I always like reading everyones cholesterol results, so I thought I would share mine for those out there, like me, who are interested in the effects of low carb on cholesterol.

In Dec 2006 at 330 lbs. My HDL was 42, TRG- 162, Total - 184, LDL (calc) - 110.

Started low carb Jan 18, 2007

Jan 2008 at 215 lbs. My HDL is now 68, TRG - 64, Total - 182, LDL (calc) - 101.

What do you think. I was pretty happy. I guess I would like to see LDL go down but my ratios are very good, so not going to worry about it. I thought LDL was the one easiest to improve.

I do not take any cholesterol lowering drugs, my improved numbers are all from dropping weight/changing my way of eating.

Congrats on the wonderful improvement in those numbers! Look at that HDL and triglicerides - fabulous. You might want to read this interesting article by Dr. Mary Eades about cholesterol - among other things she mentions the 'light, fluffy' particles of LDL as being the safer kind to have. There are 2 kinds of LDL particles, the bigger fluffy ones and the smaller dense ones (the bad kind) and now there is a simple test for that, it is called an ApoB, no fasting required either. If you Google the keywords 'Fluffy LDL' you will get a bunch of articles explaining this. If your LDL is the fluffy kind, you are gold here!
