. It isn't the best thing to tease my brain!
And I'm turning 62 in August so I understand the added disadvantages :(

I think I lose better eating veggies. I was just in another friend's journal and she was saying how the different diets affect us differently. Some people complain of hair loss and dryness, other's that their skin and hair has never been better. So I think we have to really pay attention to find out what does work best for each of us. I know for sure eating 2000+ calories doesn't work well for me. I hope today I won't do that again. http://forums.wireplay.co.uk/images/smilies/peeg2.gif Judy I'm like you....I can overeat anything too. And during PMS....I generally do. http://ferskywalker.fotopages.com/images/smilies/shy.gif

Cricket! You look great!! I hope my skin looks half as good as yours does in 5 yrs.

On the bread thing...its a tough one as I too, am a flour abuser and have used it in the past to calm and numb myself. I now eat it once in a while as a treat, once a month acutally!! Its highly addictive! I also do not eat wheat. :nono:

Gala! You are still getting regular TOMs? I haven't had one in about 3 yrs now.

Hi folks. Galatia & Judy, last night I had that stemed asparagus, one small portion of meat. Today I weigh 2.6 pounds more! That is the sme thing that happened the lst time I had asparagus. The food isn't passing through at all. I will up my water and fats. See if that helps. Does the coconut oil really do something?
I'll be off this thing for a bit after tonight and don't know when I will be checking in on it. depends on my daughter's computer!
Be well everyone. Thanks for being here for me!!!
TY Judy... I am blessed with a younger look. Never had a pimple either! My kids are the same. my folks always looked much younger. My only advice is don't use chemicals on your face.

FYI- you really can't look at just your previous day's food to see why you gained on the scale. You need to look at the past 3-4 days.

If you do not take a fiber supplement, maybe you need to? I take psyllium fiber twice a day...it helps a lot!! :agree:

Judy, I had one missed period! In December....I got my hopes all up....but then in January it was back to being regular again. http://forum.lowcarber.org/images/icons/icon8.gif I know menopause is not desirable... I'm ready to get this part of life over with. Mostly on account of the tumor that I'm hoping goes with the onset of menopause.

O.K. Cricket...no chemicals....what do you use? You must answer this before you leave. ;) I hope you have a nice visit with your DD. And I hope everything goes really well, and she recovers quickly.

Judy, I use Psyllium Husks about every other day. Love it!

Hi gals:) I have used psyllium. didn't find it worked that well...am using the Benefiber which is so much nicer to use! amazing and it does work as afar as bulking goes... my problem isn't as much as UMMM.... consistency ( tactful?) as it is movement! If I have a big meal for breakfast I can get going but I feel awful when I do eat a lot. Today I had 2 mugs of coffee, 1 cup heavy cream between the coffe and scarmbled eggs and 2 tsp. fiber.... worked FAST. now I have heart burn from the coffee and feel so full from all the food. As for the menue, all I can say is that for 4 months I have eaten only atkins induction foods and have never gone over 20 carbs. I will give higher fats a serious go in Chicago. maybe my daughter will also get off the last few pounds with that too.
Skin care secrets??LMAO..are you really ready?
I don't use soap or detergents on my face and never did. I use warm water and a soft wash cloth gently... if grungy I use Cetaphil moisturizer..wipe on, rinse off, pat dry. That is it. I don't use sunblockers or screens. I drive a convertible and live in the South. I mow 25 acres and get dusty and grungy a lot in the growing months. and my really secret weapon is my genes!
My parents were both the babies of their families... they all lived inot the 100s on my dad's side. He went early from pneumonia 3 years ago at 98. They were married just shy of 73 years and my mom refused to live without him so she died 13 days later at age 96. They danced a few months prior!
And being happy sure don't hurt! :D

Hi everyone, well Happy St Pattys Day to you. I'm not Irish but at least I wore green today. Well as far as constipation is concerned, I have found, as long as I take my Magnesium supplement and vitamin c it seems to help.It needs to be at least 1000 mgs. When I first started this I had to take a stool softener to soften the stool, I don't seem to have to do that now. I thought I was going to be in for a rough time after I was taken off HRT. But I seem to have found the right combination of supplements to help with my hot flashes. I don't think anything helps night sweats though. :q:  Is anyone going to do anything special for Easter? We have a sunrise service then breakfast at church. Then one of the girls plans to have dinner, they just cannot decide who(LOL). Well the weather was interesting today. This morning was cold and wet, and this afternoon was sunny and wet. Hope everyone has a great evening. Judy

Hi all, I haven't been around much lately. Probably because I fell off the wagon and have been in denial and ridden with guilt. I don't know why but I only gained one pound during my sugarholic binge.
What happened is that devil in my head said to me "You have done so well for so long you deserve a reward. One candy bar isn't going to hurt." In less than a week I had a stash of 4 dark chocolate Milky Way bars and 2 Butterfinger bars in my nightstand draw. Talk about an addict!!!
When I realized I was totally out of control, I threw it all in the garbage and went cold turkey. Thank God I am now back on track.

Good morning!

I am55. That's a milestone here. It means I can get senior discounts when shopping or renting---as long as I can prove I'm 55. But how nice to have someone demand proof of age---it means ya don't look it!

I love this whole low carb forum---in addition to the over-50's. I have learned so much from everyone!

I live in Tucson. May is a gorgeous month here: sunny, breezy, temps in the mid-to-upper 80's (a dry heat.) Everything is blooming now. Beautiful!

I have 2 furry children: A midget kitty not quite 1 year old and a behemoth cat about 9 years old. One weighs maybe 9-1/2 pounds, the other almost twice that.

Low carbing has helped me change my eating for health reasons---I learned on these forums and on links provided by our terriffic forum members all about hypothyroidism (common in women over 50) and about foods to eat/avoid in general if one wishes to stay healthy. Currently, eating a lot more dietary fat seems to be helping! The right kinds of fat: Virgin coconut oil, olive oil, butter, and fats from meats, fish, poultry.

I hope you are having a pleasant day wherever you are.
Best regards to all---stay in touch!

Good job on getting yourself back on track Patrice!!

FWIW, I now enjoy a small amount of 85% dark chocolate in the evenings. I feel that having a low sugar sweet treat does keep away the cravings for the crappy but yummy sweet that you ended up eating.

I am staying on my induction plan good so far. This is day five on it.
I did have a bad upset stomach for a couple of days but am better today. Don';t know if its the change in my diet or what .
Did it do that to you when you first began?
I am strickly following induction and eating only what is on its list. I have it taped to my fridge so I can see it everyday so I won't eat something I am not suppose to eat.
I have been eating alot of salads so that may be what is tear up my stomach, the lettuce I mean.
I am sure I am following induction right.
