I am looking for a good dark chocolate that I can have as a treat. I'm diabetic so need to eat low carb (like everyone here for one reason or another!). I follow Bernsteins low carb - but would like to have a good dark chocolate. I've tried a few but they seem to give me headaches. Any suggestions?

I use Lindt 85% cocoa bar...
There is 4 grams of carb per 4 largish pieces, I believe....
I find it a little too "dark" to eat on it's own...(since I prefer milk chocolate)...but I do add it to hot chocolate!

after a while Lindt 85% tastes really sweet... it's an acquired taste i guess.
i used to be a full on chocoholic, but now... I don't care about it and I NEVER crave it anymore. This is amazing to me.

Sugar free chocolates do not appeal to you?

Lindt 85% is the lowest carb bar that I know of. However, if everything so far has given you a headache it could be you just can't tolerate dark chocolate, be it the caffeine or vanilla flavor or whatever else is in those things. Listen to your body. You want it to feel well.

I have the ChocoPerfection bars in the house, but don't eat them that often. I also have few cravings now that I'm off sugar. I guess it wasn't the chocolate I craved as much as it was the sugar!
Curiously, with the ChocoPerfection bars I prefer the dark, even though I've always been a milk chocolate fan.

Forgot to mention...if sugar alcohols don't bother you (I'm one of the lucky ones)...the Ross Chocolates are very good quality with an excellent "mouth feel" to them.

Thank you for the suggestions. The sugar free don't agree with me. I did try the Lindt brand but didn't care for it. I will keep trying different brands. I haven't heard of Chocoperfection - will google it. Thanks all.

BTW: If you're avoiding gluten, don't eat Lindt. They recently said they use barley malt in their chocolate. Which is odd because it isn't on the label.

I make my own with coconut oil.
1 cup virgin coconut oil (the good quality kind - it should smell like coconut, it should not be odorless - try Nutiva)
6 T unsweetened special dark cocoa powder
2 caps vanilla
5 or 6 packets of splenda, or sweetener of choice
melt CO in microwave, about 30-50 seconds
Add all other ingredients, stir well.
Pour into a silicone or lined square cake pan
Freeze or refrigerate until hardened.
Cut into 16 squares.
Keep refrigerated.
Each square will be about 1 T CO oil, 120 calories, and about 1/2g carb.
Delicious, no sugar alcohols, gluten, grains or mystery ingredients, and CO is very good for you.

I know that the Lindt truffle bars list barley malt, but I thought that the Lindt 70 and 85% were okay and gf. Any official word on this? I'd be so bummed if I can't have regular lindt. :(

Yeah, someone at glutenfreeandbeyond.com wrote to them and that's what they told us. They wouldn't answer any further inquiries about it. I asked them why they didn't put it on the label and they didn't reply. Probably scared the chocolate out of them.
