I've been making tofu pizza over the past couple of weeks and then it hit me - CHIPS.

Buy buy firm or extra firm (watch out b/c some of the extra firm has more carbs, perplexing, I know). Slice it up really thin and then fry in oil (then don't have to submerged, but have the pan coated at the bottom w/ oil). Fry until crispy. Add what ever seasoning you like...I just used salt and dipped in some dip...I mean can I tell you how amazing it is. I wondering why I haven't run into these somewhere...

The whole package of tofu has 5-6ish carbs and I ate the whole thing, oil has nada. Just watch out for the dips and you're good to go.

 I can't wait to try this out - I've been staring at my extra firm tofu for a week wondering what I want to do with it. The funny thing is I have some super yummy spinach dip sitting right on top of it.

Heaven. :exclm:

This may be a dumb question... But I have never tried tofu before, and was wondering could anyone describe what it taste like?

JoLynn..it doesn't really have much flavour...the dips take care of that!! I ate a whole package the other day and this is a girl that would never touch tofu before...but I was craving something crunchy and man it was good!

There is no overpowering flavour of any type...my advice be brave and go for it..I liked them best when they came right out of the frying pan...I had a couple left over and when they got really cold they were sooo crunchy..so my advice is to make and then eat soon after... BE BRAVE!! I did it...so can you :)

I am a chip munchy person. One thing I missed the most.... But I treid this...AWSOME.
I made just one serving... and I split them into 3 piles.. One with goya abodo with pepper(taste like fritos), One with sour cream flavor season,, and one with cheese season. I thought the cheese in microwave tasted like cheese nips..... THESE taste like the real thing and low cal...90,, and extremly low carb. 3 g..... Cant beat that !!!!!!
I got the season in the popcorn isle at a large supermart. Only need a very liitle amount of season and shake in a bowl and you are ready to go.
One serving makes amost a whole cup if you slice it thin.Thinner the better!!!
This really helped me out.. I am so glad I found this recipe. I really ,, really cant bring myself to eat a pork rind( smell puts me off)...SO I thought I would never taste a chip again !!!!! THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

.................did it for dinner tonight - was so yummy !
...I think you must find the right tofu for that...the one that looks like dry and has this smoky color on the sides (but still fresh)...says 4 carb all..............even the my high-carb men around me :-)....liked it !

..................Thank you Erin for this wonderful idea !!!

Since my last post on 6/12, i've made these chips 2 times. i fried each batch in different time lengths.

The longer I fried them in the oil, the crisper they got. I liked that.

And i made some kick ass salsa..

This is a great alternative to pork rinds.

Thanks.

I see this is an old thread, but hopefully someone will know the answer. Can these "chips" be made in a deep fryer? They sound so good! :agree:

Update: yes, they can! I tried some last night, very tasty. It'll take some tweaking for me to know how best to do them that way, but the important thing for me is knowing that I can do them that way! :yum:
