What is your favorite name brand SBD food(s)? I think it would help some of the new folks with the hours it takes in the beginning to shop.

Do you mean the SBD or I guess now the SBL branded products themselves? I've never eaten one and don't ever plan to! I think they are hogwash in terms of learning to eat properly and healthfully.

My favorite SB foods generally are not branded at all. A nice piece of grilled fish with sauteed or roasted asparagus and some quinoa or sweet potato is pretty awesome. Homemade chicken and black bean chili and a salad on a cold day, steel cut oats for brekkie with fresh berries, nuts, cinnamon, and a dash of agave nectar warms me from the inside out! Fresh fruit in general and dried organic turkish apricots are like candy now. These are a few of my favorite things and then I don't feel sooo bad....

Products we use regularly and enjoy:

Drew's Natural salad dressings (those that are within guidelines)
Green Mountain Gringo salsas
Classico spagetti sauces (ones without added sugars only)
Kuner's no salt added black beans
Bob's Redmill organic golden flaxmeal
Uncle Sam's cereal
Barbara's Grainshop cereal (not technically SB friendly with corn flakes in it, but it is very yummy!)
Lifestream whole wheat pastas with flax
Kroger 100% whole wheat pastas (rotini and penne)
Lundberg's wild/brown mix rice (forget the specific name)
Ancient Harvest Inca Red quinoa (use generic bulk quinoa for plain)
Hodgson Mills whole wheat couscous with flax (several flavors as well as plain)
No Sugar Added Fudgesicles (Popsicle brand)
Chocalatour single origin vintage dark chocolate (2005 Dominican Republic 70% is a personal favorite)
Endangered Species dark chocolate (ones with cacoa nibs or espresso beans again are personal favorites)

I found it interesting in looking at the list that almost all the branded things we use tend to be in the grains category, but I think that makes sense since proteins, fruits, veggies and so forth don't come that way fresh and we try to limit manufactured food products to the extent we can. I think it skews it a bit since they are such a big part of the list, but a small part of what we actually eat.

I agree, while only in phase 1 this time, when i did SBD before, i steered as far away from packaged foods as i could. If you look at the ingredients of some of the "branded" south beach items, many of them contain BIG NO NOS (wheat? sugar? hello???)

The one prepackaged thing i do use "frequently" and like to have on hand is the Low Carb Slimfast shakes (similar to the atkins ones, only much cheaper!) I keep a case of those that i get at SAMS club in our basement fridge (that we keep really cold, not "quite freezing" ) These are GREAT for the days i simply don't have/make time to make a "traditional sb breakfast" I also keep a couple of them at work, in the fridge, "just in case".

I do like the list of food above, though, so when i get there, I'll know what to look for... thanks! :) Again though IF the packaged, branded SB foods work for you... more power to you. I just know that is a "slippery slope" for me.

I could only think of a few but here goes:

Newman's Own Salad dressing, especially the light italian (6 grams of fat, 0 carbs)
Good Seasons Italian dressing
Hellmans light mayonaise
Carolina brown rice
Dannon light and fit yogurt
Quaker Steel Cut Oats
Jello sugarfree pudding mix
V8

I think most of the other things I buy are fresh ingredients.

Main things I can think of...

- Colavita Olive oil
- Colavita Balsamic vinegar
- S&W Garbanzo Beans (canned)
- DairyFarm cottage cheese
- Nespray powdered milk (for making yoghurt)

Other stuff - I don't buy any one brand - just whatever's cheapest or best.

Hours to shop? Oh, my.... if it had taken me hours to shop for SB friendly foods I would have never climbed on the wagon!
Sticking to fresh veggies, leans meats, dairy, beans/legumes and fresh fruit (P2/3) makes it VERY quick and easy to shop.

it took me a long time to shop AT first.... but now i have it down pat. I still have to go to various places but it's not as bad.

I don't have any brands that are necessarily something specific to SBD.

I make out a shopping list each week in a spreadsheet as I go through the online weekly special flyers and always do my veggies and meats first since they make up the bulk of my weekly eating.

Grains are a secondary thought ... I buy those at the whole foods market and they are mostly for my family than me.
