I'm pretty new to SBD...so I'm still trying to learn a few things. Although I have printed out the food lists (from pg 41) for p1 & p2 and a few recipes and put them all in a folder...so that has made it easier to refer back to when I'm not sure if I can having something specific.
Is there a specific amount of weight...that's commonly lost during P1? 5-10lbs etc? I'm only on day 6, and lost 2 lbs. So I'm not sure if I'm doing something that's slowing my weight loss down...or if I'm actually doing it correctly. Or perhaps I'm simply being dramatic. LOL!
How do you find motivation to get up and exercise? This has always been my biggest struggle...I do get up and walk around, park further back in parking lots so I have to walk more etc...but I really have an issue while at the house simply EXERCISING! Quite frankly, I hate it. :help:

We can expect to lose 10% of our total loss in phase I.....
Just getting up to go for a walk is what some start out with...any is better than none.

I'm a slow loser, so I won't be of much help with how much you're supposed to lose! Any bit that you DO lose though is a step in the right direction and slow isn't necessarily bad either. I uinderstand your dilemna about the exercise. If I would just stay home and tell myself that I'll do it, very rarely does it get done. It requires alot of strength on my part to do it, however, if I make it a point to have to leave the house, then I will be more apt to do it. So every morning, I get on my exercise clothing, drop my daughter off at school and then head to the mall to do mall-walking. In the spring, I drop her off at school and take the dogs to the dog park and walk there. If I don't think about it too much, I'm more likely to do it. I can be the queen of excuses, so I make sure I don't talk myself out of it. The other thing is doing something with someone else. My friend and I started taking Tai Chi. I'm more likely to go if I know someone else is relying on me. Hope that helps you somewhat! Oh and welcome to the Beach!

I have avioded exercise before, and being home I make all kinds of excuses. Now that I've started SB I tell myself that weight loss will be quicker if I exercise and burn off more fat, that keeps me going, also it's such a great stress relief! Once you exercise for the first week or two, it will become habit and you'll enjoy it. I do some aerobic tapes, I've been through a few and found one I enjoy doing. There are about 6 sessions all around 20 mins each so if I'm feeling a bit lazy I'll do one session, If I'm really motivated I do 2 or 3 sessions.....one thing for sure, afterwards I feel soooooo great!

I joined a gym. Knowing im PAYING money to go somewhere to workout... motivates me! :) Plus they offer lots of different classes. I'm a social exerciser... so I really enjoy those. AND there is a pool and hot tub.... love that!

The most important thing to remember about exercise is that you have to find something that you really enjoy or you won't stick with it. I find a treadmill unbelievably boring! I would never last longer than 10 minutes. Walking outside on our local creek trail? I can go hours! It's so beautiful, birds and wildlife and it's more like a meditation for me....I started walking it every day for an hour about 6 years ago more for my stress level and mental health than exercise per se and for the last 2 years I've been jog/walking. I solve the world's problems when I'm out there! I prefer to work out like that, alone, rather than gym classes, etc. YMMV :)
Also, I use my iPhone (or iPod) and subscribe to podcasts on iTunes and listen to those while I'm working out. I particularly like politics and news so I listen to 60 Minutes, Meet the Press, Olbermann, etc. while my husband is more of a music guy while he's working out. Branch out and investigate. Before you know it you've exercised for 30-60 minutes without noticing the time go by.
My husband and I try a couple of times a month to go on a longer hike, say 3-4 hours, and get a really good workout. We talk about our dreams, plans for life, etc. You can bring a picnic. I can't wait to do this after day 14 so I can bring a little bottle of wine :)

I lost about 7 my first week, but a healthy weight is 1-2 lbs per week, so don't worry if it's not as fast as others.
