I am detoxing pretty bad. I am not ill, but I'm having very bad cravings. I used to drink 4 Pepsis a day, so you can imagine what kind of sugar withdrawal I am going through.

I'm even DREAMING of chocolate. I NEVER crave chocolate, I am a salt person, but all of a sudden every dream I am about to eat forbidden food. DARN YOU DREAMS!!!

I just was hoping to hear some peoples stories of their detox experience. I am drinking tons of green tea so it is helping the detox process, I think.

Hello Synne,

I didn't really experience much "detox" - but I sometimes experience cravings when I'm hungry or PMS-y.

re: giving up Pepsi - have you considered trying Diet Pepsi instead? Maybe it's not just the sugar, but the caffeine?

Chocolate? Maybe try making your own sugar-free Cocoa w/ skim milk? There's also a Phase 1 dessert that some recommend in the SBD book - I think it's skim milk ricotta w/ cocoa powder and fake sugar.

The way to make this work is to make it enjoyable for yourself. If you're hungry, EAT! If you want some choco-yummies - have some "legal" ones.

It's not supposed to be hard - go easy on yourself.

From the food lists on pg. 41 of the South Beach Babes thread

SWEET TREATS
(Limit to 75 calories per day)

Sweet treats are items that contain sugar alcohols, such as:
Candies, hard, sugar-free
Chocolate powder, no-added-sugar
Cocoa powder, baking type
Fudgsicles, no sugar added
Gelatin, sugar-free
Gum, sugar-free
Jams and jellies, sugar-free
Popsicles, sugar-free
Syrups, sugar-free
Some Sugar Free Products may be made with sugar alcohols (isomalt, lactitol, mannitol, sorbitol or xylitol) and are permitted on the SBD. They may have associated side effects of GI distress (abdominal pain, diarrhea & gas) if consumed in excessive amounts.

BEVERAGES

Decaf Coffee and Tea
Diet, decaffeinated, sugar-free sodas and drinks
Herbal teas (peppermint, chamomile, etc.)
Milk (1% or fat-free) and soymilk (low-fat plain). See MILK/DAIRY.
Sugar-free powdered drink mixes
Vegetable Juice
Note: caffeinated coffee or diet sodas with caffeine added are allowed, but limited to 1 - 2 servings per day.

There are plenty of on-plan options if you are wanting something sweet. As for the sodas, like HK, I think it may be more of a caffeine issue and not sugar. Perhaps adding a diet version of your soda will help and over time you can eliminate them completely if you wish.
HTH :)

Just wanted to wish you the best getting thru this stuff time.
You have lots of info from everyone else.

The first 3 weeks were hard for me too.
You can do this, just take it one day at a time. And try some of the diet soda's too. I'm sure its a combo of sugar and caffiene withdrawl.

Hope today is better.

The Popsicle brand no sugar added fudgesicles are great for chocolate cravings. I wouldn't have made it without them.

Seriously consider this.. ANY soft drink users out there.. if you SWITCH to NO CAFFEINE, the strangest things happen (well once the withdrawl go away) is that you do not want the pop any more! It's ture! :agree:

I had horrible withdrawal that last 3 weeks!! I was really, really sick!!

I had been eating soooo poorly for so long that my poor bady just crashed when I took all the crap out of it. I kept eating fruit during my phase I, thinking it's help but it only prolonged my agony.

I finally did 2 weeks without any fruit...got it right and moved on.

It will get better...but you do need to not drink any soda with sugar in it. Have you tried Coke Zero?

I just started SB. Never been on a diet before, never needed to. But I had a hysterectomy last year, and even though I work out daily, I gained 25 lbs! My husband said he didn't even notice. Huh?!

Thankfully I have no sweet tooth but carbs are my downfall. Pasta and bread would be my last meal on death row! But so far, Day 2, I'm fine. Knowing I'll be able to eat them sparingly in the future makes it doable...

Now, what's the hardest part of this regimen? WINE! I'm a huge WINO! We own a restaurant and we have hundreds of bottles screaming my name!

I can't remember having dinner without a glass of wine.
But I haven't had any in 3 days so I think I'm over the hump.

Glad to have found this board :)

(Also, I found Fitday.com to catalog all foods, exercise and goals...and it's fantastic!)

I've been drinking a coffee a day and some green tea, so I know I've been getting caffeine. It's just the lack of anything sweet. All I have sweet is Jello. And sometimes it just doenst cut it!

I am going to go buy some of those Fudgsicles. I went shopping last week and just didnt think of it. It's hard to run to the store sometimes, but this weekend, I will get some.

I've been a Coke addict for a long time, this has just been really hard!! I'm gonna keep trying to live without Diet Coke because I truly do believe it is junk and I'm trying to start living healthy. Not that I think there is anything wrong with people drinking it, I'm just gonna TRY not to lol.

Thanks guys. :)

Oh I went into the pop thing in more detail in my journal.

I associate pop with junk, because I used to wash down my chips and crackers with Pepsi. I do NOT want to risk that temptation,if that makes any sense??

ALso, my teeth are way too yellow for my age. Bad me!

Who knows though, I will continue to do research on diet pop, and maybe I will start having some in the future. But right now, I am doing okay!!

Ok, this is weird. I have no sweet tooth, never have. But since starting this regimen and cutting out wine I had my first sweet craving! Weird. Maybe wine for me filled the sugar role that chocolate and sweets do for others.

Anyway, my doctor diagnosed me with IBS after my surgery last year. So I'm having some challenges reconciling IBS diet (soluble fibers like white rice, sourdough bread, etc. which are easy on the gut) and the SB way but so far so good. Anyone else have IBS?

So I started last Wednesday. Didn't weigh myself until today (something I never used to do, usually just went by clothes fitting,e tc.) and....drumroll.....I've lost 4 lbs in 5 days!

Talk about motivating! I know what the biggest change is. It's not sugar, nor carbs. It's wine! So I'm now going to be vigilant, after Phase One is over and I start to re-introduce, that I will be more careful about my wine intake. (We own a restaurant and my family's in the wine biz so harder than for most people I guess but I'm feeling so good and in control now that I'm sure I can stick with it:) Thought I'd share with other first-timers...
