I am new to SBD and was looking for the sbd official food list. can't find it on pg. 41.
Also, i read the book, and still have a hard time knowing if a food i'm eating is acceptable. what are the main things i should be looking at on the nutritional facts at the grocery store.
also does anyone have any tips when eating out. i was at a restaraunt this weekend and had trouble finding anything that might be acceptable.

Judy should be able to direct you to the lists which are invaluable. I am sure she will post shortly.
I wouldn't worry about the nutritional labels as you should be eating veggies and lean meats mostly especially in Phase 1.
I stick with salads when I eat out or I eat some type of protein (salmon if they have it) and veggies. Even if it is not on the menu I will ask them to make me a plate with chicken or fish and veggies.
Salads are always a safe bet ... i cut anything that isn't SBD friendly (like croutons) and ask for olive/vinegar as the dressing.

thanks,
i guess i just don't understand the difference between good fats and bad fats, good carbs bad carbs.
with atkins it was a lot easier for me because all i was looking at was carb intake. i just would like to get a better understanding of what i should be looking to avoid from the labels.

Gill, have a look at page 41 of the South Beach Babes thread. There you will find a list of foods for all phases as well as meal plan guides to go along with them. HTH

They are there! I initially had a hard time finding them. Just go to the south beach babes thread and there're on pg. 41. You need to scroll a ways down. Hope this helped. Julie

Hi there:
I just finished doing Phase I, again, after Christmas .... so I'm kind of a newby. Judy is awesome and has great knowledge, she is even on the South Beach Diet official web site as a "success story" ....
http://southbeachdiet.com/sbd/publicsite/index.aspx
I found that reading the paperback South Diet Beach book through a couple of times and keeping it out on my dining room table for quick reference for the first two weeks really helped to get it all straight in my head .... it's easy to miss stuff the first read through.
I don't need to read the nutritional stuff in the grocery store because I'm not really buying anything except low fat dairy, eggs, lean protein, Wasa rye crisp bread (now I'm in Phase II), and veggies, I buy smoked oysters and tuna but nothing to really check on those, same with legumes/beans/lentils/split peas ...... I make my own hummus - it's great on the crispbread! I try to just remember "KISS", keep it simple. :yum:
In Phase I - my goal was to eliminate rice, potatoes, pasta, sweet potatoe, bread, etc., all the "high glycemic" foods that Dr. Agatston talks about .... for two weeks.
Then in Phase II my goal was to add back my steel cut oats with blueberries for breakfast, but always with some protein now, and then a while after that I added back an apple in the afteroon, but always with peanut butter now, and I've added the Wasa crispbread which is great with hummus or low fat cheese or avacado and tomatoe - yum!.
I find eating out is really great on South Beach .... I just opt for lots of veggies (I'll order a double portion), lean proteins, soups (as long as there is no pasta, potatoe, or rice in the soup), salads with oil and vinegar dressings (most restaurants have that), some salads even have chicken or prawns with garlic etc., which is great. Even breakfast .... great omlettes can be concocted, or I ask for poached or scrambled eggs, with tomatoes, mushrooms, and sometimes lean back bacon - yumm!
Ok, I'm off to make my seafood chowder with my homemade turkey broth, and shrimp, scallops, and halibut .... mmmmm
Good luck with everything SB - I love it and find it soooo easy now!! :agree:

When you see the thread on the board, click "last page", that will take you to page 45 (the current last page), look for the page numbers along the bottom or top and you will see page 41. HTH
